  1. Hoping to get out on Saturday morning for some 50-60 miles from the clubrooms - say 9.30am start? Pace purposeful but not frantic - more concerned with getting some miles in over the week-end. Weather looks fine but cold, so am happy to leave a route choice till the morning - will think about it on the ride over and am open to any suggestions on the day. Not adverse to a cafe stop, but would prefer it towards the end of the run. Company most welcome - please post if interested and I'll check here Friday Pm. Thanks Iain

    Kit etc

George Black is actually specifically excluded for safety reasons. The relevant regulation appears to be paragraph 1.17.4 of the SC handbook which says "All competitors must wear their own club's registered colours - or any other single colour other than black for safety reasons - in open competitions." It is actually surprisingly difficult to source an entirely single coloured suit. Probably unlikely to be too much of an issue but that's what it says. Iain
  3. Looking to do 50-60 miles steady from about 9.30am. Happy to meet at clubhouse if anyone fancies joining up - not fussed about route/happy to make it up on the morning. Iain
  4. Hi Ian looks like the weather may be a bit damp but I'm up for a run oot again unless it's torrential! Iain
  5. Thanks Paul - unfortunately it looks like I'll be away that week-end. Iain
  6. Sorry Jan, only getting your message now! Iain, Kay and I met at the clubrooms and we had a great run out Now, let me see, where did we go...? Clubhouse; track to Glengarnock; Barmill; a circular route to Dunlop; coffee stop at a farm tea room near Stewarton (very nice!); back road to Uplawmoor; Caldwell Braes/High Barr Road( steep!); Peesweep; downhill to Johnstone/Elderslie; home. A cold day but fabulous weather and great views of Arran and Goat Fell (snow covered), Ailsa Craig to the west, Tinto to the south , and Ben Lomond/mountains ranges to the north.
  7. Fine Ian - cu in the morn. Iain
  8. Ian Weather still looking fairly hopeful. Happy to come over your way - say 9.30am? - either Bishopton or the clubrooms as suits, according to fancied route. Happy to agree route on the morning as weather/whim suggests. Iain
  9. Hi Ian - forecast looks OK at this stage in which case I 'll be happy to join you! Iain
  10. Two for the price of one! John Carrigan, solo on MTB on the track heading east between BOW and Linwood around 11.45 this morning. Later, around 2.15pm, Kay Tennant out running on the track just west of Morrisons. She assured us she'd been out cycling or something similar earlier in the day! Iain
  11. Fantastico Richard - setting a high standard! Iain
  12. Not sure what's happening on this... Also, its probably just me, but I can't see Richard's helpful earlier post on other clubs/kit suppliers. Have made some (unscientific) enquiries as to the experience/position of a few other local clubs. The following seems to be the case: VC Glasgow South: started off with a Chinese company who proved unsatisfactory, moved to Endura but have experienced similar concerns to ourselves. Have an order outstanding from Endura but are actively considering future alternatives. Ivy CC: have been with Giordana for some years - not the cheapest but no issues with quality/service. From memory I think Glasgow Couriers also use Giordana. Glasgow Wheelers CC: currently using the Portuguese supplier (Carvahlo?) as are Paisley Velo RT. Wheelers report no issues with the kit quality or service, other than the individual member order facility has been difficult to manage in practice. They are considering a change, largely on the basis of a more local supplier. Have been thinking about Endura, Lusso, Impsport and apparently someone local who makes the Vortex RT kit. On a recent trip to N. Ireland I noticed that a couple of clubs there were using the German supplier that Billy used for the Nove Colli tops. Other folk may have further information but there seems no shortage of options. Iain
  13. Tony Carrigan - about 11.45 this morning, on a solo mission rolling into Kilmaurs from Cunninghamhead, as Mary and I and 3-4 others passed in the opposite direction. Iain
  14. Ian - I bought a Cyclops one last year partly on Ramsay's rec. I went for the basic Cyclops Magneto without the bar cable adjuster (couldn't be bothered with the phaff - just change gear to make it easier or harder) - it works well and is much easier, with a simple slide bolt (for me) to adjust/mount/dismount the bikes than the Tacx ones the club has. Iain
  15. Greig - the Tel No is 0141 287 7000. That's the Emirates Arena - there's a touch key menu and you choose something like "for pitch bookings". Iain
  16. Fair play Phil -it's quite a hill even if you were felling good! Iain
  17. Have a good one Phil - look on the bright side...there's fine beer to be had at the top, in the excellent Shoulder of Mutton in Holcombe. Mary used to have a house in the next village down the valley (Helmshore). Great country for any kind of bike ride! Iain
  18. Sorry nocando to-morrow Kenny - helping with a flitting unfortunately! Would be interested in a regular Saturday run over the next few months if there's interest. Will post something for next week and see if there's any takers. Iain
  19. Great effort folks - well done to you both! Iain
  20. There has indeed been some discussion on Braveheart and an updated Meadowbank Accreditation list posted. This lists current JWCC members as provisionally accredited; Richard, David T, Greg B and myself. This stems from a two hour session in July 2010. Other than Richard, I'm not sure if any of the others have ridden on a track since - I certainly have not. Much as I enjoyed the 2010 session and learnt a lot - (they had us doing team pursuit changes and finished with a Devil), it was only my second track outing in 40 years! I would consider myself a track novice and whilst I ride a fixed wheel regularly, would certainly welcome some non-competitive track time to start. I now have a track bike and am as keen as any to get going! Iain
  21. Congratulations to Phil and well done to all braving the elements! Fantastic photos as ever from Colin - nice idea to switch the course to a river bed! Iain
  22. Great effort Phil -well done indeed! Iain
  23. Congratulations to Grieg & Elaine and well done to all - notably Jann and Kenny Mac! Iain
