  1. I would like to ride this too. Will probably stop by on the way home from work. [/img]
  2. I was planning to do this, forgot to send in my entry before going on holiday last week (I'm still in Lanzarote but coming home tomorrow. Haven't turned a pedal while I've been here) If I do the APR I'll probably need to drive to Fenwick as I have to take my daughter to swimming lesson in the morning so won't have time to cycle there. See you there anyway, hopefully...
  3. Unfortunately I will not make the DS this year as I will be in Lanzarote that weekend (secret training...with bucket & spade )
  4. Has anybody managed to find Super-6 #5 and #6 in the SCU calendar? I have identified 1-4 but struggling to find the last two
  5. Richard it's news to me if any individual cycling club's membership fee includes liability insurance. BCF Silver Membership (£35 a year) and CTC membership (also £35 a year) both offer this benefit. If you can get the same level of cover just by joining Johnstone Wheelers (£20 a year) then you're getting a really good deal. I haven't really thought it because I've been a member of BCF for the last year and CTC for about 10 years before that. If I remember rightly the CTC insurance covers you for most types of cycling including time-trials but definitely not road racing. I believe the BCF insurance covers you for road-racing (you would think so?) If you join the CTC, you also get a bimonthly magazine which is a bit different from the other cycling mags - as you would expect it's not at all racing-oriented and more about "real-world cycling". 6. Frank how do you make your "wee man" dance around like that? I'm impressed
  7. Don't forget there is an APR at Moscow on March 8th...and another one on March 29th...(and another one at Lake of Menteith on March 23rd). Anyone who missed the boat for the Humbie race may want to sign up for one of these.
  8. Would like to do this but....according to Metcheck etc. there is likely to be a bit of a freeze in this area between Thursday night and early Sunday morning - roughly minus 4 on Saturday morning. This means any un-gritted roads are likely to be quite icy. Is there any scope to postpone this event if the forecast does not improve? Rain, wind and cold make you hard but ice just makes you sore (and causes irreversible damage to expensive technical fabrics)

Know how you feel. I decided to abandon my bike at work on Friday and get the train home, when I went out into the car park at 6pm and saw how icy it was. I've already come a cropper once this winter, and I'm fed up sewing bits of Scotchlite into my jacket to cover up the tears!
  10. I hope to do some of the Scottish Cycling APRs again this season - there are 7 of them in Central Scotland - 2 more than 2007 - good news for duffers like me. Might do the TLI one at Moniaive again, but only if I'm feeling fitter than last year. btw I find Google Calendar is a very handy tool for collating dates from different event calendars into one place - ideal for those horse-trading sessions over babysitting & weekend working...
  11. Sorry you couldn't make it Colin. I turned up at the clubrooms at 0900, waited till 0915 then headed off on my own up the Braes road and wandered around the lanes for a couple of hours. Home by 1130 for tea and cake
  12. I'm up for a Saturday run this week. I will try and catch you in BoW. Or maybe in Johnstone, if I am running late myself.
  13. Crikey.....it's the People's Front of Judaea vs. the Judaean Popular People's Liberation Front, all over again... To answer the question at the beginning of this post - I am planning to be out this Sunday. If necessary I will turn back early and take any newcomers etc with me. (Swing off at Kilbirnie and head back to Johnstone via Barrmill, the Braes, Spateston? Something like that).
  14. Crazy Tone's Winter Clearout continues: I have a pair of barely-used Tioga Psycho-II tyres (26" x1.95") and matching tubes, which I don't need. They were on my MTB-hack-thingy when I got it from eBay but they're not really my style (too knobbly for commuting, too wide for cyclocross). Free to anyone who wants them. Send me a PM
  15. Someone has now offered to take this off my hands so it is no longer available...
  16. I have a Polar F1 HRM which I no longer need. I am offering it for free to anyone who will get some use out of it. It is basic (only measures average HR) but very reliable and easy to use. I have had it for nearly 2 years and have found it a very useful tool for measuring work rate and pacing myself. PM me if interested
  17. I think we should have some hilly TTs, e.g. on the Langbank to Houston course (the B789). This road has been resurfaced in the last couple of months. I remember it was used in 2005 and I thought it was a great course although the surface was crap then (not so now). Also I believe the RNAD circuit at Beith has been used as a hilly TT course in the past although I think that was before my time with the club. I recognise that most people probably prefer flat TT courses (seems to be the tradition in this country) but hilly ones can add a bit of variety.
  18. Auchentiber - sounds like a one-hour ride from Johnstone, am I right? Seems OK. It's only 5.61 miles though, would u be talking about 2 laps or what?
  19. Just a note to keep an eye out for Christian Opitz from Berlin, he is studying in Paisley and looking for Saturday morning training runs. I bumped into him at the Mugdock cyclocross today. It seems he asked Dooleys about local clubs and they nominated us.
  20. I would join you but I am doing the cyclocross at Mugdock on Sun 28th. Due to family commitments I can't really do both.
  21. Ferry Rd (Erskine Bridge to Bishopton) is definitely open. (The section from Compaq to the bridge was resurfaced last weekend, it is now silky smooth.) Drumcross Rd (the wee cyclist-friendly shortcut from Old Greenock Rd to Ferry Rd) has also been resurfaced, it was done last week or thereabouts.
  22. Very well done Alan/Kerry/Jim...sounds like you all had a good day....
  23. Selling one of my old frames on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=005
