  1. Paul drop in sessions are 9-10 every weekday morning and friday nights which i think are 6-8! A timetable exists but I'm not sure how to access it, there is one printed that sits on the wall in the bike hire bit!
  2. Bell Meteor II Helmet for sale: Size Medium (55-59cm) Weight 390g Excellent condition however been used for about 7-8 time trials (including sprint time trials). Has a few tiny scratches only visible under close inspection - these in no way shall affect performance of helmet. Perfect for time trialling on track and road. Track coaching

Don't know if I'm too late, but i would be up for it, and could probably lend a spare track bike too (52 frame i think?) albeit it has some nice pink bartape
  4. I'd be interested! Jonathan.

    Jim Daly

I'm stunned... Jim was one of the few Johnstone wheeler's who rode track when i first started, and was always very supportive for my sprinting. I remember his first track event we did a team sprint together, vaguely remember coming 3rd! Always the first to ask about how track was going. Aloways the first to congratulate on successes. Always willing to offer help, and expected none in return. Jim was one of the most genuine characters I've met in cycling. RIP Jim Jonathan
  6. Sorry Kenny, I'm afraid the skinsuit was deemed inappropriate for kids television, needed to wait for the watershed if you want to see that I could try put a Johnstone Wheelers sticker on my socks if that would do the trick?
  7. Hi Martin The show that's on tomorrow is also at 5:15 - 6:00. And it's a live show on thursday so the number to vote will appear on the screen but I'm not too sure how they're going to do all the voting stuff... Going down to London on Tuesday just mainly advertising right now
  8. Hi Guys Next thursday myself and 14 others from my school are performing live on BBC One in 'Comic Relief does Glee' at 5:15 pm There is also a show on Monday where it shows the 'highlights' in how we got to the live shows. Its a public vote with us against 2 other groups in our category, and the winner from each category then go against each other in the "Grand Final" where The Wanted perform and with celebrity judges! Anyway the groups name is Choral Sensation, and all the proceeds goes to comic relief so feel free to vote as many times as you like! Cheers Jonathan!
  9. Best of luck Johnny at the Wheelers! You'll be sorely missed as you did give me someone to train with for some proper sprint training! No doubt I'll be seeing you at the track in some way or another next year anyway! Jonathan
  10. Here's a wee cheeky race report from yesterday. Was through at the Meadowbank Velodrome yesterday racing in the Youth's 500m TT and Sprint. With some dangerous looking weather the Youths were up first in the 500m: Jonathan Mitchell Johnstone Wheelers CC 38.32 Robbie Spence Discovery JCC 38.70 Angus Gillies Peebles CC 39.39 So i took the scottish title in the 500m Johnny Cosh was also riding the Men's Sprint and he qualified for the Sprint competition, with a time of 13.01, but going out in the first round having faced the top qualifier Bruce Croall. So a bit unlucky for him for this year. It was great to see Kayleigh Brogan back on the track racing for the City of Edinburgh though! I was then up in the sprint qualifying 1st with a time of 12.98 and being over 7 tenths of a second faster than the other youths. I progressed through the quarter finals against Emily Fyfe pretty easily, with the main aim of saving energy for the semis. I was up against 4th seed Robbie Spence in the semis and took the 1st heat after he fell asleep and i jumped underneath him, getting a good gap and winning by a sizeable margin. In the second heat i then took the front and attacked with a lap and a half to go getting a good enough gap on him and winning on the line This meant i was up against Gus Gillies in the final who qualified 3rd. In the first heat i attacked with a lap to go, pipping him on the line. Being one ride away from another Scottish title i let Gus take the front and then when he attacked we raced shoulder to shoulder round the entire lap with me just winning by a wheels length on the line So that ended an eventful day with me taking 2 Scottish titles in the bag Although I find myself for a second year in a row, asking for more representatives from the Wheelers and Jets to be racing at this event. It is a great event with Scottish medals in the offering and a bit disappointing in the fact that only one other Wheeler entered the event. Especially since the big showing at the Wosca, why should it be any different for the Scottish? Cheers Jonathan
  11. Apologies all, but i can't make it on saturday as i have a full day of for my school show ... which come to mention it its les miserables on the 14th of june if anyone wants to come see it? Tickets £6 Jim I have a set of rollers if needed, and disk wheels can be used in any event but bear in mind if there is a lot of wind, as you get blown about quite a bit. And i'm not too sure what exact gearing would suit you, probably something that keeps your legs spinning at a reasonable pace. I use a 49 x 15 as its the youth limit, but maybe a 49 14 would suit you for the bunch races, but if there are standing start TT's you might be best with a smaller gear so you can get up to speed quickly. Jonathan
  12. I'll hopefully be there! Any one else up for it? I'm sure some guys would fancy the team sprint! Ooh and can youths enter the senior sprint competition? Cheers Jonathan
  13. I was wondering if my race license might be kicking about the clubrooms at all because i ordered it in about a month ago and still hasn't arrived with BC saying they posted it? Cheers Jonathan
  14. they would let you ride regardless and for the seniors its 1 hour long thats really all i know because i've not rode the course before or seen what its like. Jonathan
  15. I'll be there on Sunday for Plean but I'll make my own way there, although i may scrounge a lift off someone for a few of the other rounds
  16. Just thought i'd give a little report for the weekend. So i had the 500m time trial on the Friday night. I was aiming for a top 5 finish with other people in mind, namely John Paul, the recently crowned British Sprint and 500m time trial champion, the guy who's british Flying 200m record is the fastest a youth has ever gone in history so it really was a battle for 2nd and 3rd places. One problem was the back straight - With strong winds, fast times weren't expected. So i did a time of 38.84 - a personal best, although considering the last 500 i did was over a year ago - with Greg Brown in a time of 38.41 and with John Paul taking the win with a time of 35.51 so quite a large margin of victory Although a bronze was a great result for me although largely unexpected With the sprint the next day i had hopes of a top 4 finish, but with almost gale force winds on the back straight that would slow down times and also dictate tactics. I managed to qualify in 3rd place behind Greg Brown and John Paul so it was looking good. In the 1st round i was against the Isle of Mull rider Sam Downing, who was having his first races on the track so i was able to easily outsmart him in both heats so i was up in the semi-final against Greg Brown with John Paul against Paul Stewart in the other semi. I managed to take the first match against Greg after a well judged jump underneath him with a good gap emerging. So 1-0 to me in the best of three race. In match 2 i attacked again but Greg was right on my tail coming around me on the back straight so i sat up realising i had lost so it was 1 a piece with a C ride required to decide who would ride off for gold or bronze. So after every race all youths have to get their gears checked to make sure they aren't over the limit. So just before the C ride off i was told the gear i've been riding all year on, that had passed every gear check that day, was apparantly illegal. So it was for the desperate scramble for a gear that would be legal and as it turned out i was undergeared for the ride. I was then duly beaten although still with the chances for another bronze. So with Paul Stewart beaten by John Paul it was between the 2 of us for the bronze. He took the 1st ride after i fell asleep and he took advantage and got a gap on me. During the time gap between Allister Watson put me on a gear which matched the gear checker's requirements and was big enough. So taking the lead in the next match i got a good enough gap after my kick and won quite easily. So it was 1-1 with one ride left to decide who would take the bronze. With paul attacking again i got onto his back wheel and decided to rush him on the back straight, forgetting about the wind. Paul just nabbed in on the line with less than half a wheels width between it on the line. And as expected, John Paul won the sprint 2-0 with Greg taking his 2nd silver of the weekend Although disappointed not to get a a 2nd bronze i was pleased to achieve a 4th place as that is what i had been aiming for With the 2k pursuit the next day i didnt expect to do fabulously with a field of road riders. I ended up 5th, just out of qualification for the 3rd/4th ride-off, but doing better than i expected. So Paddy Galbraith took the gold with Greg taking a 3rd silver and then Kyle Yates taking the bronze over Angus Gillies So all in all i was pleased with my performances considering most of the riders i was racing against will be juniors next year. Thanks for reading
  17. So anyone up for the team sprint then? After a 3rd WOSCA team finish last year it'd be good fun to have another team this year. I know me and sarah would certainly be up for it so another member would do quite nicely. Cheers Jonathan
  18. Only realised that i should probably give an odd race report or too so here goes Last weekend i was through at the Meadowbank Velodrome racing in the Meadowbank Grand Prix. I arrived to find (for once) glorious sunshine greeted us I also found out I was racing in the support events rather than the youth omnium with the men which was alright as i can normally survive reasonably well in that category. As it turned out we had the huge jamaican Marloe Rodman who wasn't eligible to ride the british omnium champs so he was chucked in with us My first event was the 5k scratch. I stayed in the bunch comfortably, managing to chase down an attack from Joe Sutherland, taking spells at the front (maybe one too many ) and was edging to the front of the bunch about to kick when Paul Stewart (the only other youth in my race) launched his attack and i was spat to the back of the bunch rather quickly and not managing to close the gap and crossed the line as the last finisher with Big Marloe taking the win via a bunch gallop. Although a rather bad finishing position, i was quite pleased with how i had sat in and worked for the bunch and learned many lessons from that race. The next race was a 10k points race. Marloe attacked early, so i somehow ended up leading the chase again, and yet again tiring myself out for the sprint only managing a 5th which equates to no points. As the pace picked up i found myself dropped and going backwards. I then sat up and realised Marloe was about to lap me so i quickly jumped on his back wheel and sat there for about 6 or so laps. When i realised the bunch was about to catch us i retired seeing no need to be there. With the "Unknown Distance" event up next this could either go very well or very badly - the commisaires randomly ringing the bell whenever they felt like we had suffered sufficiently;-). I decided to take a risk and i attacked which ended up being ill fated with probably another 7 or 8 laps to go so again it was a DNF on the result sheet and another sweeping win for Mr Rodman The final event of the day was the Devil or 'Elimination race' With the last rider across the line being pulled out every 2 laps. To our surprise Marloe Rodman attacked, which according to every other devil race i've done, is illegal, so no one chased him. i got eliminated 2nd after being boxed in at the back with no other way around everyone. And winning that race was yet again Marloe who seemed to be making quite a healthy profit from his days racing. So all in all Saturday wasnt the best day in terms of results but i had plenty of things to take away from a days racing Sunday brought showers all before my first event, but there was one upside: Our Jamaican friend was racing with his own category! After the dreaded derny racing (if you've watched them you'll know!) my first race of the day got going - The 3k Scratch. I fancied my chances in this event as it was quite short. I managed to sit in the middle of the bunch not doing too work and with 500m to go i launched my attack, after about 70m or so i looked behind me expecting people to come charging round me, but found i had opened up a gap of around 30m. with the bell lap approaching i checked again to find i still had a large gap. Although i died in the last bend i only had Andy Laing come round me in the last 5/10m so i was pretty chuffed with a 2nd place. The next devil proved to be quite an anti-climax being eliminated early on after being boxed in and nearly taken out by some irish girls who had their first experience of riding a banked track With big Andy Laing taking his 2nd win of the day. My penultimate event was the Keirin in which i was in a tough heat which had many sprinters including Marloe. I ended up at the back of the line and as the derny pulled off the guy in front of me started to blow as the pace was romped up. As i was about to come around him, he swung up the track almost pushing me into the fence with me giving him my opinion on the situation so i rolled in in 5th place not qualifying for the final which Marloe Rodman then won. So my final event and the final event of the weekend loomed and it was the 8k points. I could come up with 101 excuses for this event but basically i rode terribly dying within the 2k. So with 20 quid in the pocket for my second place, it capped off which was a great weekend, perhaps not in results but i certainly learned a lot from it. Cheers
  19. They are being run over aug. 28/29/30 I know it clashes with the Sam dooley memorial tt, but it would be nice to see some wheelers at the events for a change. Could even have a team sprint on the go who knows? Entrys close 14th august (THIS FRIDAY) Full details on http://www.scottishtrackchamps.com/ cheers Jonathan
  20. so now is there any chance of a johnstone jets u-16? and i'm able to marshall i think oh and i thought i heard someone say there was roller racing on? Or something of the sort;-)?
  21. Just found out there is no chance of youths competing at the event this year as the majority of the riders are too inexperienced to ride!
