  1. The third of this year's scheduled Chocolate Series of TTs. First rider off at 18:45 this week, so meet at 18:30 at the usual place towards the Inchinnan end of Georgetown Road. Here is a link to the course: JWCC Georgetown Road TT Route Nobody has volunteered to officiate yet for this one, so there's an opportunity for those who haven't done it yet this season!
  2. I aim to be out for this one, had a few days off the bike so need a gentle run!
  3. The second of the Chocolate Series of Time Trials for this year. Looks like it was a good event last week with 10 riders, but I'll not be there again this time. The route is from the Inchinnan end of Georgetown Road, around the large roundabout at Houston and back to the start, about 7 miles. Here is a link to the course: JWCC Georgetown Road TT Route Riders with a time for 10 miles of less than 26 minutes don't qualify for the Chocolate Trophy, but there is a trophy for sub 26 minute riders, so there is something for everyone to compete for! First rider off at 18:30, meet at 18:15. Paul L. has offered to timekeep, but we will need another volunteer to assist. Here's the link to the members section of the bunch where members can sign up to help: Confined Event Volunteer Rota
  4. Tuesday 29th March sees the start of this year's Chocolate Series of Time Trials. The first four running on Tuesday evenings up 19th April, with the scheduled for later in the season. For those unfamiliar with what the Chocolate Series is about, here is a link to an explanation: The Story of the Chocolate Trophy The route is from the Inchinnan end of Georgetown Road, around the large roundabout at Houston and back to the start, about 7 miles. I am posting this in good time, and David Cathcart has already offered to assist, but we will need another volunteer to timekeeper. 5. Note: this event is scheduled for 11:30 as the Velopreda TT is earlier on the nearby Westferry route. As Langbank Hilly #1, the start is in Langbank, just along from The Wheelhouse restaurant. The course runs up the B789 all the way to the small roundabout in the middle of Houston, where you turn and re-trace most of the way back to Langbank. The end of the course cuts off to the left before the last steep sections and finishes at the entrance to Gleddoch Country Club. Here is a link to the route: http://www.mapmyride.../view/650383978 An undulating course, reasonably quiet road for those yet to do their first TT, open to those who intend to join the club or are already a member. David Cathcart has kindly volunteered to assist with this one, but we need a further volunteer to be timekeeper. Here's a link to the members section of the bunch where members can sign up to help: Confined Event Volunteer Rota
  6. Following on from the Restricted Gear TT, this is the first of 2 Langbank Hillys at the beginning of the season, with a further one scheduled near the end. The start is in Langbank, just along from The Wheelhouse restaurant. The course runs up the B789 all the way to the small roundabout in the middle of Houston, where you turn and re-trace most of the way back to Langbank. The end of the course cuts off to the left before the last steep section and finishes at the entrance to Gleddoch Country Club. Here is a link to the route: http://www.mapmyride.../view/650383978 An undulating course, reasonably quiet road for those yet to do their first TT, open to those who intend to join the club or are already a member. As usual we need 2 volunteers for pushing off and timekeeping. Alex B. has already offered to help, so that's just one more volunteer required please to 'show him the ropes'. The Championship will be decided based on the results of all the TTs on the route in the season with 20, 15 & 10 points awarded for each 1st, 2nd & 3rd place achieved. The competitor with the most points will be the winner.
  7. It was a lovely day for this, the club website was down - but everything else was good! Just 3 riders: Lap 1 Lap 2 Total Previous Times Carol C 21:25 21:18 42:43 43.03 (2015) Dave C 18:25 19:30 37:55 38:04 (2015) Alan T 15:58 15:58 31:56 35:06 (2014) Well done to all, looks like a new set of PBs all round, Alan gets extra points for consistency! £9 transferred to the club account.
  8. We missed you Chris, but hope your better for the Langbank Hilly next week.
  9. To help the smooth running of Confined Events and to help riders and helpers know what is involved, I have compiled the notes below on what might be expected of each role: Expectations of riders include: Adults should pay a £3 contribution. Under 18s must have a completed and signed consent form for the particular event from their parent or guardian with them or they will be unable to ride. JWCC Confined Event Parental Consent Form.pdf Observing the Highway Code and the law of the land. Taking responsibility for their own safety. Wear a cycle helmet Volunteering to help run Confined Events over the course of the season. Expectations of Time Keeper: Check course against the Risk Assessment and make any updates on Record Sheet as required. JWCC Confined Event Record Sheet.pdf Brief riders about the course as per the Risk Assessment. Compile rider start order based on expected performance. Collect £3 entry fee from each adult rider. Ensure any under 18s have signed consent forms from their parent / guardian. Record Start and End time for riders. Post results and moneys collected on Bunch thread for event. Transfer funds to club bank account. Inform club secretary & confined events convenor of any issues regarding the event. Forward all event paperwork to the confined events convenor so that Risk Assessments can be kept up to date. Expectations of Assistant Time Keeper: Erect Signs as required by the applicable Risk Assessment. Hold-Up / Push-Off riders as they start. Assist with timing at end of course. Remove signs after event, and return them / pass them on for the next event.
  10. Gerard, That looks like a good option to me, about 17 fairly gently miles each way, with a cafe stop at the end. Also Castle Douglas to explore on the way and a choice of longer routes to get there for anyone so inclined. (or wanting to seek out an incline!)
  11. Thanks Alan, I'm not sure why it didn't work for you but I've put your name in to to help this week!
  12. Can't make it tomorrow I'm afraid, but it should be a good day so enjoy!
  13. This is the first Confined Event of the season, about 10 miles on a hilly route, restricted to the small chainring. (I'll bring along some cable ties to temporarily disable your large chainring!) Here is a link to the route: http://www.mapmyride.../view/651582320, the TT is 2 laps. This is a fun event, a bit different from traditional TTs, and can act as an introduction to the seasons confined events for both those new to TTs and old hands! I will help with this one, but one other volunteer please to help with pushing off and timekeeping.
  14. Can't do Monday Gerard, but maybe Tuesday?
  15. I've not heard any more on helping with this. Is there an update on what help is required? Where and when? Who's doing what?
  16. Following the meeting on Monday, we have planned a trip leaving on 30th April for one or two nights, depending on individual time commitments. Accommodation is booked at St John's Town of Dalry for Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May at £45 per person per night for dinner bed and breakfast, no single room supplement. This gives a 73 mile cycle each way from Johnstone, with the option of a run to explore the area on the middle day. A shorter option is from Ayr station at 38 miles. There are currently 5 confirmed and 3 probable participants. Transport is available for luggage, there is some accommodation still available if anyone else is interested please post, of PM me.
  17. Note this schedule is now modified with:- Jim Daly APR moved to confirmed date of 3rd April Langbank Hilly #2 on 26th March, time changed to 11:30 to avoid clash with Velopreda
  18. Many thanks to Iain and Billy for a great evening, I thought it was an excellent introduction to track cycling. Iain, thanks for organising it all and for the guidance notes - they were a real help for us first timers. Billy, the coaching was just what we needed to build confidence and have fun, thanks you both. I'll look forward to another time!
  19. Looks like a similar route to the one that some of us are planning to do in May, clearly they are taking our lead!
  20. I've only got a pass out until 11:00, so can't do the route but will open up the Club Rooms between 8:50 and 9:30 so that all the bunches can use the facilities and drop off their contributions to the post ride catering, I plan to do some baking on Saturday and will bring it along. If anyone wants to do around 20 miles leaving at 9:30, I would welcome the company!
  21. I can help with sign-on, but wont have a car so can't do route checking.
  22. I think your right Paul, Wouldn't do any harm to have a get together and work out some details. How about Monday 29th Feb @ 7pm in the club room? I think the club room is available on a Monday when there's no committee meeting. I suggest that we all bring any ideas we may have on accommodation, routes, etc. So far we have expressions of interest from: Gerard, Paul C., Carol & Dave, Jane & myself, but anybody else is welcome if they think they might like to join in.
  23. Well spotted Ian, Do you want to enter them both? In any event it's probably best not to have them run concurrently as they are on neighboring roads. We could do the Hilly later in the day to give the advantage to those who are still fresh, or move it to 2nd April before the Jim Daly on the 3rd - but that would mean the Flanders party would miss it (though it looks like there's only 2 TTers going)? Happy to take suggestions.....

  25. Alex, That seems like a good call, I'll amend the original post to have 15 minute intervals and give more recovery time before the track!
