Members Richard
In case any of you missed this in the press... English cyclist Steve Abraham is trying to break the record for most miles covered in one year. The current record - 75,065 miles - was set by Tommy Godwin in 1939. Steve Abraham started his attempt on the 1st of January. He's been doing 12-hour days in the saddle, riding out of Milton Keynes. The temperature down there today was about 8 degrees, with sleet and heavy rain at times. Rather him than me! 2023 Subscriptions Ramsay Posted January 8, 2015 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted January 8, 2015 Phenomenal effort if he can do it, as Tommy Goodwin was an absolute legend. If I remember, he also set the fastest 100,000miles.
Members Richard
That's right - after 500 days of riding. If you've been logging your miles on Strava or Garmin, you'll get a sense of the numbers involved here. I barely managed 6,000 miles last year. Some of you will have got into five figures, I dare say. 75,000 miles in a year is mind blowing. Ramsay
2023 Subscriptions thejanullrichdietplan Posted January 8, 2015 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted January 8, 2015 My biggest month last year was 1062 in July, he's way beyond that already in just 8 days.

Mark O
Apparently there are a couple of rival attempts about to start in the USA. Bonkers the lot of them but chapeau to them nonetheless.
Ironman
All I assume he will be riding fixed to, met him a few times at the 24hr event we were riding and longer audax event I would put my money on him for doing it. If I am right he did pbp in 2007 on a triplex with two other Brits Campbell
2023 Subscriptions Ramsay Posted January 9, 2015 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted January 9, 2015 Had a quick look at his website and Strava. There is actually someone at the moment that has done more miles than him so far this year on Strava, although his plan is to build up miles as the weather/daylight increases. My good years used to be about 6500miles!! Good luck to him.
2023 Subscriptions Ramsay Posted April 13, 2015 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted April 13, 2015 Not been online much lately, but really sorry to see that Steve Abrahams was knocked off his bike by a moped and has badly broken his ankle. He is hoping to try and keep going somehow, but...... An American guy Kurt Searvogle is giving the same record a really good bash at the moment. 19k miles and counting. He is hoping to try and keep going somehow, but...... From what I can gather from Abraham's website and Twitter, he was hoping to use a recumbent trike in a traffic-free environment (one-legged!) to limit his losses while the ankle healed. But as there haven't been any Strava updates since the 29th March, I suspect he's decided it's better to rest and recuperate. At the time of the crash, Abraham was more of less level with Searvogel in mileage terms. However, he'd completed nearly twice as much climbing and all his miles were racked up during a British winter. Miles accumulated in the Florida sunshine are easy miles in comparison!
