  1. Thanks for showing me the ropes, hope i didnt do anything too daft. Enjoyable and painful in equal measures. The wee hill after the lights at Bridge of Weir had me dropped - i've riden it a few times before and never really thought it as a hill - different story with legs burning and trying to get back on the bunch!
  2. Dont think so, not sure what club There was no D group this week - much to my alarm when signing in It was 10 lap scratch, 30 lap scratch, 40 lap points and 40 lap scratch.
  3. No D last night so i was in with the C. Think i got 2nd or 3rd in the points so pretty pleased with that. Didnt really do anything in the scratch races apart from a daft breakaway which sort of happened by accident rather than intention! Final scratch race was a bit heated after a few laps when there was nearly a crash and someone started arguing with a young rider from Falkirk (I know shouting is part of racing but the boy didnt do anything wrong and it was the guy doing the shouting who was at fault)...rather than start arguing back he attacked and lapped us all, right way to go about it! Wish i had the legs to do that
  4. Might be able to make this depending on finishing work in time. However if anyone is reluctant to have someone doing their first wheelers ride in the chain gang i'll understand and not bother. Or i suppose i could ride at the back behind everyone to keep out the way (a cunning excuse for some wheel sucking) I know this is different to what it would be like on a weekend club ride so when i'm dropped i'm dropped etc.
  5. Actually on closer inspection of the map i think it goes down Gibson street rather than up it!
  6. The courses were announced today for the events in June - 20th for the TT and 23rd for the road race The city centre circuit isn't a surprise but now the roads are known - Think Gibson Street could be the best bit for viewing, its not a huge hill but think the atmosphere there could be pretty good. The time trial course starting and finishing in Stewarton is a bit out of left field. For more details http://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/events/NRRC/Courses/Pages/Courses.aspx
  7. I think L4 accreditation is needed for the DST slots too. At least this was the case when they started it may be different now,
  8. I had thought about it but im a bit wary - i didnt do any sprint events in the accreditation nor have i been to the DST sprint nights so i feel a bit out my depth. I cant even do the basic stuff like track stands! btw was speaking to Kevin Stewart the other day he was saying it the events are going to be dependent on the numbers. If alot enter then it will likely be some Keirins, if the numbers are fewer then other events.
  9. short sleeve full zip - large unsure about the shorts. Is it considered bad to wear normal black shorts rather than club shorts? i've not really got on with endura shorts in the past.
  10. It was a black and white one...i was the fat guy with a blue and white moda bike
  11. Enjoyed tonight, i virtually lost my voice after the first D scratch race after getting a coughing fit afterwards so was too embarrassed to come over to the wheelers corner and introduce myself with little more than a squeek! Not sure where i was in the 1st race, i got a bit nervous with a rider in front so dropped back, then tried a bit too hard to get back in position and didnt have anything left for when it mattered. The devil was better managed a 2nd in that, then the points i was pretty useless. Final scratch was a bit better tried an attack but it was pretty pathetic and probably shouldnt be called an attack as didnt do anything other than string things out a bit! Anyway got another 2nd with that so pretty pleased overall.
  12. I'll have a lockring remover and a chainwhip in my bag you can use
  13. Bit the bullet and I've entered for the first time - anyone doing the D will be happy they wont finish last. I didnt put in a club in the sign up form, thought it would be a bit cheeky to do that when i've not managed to go on a club ride yet. Anyway i'll say hello on the night stupid question: Do you need to bring your own safety pins for the numbers?
  14. I saw him up the braes about this time last year, he was doing some sprint training along Ferenze road (or whatever the road is called that goes downhill towards Glennifer road). I guess trying to simulate the speed he'd be coming out a bunch at.
  15. Seems to be a fair number of Welsh riders making the break through at elite / world championship level now (i guess in large part aided by Newport velodrome opening a few years ago) hopefully some of the Jets and other Scottish youngsters at the track league will be doing the same in the future. No pressure See me? See happy?
  16. It is on al jazeera - I've been watching it on youtube though (search for the user 'randomsportvideos' and they have uploaded an hour or so of each stage)
  17. Just a heads up incase you havent noticed on the online booking yet but there are now DST sessions available at the velodrome. 2 hours for £20 either focusing on sprinting or endurance. Not sure if it will involve the derny but I hope so!
  18. Well done to those involved What sort of speed do the races average particularly the C and D? Actually i dont even know if there is a D I might just be making that one up.
  19. The guy that took my accred 4 told me he often races in the A's with a 49x15 and that there are also guys in the same race with 50x13 so there does seem to be quite a variance...all i know is that they could all rip my legs off whatever gear im in
  20. the sufferfest videos are pretty good
  21. I think it is going to be one of the most popular sessions what with it being the only evening drop in at the moment - Not sure if it is just a one off but last friday was alot more structured (and fast) than any of the other drop ins i've attended.
  22. Hi there Been thinking of joining for a while now but as i'm often busy at weekends it seemed like it would be a bit daft joining and then not turning up for months on any club runs. However do you accept new members to ride the track? I have my accreditation, attend the drop in sessions when i can and eventually want to progress to taking part in the track league and think doing this as part of a club is the sensible way to go about it. I totally understand if you would prefer someone new to ride with the club on the road first, get to know the other members and learn the ropes that way rather than on 44 degree banking with no brakes! I would certainly hope to be able to do ride with the club on the road at some point in the future but at the moment it isn't possible.
