  1. Kenny, I will try to negotiate with wife, but since just back from boys weekend at applecross, probably doing bath/ bedtime duties. Ah domestic bliss As for Alan, he did fantastically well up the bealach, 6th fastest to the top and going well. unfortunately rider in front descending on damp and misty roads went down on nasty left hander and Alan then hit the deck. No way of avoiding, but end result, sair leg and I doubt he will be on the bike in near future. I made steadier progress and finished in respectable placing, mind you just in front of Alan, who carried on and pedalled with only one leg! Hope he gets well soon. Cheers, have a good ride tonight, looks nice just now! Duncan
  2. almost 3 weeks of coughing like a 40 a day man since wednesday: 2 days of D&V can hardly climb stairs at present, so no race. Have still offered to marshall so will be cheering (more like coughing) in support for the first race. So no lead out for the fast ones, who was I kidding... Come on you lads! Duncan
  3. I have already offered my services Kenny, hope for a chair to sit in and feebly wave a flag every so often as the A race flies by. Hopefully with a Johnstone Wheeler in the front group Duncan
  4. next email states I am now in but, cough (revolting greenish yellow stuff), sore shoulder, no time on bike in two weeks, blah, blah, blah. As to race tyres, I drove round the course, it is pothole central. I thought the Mulhooligan renrewshire day trip last month sought out all the bad roads in the area, well he missed this one. The single track is awful, particularly the edges of the road. Maybe the cooncil will fill them in next week, aye right. Definitely a Kenny Mac PAVE special Duncan
  5. 62nd place .........on the waiting list. don't think I need to bother pumping up the race tryes then must have been alarmed at my potential bounce back from Gifford snail's pace ride did anyone else get in, I assume Alan must be in after good finish at Lowthers Duncan
  6. http://www.braveheartcyclingfund.com/home.asp click on braveheart video 2007, watch at 3.34 and again at 3.56 again at 6.03 Once again, Mclean finds himself in front of the lens showboating. Mind you this is after we were dropped by Jason McIntyre and Alain Pieper who were fed up with the slow pace and decided to give chase to a group up front. It was awesome watching the speed. Anyway, Alan glad to see your chasing of the camera car was not in vain Duncan having watched again, I think it is Kenny S and son who are in the last shot at 9.50, good ending
  7. back from high altitude training camp- skiing with kids. encouraged to go over small jump by wife only a couple of feet, turned into 10 foot drop off (the height seems to increase with each telling) My back wis sair afterwards and back on bike this morning was not pretty. Hoping for some warmer weather for awaited increase in bike speed anyway, long and short of it is have applied for round 3, what about the posse from gifford? Frank, Howie, Colin and Ramsey. I am happy to lead out the sprinters for first 100m cheers duncan
  8. good luck for all the super 6ers! duncan
  9. have a good ride, I am off for altitude training and fluid replacement: skiing and apres ski in switzerland cheers duncan
  10. still at work, looks like a nice evening for it though. what are the scores on the doors then Duncan
  11. Hey Alan, from my vast experience of these races: do not get dropped go fast as you can go faster than that sprint even faster smile for the camera duncan have excuses handy for post race debrief sorry won't be there to see the pain, sweat and tears due to family holiday commitments. Bet Lance didn't have this problem with life conflicts affecting his race preparation
  12. Jim, fhey it was me in the distance, Duncan, that was out today. The reason: I spent so much time oot the back as Jim and Martin Mul-Vlanderren sought out and chased up each and every hill in the area. I guess the hill primes were equally shared, but, it was so far in the distance, who knows. I could say, that the sunshine boys, delighted to announce the arrival of summertime, appeared in matching colnago race bikes and therefore were soooo much lighter that they shot up the hills but that would be hiding the facts, the boys were pasting me on every hill. I could also say that Mul-Vlanderren took the light bike a bit far, heading off to deepest Renfrewshire, muddy tracks and all, with nae tube, nae pump and nae tolls. Fortunately jim supplied a tube and displayed an amazing gas pump which wnet off like a rocket booster but was nae help in filling the tyres. Having eventually caught up, I passed gas to martin, it worked. Weather cold, wet and a bit of wind but a good work out all the same. Duncan ps. Martin should be flying next weekend, awaiting the report with interest
  13. on the other hand, if I just looked at the top of the page where I typed that reply, I would have seen the answer, Doh! 6.30 it is then for any other feeble minded souls sometimes I wish there was an edit function on this site Duncan
  14. DavieR, I have looked in this thread and the confined events 2008, all event have times, except this series. Incidentally the homepage lists the confined events for 2007 Can anyone tell me when these are due to start? cheers Duncan
  15. I ordered mitts, not sure if I can make it tonight, will try cheers duncan
  16. what time would these be? duncan
  17. Alan, certainly made me look more closely at my rims although not sure if I would be able to pick out a rim that needs replacing. So, how did you get on with your fixed bike for commuting instead... nice and simple, with no gears to worry about? Do tell Duncan
  18. Red jersey for shamelessly attacking after wheel sucking all the way to the last few metres. mind you another jersey would have been a good idea I think Darryl and Paul had their minds on the merits of Phils folly just to finish off a good day otherwise they would have swept past Duncan
  19. LeJOG that's a few miles then! Duncan
  20. er, no Alan, Howie was well in front of me, but thanks anyway. Finished 2nd in a sprint with a group of 7, beating 2nd and 3rd placed women, very strong cyclists. Sorry that despite all Kenny's words of wisdom and Darryl''s suggestions, the bottom line was, when the arce when off like a bullet, I was near the back and worked hard to get to front third near start of climb at which point I was nearly done. I tried to stay with bunch but ended up looking for support from behind, unfortunately there was clear air behind me and in front. A lonely lap followed with Frank and then Howie going past looking srong, I tried to join them but had a chain problem ( I couln't make it go round fast enough). I picked up a group of three, including the two ERC ladies and we made good progress until being joined by another 4 riders, mainly ERC. It is better with company on any day but particularly in that raw east Lothian wind. The last lap was good with a steadyincrease in speed and a sprint in the last 400m, I thought I had it (for 55th admittedly) but Oliver brookes just glided past in the last few metres. Ok it was not Milan San Remo but it was great fun. Lessons: need to go faster stay out of wind do not get dropped, it is no fun Duncan
  21. good write up of the course found below. http://www.veloresults.co.uk/previews/2008/Super6%20Event%201/Super6Event1.html does it agree with your flying lap then colin? hope my cold has gone by weekend, excuses, excuses cheers duncan
  22. good effort Ramsay, glad to see you are now registered, welcome duncan
