  1. Well done guys, quite fancy having a go at this one at some point. Jody
  2. Not sure if I'll fit it in before the track closes for the games due to work etc. if I get the chance as soon as possible.
  3. Just a wee update, I had to cancel my accred 1 in April due to illness but went to the SCHV this morning and did the session. I think it would be fair to say it was one of the best bits of fun I've had on the bike. Can't wait to book the second session and get back out on the track. For anyone that's not tried it. Do it now ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘
  4. Good luck tomo, hope it's not too windy up there.
  5. Well that was another very enjoyable day out on the bike (well the morning anyway). Felt quite strong and think i put in a bit much effort in the morning as I was thinking of throwing in the towel and not going back out for the afternoon. I had registered for the full route so wouldn't have sat well with me to chuck it so went back out. Really enjoyed the afternoon (even the Mennock pass) until the slog next to the motorway, the headwind just about killed my legs. After all that made it to the finish with 103 miles on the Garmin so happy with that. Quick drive up the road and then out to a 40th. Managed to stay awake and found another type of Peroni that's 6.6% (not just my legs that are sore today). Glad everyone seemed to enjoy it and thanks for all the words of encouragement each time you all passed (it does seem to help on those hills) Jody
  6. Hello everyone, Thanks for one of the best days I have had on the bike. A friend from work (Michael) joined us for the ride today and from his experience and the friendly atmosphere, not to mention Chungs sales pitch I think we could have a new member. With Drumlanrig fast approaching I have been trying to get the miles in but with other distractions lengthy runs were few and far between. Maximum of 58 before today. Set out this morning with the intention of meeting the rest at the bottom of the Clune but we were making good time and got to the Ferry in time for the 930 one. Didn't have to wait long to be met by an impressively large bunch. Once on Dunoon I, and 5 others opted for the middle route, there was a climb before splitting from the main bunch that I think just about killed me. As I reached the top and everyone patiently waiting Daryll was taking a pic or video of me approaching. If you can PM me this (just to see the look on my face either happy to have made it to the top or happy to be alive. The long slow drag towards Strachur was pretty brutal but rewarded by a high speed decent which we all thoroughly enjoyed. A wee cafe stop and then back down the side of Loch Eck. Thanks to Paul and Andrew for their long spells at the front and helping with the run back in to Dunoon. Once back in Gourock it was a quick run along the A8 until we left the other 4 at the foot of the Clune. Michael and I headed back to Renfrew via Bishopton. Ended up with 93.7 miles on the Garmin. Made me feel a lot better about Drumlanrig next week. Greg, great idea about the run and hope as a club we can do this type of thing more often, also a thanks to everyone for making my friend feel so welcome, he's been raving about it since. Jody
  7. Chung, I think that would be great idea to keep the group together as much as possible. From memory a large group round those roads was quite something and it certainly took the average of the 30 milers and intermediates within it up quite a bit the last time (didn't seem like a lot more effort). Jody
  8. Jann that would be great thanks Craig, a friend from work is also planning on coming along so we will be leaving Renfrew and just heading for the Westferry. No doubt catch you on route. Jody
  9. Thanks for the reply guys, was just seeing if there was any route that I could see on Google before hand. If anyone knows and doesn't mind posting up that would be great. If not I'll enjoy the magical mystery tour (without the LSD). Chung I'll aim to be at bottom of the Clune for about 9 and just keep going, pretty confident you guys will catch us. Anyone heading from Renfrew through Bishy ? Last question I promise, can anyone post the location of the shop with cheap Ferry tickets. Thinking nearest street reference (or name of the shop). I was late the last time and just about had to throw my bike on and jump on myself and pay top dollar for my fare. Oh that was a long post Jody
  10. Not too sure of roads etc over that side of the water so if someone could post up options so I can have a look at the map that would help a great deal. I seem to remember a route we did a couple of years ago, some of the Paisley Velo boys came along and we climbed a few hills with a nice decent in to Otter Bay(???) and then a nice roll along the waterside before a cafe stop. After this it was the run back in to Dunoon along the loch side on some crackin road surface. Again not sure what the options are but this was certainly a good route. Also if it's the 10am ferry, what time is everyone looking at being at the bottom of the Clune ? Thanks Jody
  11. Excellent idea Greg, Any other 30 milers or Intermediates going for this ? Fancy getting a long run in especially with Drumlanrig only 6 days after this. In anticipation Jody
  12. Alan, Billy, Boyd, Thanks for all the tips. I'll get myself along nice and sharp on the night. As per Boyds update, if anyone else has any tips about do's or don'ts then I'm happy to listen. I'd rather not be the one that everyone is laughing at. Jody
  13. Hope you are doing ok Chung, all the best in your recovery. I bet you're back out in no time ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘
  14. Hello, I am just looking for a wee bit of advice. Finally managed to book a place on the accreditation 1 session in April after a few 5am alarm calls with no joy. Can anyone tell me what if anything I need to do before hand. Planning on using one of the hire bikes. Do I need to organise shoes, pedals etc. do I need to let them know before hand of my intention to hire ? Also how early do I need to go before the start of the session for bike fit etc or is that part of the session. Sorry for all the questions but I have absolutely no idea about the track but can't wait to have a blast at it. Jody
  15. First outing on the bike for a while and really enjoyed it bar my snapped spoke and 2 punctures within about 3 miles of each other. Forgive me if I've got any names wrong but thanks to Mike for staying back with me and the expert knowledge from the two Ian's, Al and Kenny (who past at the second puncture stop) to get my bike going again so I could finish the last 20 miles or so. I'll get the pints in if I see you out and about. As for Kenny I should have asked at the time but what kind of pump is it you had today, think mine is getting lobbed in favour of that one ðŸ‘ðŸ‘👠Jody Ps thanks to all for organising, it was first shot at the Don Smith but won't be my last.
  16. Hello, Does anyone have a garmin link to the medium route, I tried to look on the map my ride but it won't let me zoom in to see the roads. I plan on doing that ride but like to have a good idea of the roads before hand. Any help would be great. Jody
  17. Commiserations magazine through the door for me too 👎👎👎 good luck to those that haven't heard.
  18. Billy, Just checked the website and it's definitely by post. Although it does state cyclists would be looking out for the post as from today so may be over the next couple of days. The other interesting bit on the website states " British Cycling members still have the chance to get a place in the 100-mile sportive through the British Cycling Club Challenge. This is open to all British Cycling members bar Elite or Category 1 riders. Entries open on Tuesday 4 March and close on Friday 21 March. Full details will be emailed to all cycling clubs affiliated to British Cycling" Not sure I'm deciphering this ok but I believe we may be able to apply for spaces through the club as I believe the club is affiliated to British Cycling. Jody
  19. Keep an eye out for the postie today. The yes or no should arrive today. Good luck everyone. Jody
  20. Allan, Just caught this thread and thought you would like to have a look at this http://www.magicshine.org.uk/magicshine-mj-808-8-p.asp I bought this last year and it had been absolutely fantastic, to be honest sometimes I get flashed from drivers because of how bright it is. There are three settings, full beam a bit dimmer and flashing. Just incase it's any use to you as it's a bit cheaper than the Cateye and I think Maplin are selling it for about £65. Jody
  21. Alan, Thanks for the advice, I had ordered the press that Chung listed on his post above. It was only a couple of quid on eBay and sounds kind of similar to what you made out of bits from BnQ. I also ordered the proper FSA BB30 press plates from chain reaction cycles, they had them reduces from £15 to £4 so thought I wouldn't go wrong. Think I'll get all the internal cables run(apparently this should be done before BB is fitted) and once the press and cups arrive I'll contemplate doing it myself then give in and pay a professional. Thanks again everyone for all the advice and tips Jody
  22. Thanks Paul, the bit that scares me is my wife finding bike parts in the freezer 😱😱😱 I remember my mum going off on one when I was younger as I emptied 2 shelves of her freezer to put my BMX Skyway wheels in to straighten them out 😂😂😂
  23. Thanks for the info and tips guys. Like you Kenny I'd like to be able to build the frame from scratch but yeah it's a new carbon frame so don't want to cause irreparable damage to it. Might shop about and see who would fit it for the best price for me. Thanks again Jody
  24. Hello everyone, I was looking for a wee bit of advice about fitting a bottom bracket if anyone can help. The frame I have is one of the BB30 style bottom bracket and I'm looking to use my existing Ultegra hollowtech II chain set. I have bought a Praxis works BB30 to hollowtech adaptor which requires pressed in to place. This is where the problem lies, does anyone know of a cheap press that can be purchased for this or have any good ideas about how I could fashion one from existing household items (A-Team style). I have looked online and don't really fancy forking out £50-£70 to buy one as I don't see myself using it very often. I was also looking to do the bike build myself to save shop fees where possible. Anyway thanks for reading my ramblings and if anyone can offer advice I'd be eased to hear it. Thanks Jody
