  1. Hi All

With the current fun times that is a COVID pandemic , the February camp will obviously not take place , so with the likelihood of travel restrictions being lifted in the spring , I am planning to go over to Spain October / November. Think what a bounce a Sunny block of endurance miles will do before the onset of winter. The temperature in Spain October/ November is pleasant to warm . Anyway if anybody else is thinking about it it would be good to get a decent group , at the moment I think my gaff may be full , but that will depend on when dates are fixed, which obviously depends on travel restrictions being lifted .

Thanks guys...reading through made me a wee bit teary eyed but in a good way. It all really depends on how I respond to treatment and the dreaded covid but would be good to meet up sometime for a run/beer we will see how it goes.

    All the best.

    Only if

    1 your buying

2 None of that daft Belgian dark beer pish

  3. Hi Davie

You have always been a combative, argumentative b#### so I am hundred percent certain that you will fight your cancer and continue to live your life, As for gravel bikes it’s either a CX bike with bottle cages or it’s a touring bike with nobly tiers

We did a few years ago, when you took it on, and it was very successful in terms of numbers. This year, I have no confidence that the events will be permitted, even in July, plus we kind of missed the boat in getting on the CTT calendar. Maybe for 2022, when things will be more like normal.

    Alan

These don’t need to be listed, it’s the lowest tier of events , it’s really just giving Testers a time , you can do it as turn up and ride

  5. Hi Alan

Why don’t you run your two 25 TT as a CTT event , that way you might get some riders to take part and possibly encourage your club members to take part, secondly if ran as CTT local event you won’t need any more Marshall’s as you have or need for a confined , and last plus you might even be able to make some pennies for your club, plus you would get kudos from local testers like me

  6. Though I am not a member surely the course of action to take in these circumstances is to lobby SC and complain or to get them to justify why this change has taken place, there is no additional risk in either catching or spreading Covid if you cycle through another local authority area, we have to remember that SC are there to act for us not the other way round .

  7. Robbie it would depend on distance they want to cycle , but down the west to the border is a nice ride after that it’s fairly busy whichever way you go , the best route I did to London was from Edinburg to Stranraer , Belfast to Dublin , Anglesey to Aberystwyth, Aberystwyth to Cardiff to Swindon, then Swindon to Reading, Reading to London. The two legs in Wales were a bit lumpy so was the start of Belfast Dublin but the rest was fairly flat . The London bit was scary far too much traffic and totally mental

Tough one -  my first time up it and the climb is relentless. The downhill race was fun, Billy with the win. Think he just pipped me at the line

Think you actually crossed the line first  as I was definitely second; there was a second line 20m up the road that I crossed  first which changed the order , that was a long time at 3wkg 90 odd minutes

  9. Firstly your cleats , these will wear out depending on how much walking you do on them, generally they can last a long time if you limit the amount of walking , however some maintenance on your cleats help prolong their life, and help better retention , on the front edge of the cleat it’s good practice to take any feather edges off with a file .

The pedal body you are using although not as good as Look it’s used by a number of pedal based power meters so not all that bad.

Noises well these can be from your pedal bearings , either worn or dry, cleat bolts , pedal threads and maybe too much float, what colour cleat do you use

When I came back to cycling the thoughts were have a lot of float so you don’t get sore knees, so I used red cleats max float, however I found too much float hurts my knees so now ride medium float grey cleats or zero float black cleats , however I clean and lube my pedals every three months .

Would I change to shimano no not if I am happy with what I am using

  10. We as in myself George and Mr Gunn

may have a vacancy in casa MacD for Spain 21 , however you have to pass three  tests

Test 1 You have to have sufficient funds to buy us drink

Test 2 You have to come out on the same Day ( Likely Thursday early morning from Glasgow) you can return when you want

Test 3 You have to be able to eat a full English prior to the ride

Applications to be made prior to October so that the vetting can be completed before December

    Now full again Sorry

  11. Been looking at flights so starting with glasgow

Easy Jet Saturday to Saturday departs 1225 Glasgow & 1705 Alicante £ 92

Easy Jet Thursday to Thursday departs 0610 Glasgow & 1050 Alicante £88

No Friday flight out or back with Easy Jet

    Jet 2 Saturday Saturday 1445 Glasgow & Friday 1615  Alicante £155

    Jet 2 Thursday  Friday 1100  Glasgow Thursday & Friday Alicante 1615  £148

    Prestwick Cheapest Ryanair

Friday 0620 Friday Return 1050 £78 or £84 if you return on Saturday

    Mixed Flights

Prestwick out early Friday £52 return Jet 2 Friday 67 £119

wife’s birthday on Saturday so I need to be back for it so likely going Friday to Friday , there is a Jet 2 flight on Thursday afternoon as well ,

The cost of a  shared taxi Would not be that much for the flights from prestwick

Best value for week taking a bike is Jet 2

Saturday 06:25 Depart Saturday Return 11:40 £162 including bike think this might be the preferred option

  12. Just a note Easy Jet have not listed the Friday flight , only Thursday early morning or Saturday, however Ryanair have an early morning Friday flight at 0645

Plus put a post up if you are coming and the days you want to go for, it makes it easier for travel and accommodation planning

  13. Providing travel to Spain is permitted the dates for this is from Friday 26 through to the weekend 5th March

I am planning on going out Friday to Friday , Speaking to Richie he is likely to stay to the Sunday . We’re thinking of including a trip into the mountains up towards Denia . If you are interested post last year there was a good sized bunch out which made it very enjoyable .

Most rides are between 60/80 miles and include one or two short hills , the majority of the riding is on flat roads , so you can wheel suck all the way home if you want or need to. It would be good to get a big group out weather has been good the last few years . I think my gaff is full so yous will need another flat or flats
