  1. Paisley Express 6th Oct 1983 John Wins Hill Climb Paisley man John Fitzpatrick won the Johnstone Wheelers Hill Climb Championship recently when he completed a 630yd climb in 1min 26.41secs, four seconds ahead of his nearest rival. John, who lives in Foxbar, has been the runner up for the past three years to former champion Ian Neilson who could not defend his title because he has moved to Birmingham to live. The club president, 22 year old John, was delighted with the win and the presentation which followed later. Runner up in a time on 1min 30.88 secs was Stewart Addie. For the first time ever, a schoolboys event was held and this was won by Graeme Herd in 1min 56.5secs, followed in second place by Gordon Goldie with a time of 1min 57.45secs. Sponsored by Dooleys Cycles, the club meets every Tuesday and Friday at the clubrooms in Miller Street, Johnstone.
  2. Fantastic promotion. Well done to all involved.
  3. I have a set of original Flying Scot frame transfers for sale - including Continental transfer head / seat tube badge?
  4. Kenny, is that the right way about? Somebody else asked me the same thing on the Braveheart Forum?
  5. Defo give Neil MacLeod a shout - you won't regret it. You can get him on 07803 607505. Tell him I told you to call.
  6. Your tubular already has a robust rim tape glued to the base of it, so no need. Use tub tape - just as strong as glue if applied correctly and a thousand times neater / cleaner.
  7. In general, anything from halfords is usually third rate stuff. Very, very occassionally they will dip a toe into the pond of decent brands and then withdraw quickly. After sales service (or even service in the first place!) will be at best fourth or fifth rate. To be honest - I despise ever having to go into the place. Go into Dooleys and tell Ian what you are looking to spend and see what he can come up with? On the other hand, your existing gearing is more than sufficient for the Clune. I always look on the biggest sprocket as an insurance policy for when things go very, very badly wrong. A 39x26 should see you climbing up the stairs to bed. Many riders have a mental block about a steep bit of hill. They think that biggest hill automatically requires biggest cog - not always true. the first bit of the Clune is the steepest, but levels out a wee bit after 100yds or so when you pass the Hibernians hall. Try setting yourself a target of climbing in a 23(or 21/22 if you have it). If you can manage that first bit - at whatever speed, it will make the rest of the hill seem easier. I'm 16 stone and can manage it in 39x21...................slowly! Always keep the breathing in control. Leg pain can be mind over matter to a certain extent but but breathing cannot. Give that a try and let us know how you get on?
  8. Actually wouldn't be a bad event; a) Fixed wheel / single freewheels only Winner is the one who covers the hill in the biggest measured gear c) no stopping allowed (apart from traffic at roundabout) d) placings decided by gearing sizes. Those who DNF still get a placing depending on how much they managed (just like long jump, throwing events etc) e) where two riders tie - heavier bike wins
  9. Nothing to fix Kenny - I should have said that I meant a 53 x 15T cog - not 15 years old.
  10. Twas a few years ago and not a pleasant site - especially the first bit. This then turned into a bit of a challenge to see who could do the whole climb in the biggest gear. I suspect Donald Scally may have managed it in a 15?
  11. 30 x 25? I've climbed the Clune on a 53 x 16!
  12. I spoke to Wullie's brother (George) after the service. Wullie had a large collection of old cycling photographs which I'm willing to copy for the website / archives. Bill Taylor is going to get in touch with George later on and arrange this when it's convenient. As many of the senior members / former members get even "more experienced in life", I think it's important for their stories to be told and their memories to be recorded while it's still possible?
  13. Lynne and I went to Wullie's funeral today along with many former members of Johnstone Wheelers. I hadn't seen Wullie for a few years, but he was one of life's true gentlemen. Sadly missed. GG
  14. I have an original set of Rattrays Flying Scot Continental frame transfers.
  15. Grant, Renfrew. Off the top of my head........... Brian Smith Drew Wilson Billy Gibb Bobby Melrose Ian Campbell Stewart Duff Graeme Herd Martin Coll Frazer Connell Carol Murray Rita Montgomery Zoe Thomas And loads more that I'm not sure about!
  16. Gents, I'd be happy to help. I have tons of old pics - many of which are already on the website. I was a racing member from 1983 to 1990 and again from 1995 to 1998. I think I was club secretary at one point during my second spell? It would be good to include members who raced for Scotland and Great Britain?
  17. I've got top quality fishing rods, golfing and deer stalking up for grabs, going on here.......... http://www.worldseafishing.com/forums/f ... ay.php?f=8
  18. Belkin N1 Wireless Router. Technical data here; http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductP ... _Id=273526 £40 for a quick sale and buyer collects from Renfrew
  19. I have two of these for sale. Brand new in box. RRP is £294 each. I am selling for £100 each. These were a gift from a supplier but are sadly much bigger than expected and certainly too large for my Warrior 165! Weight is 40Kg per battery, so new owner will have to collect from the Renfrew area. More info and data sheet available here; http://www.yuasa-battery.co.uk/industrial/uxf.html
  20. I've got a 753 Ribble, 23 1/2 in stunning red'n'white stripes if it tickles your fancy? I've been to Jim Docherty's house on it if that counts? Ultra short wheel base and whole bike is yours for £250
  21. A short cage is used for closer ratio racing freewheels which have smaller diameter cogs. Long cages are traditionally fitted to touring bikes which may have larger cogs going up to 32T or even 34T
  22. Retro road wheels - free to a good home Miche 32H hubs, stainless spokes, velocity 700c aero rims, suntour 7-speed screw on block (12-18T), michelin axial pro green tyres. No skewers. Wheels are true with smooth hubs and no flats. Block is in VGC. New owner collects from Renfrew Free of charge - Any takers?
  23. I got one done a few years ago in a mototrcycle shop at Eglinton Toll
