  2. I can't do that weekend as Jane and I have kids week about so have a good one. I'll let al know as he is almost certain to come. So count him in. ss
  3. I'm not fussed. But whether or not folks can or can't go and where we should fix a date so people can plan so can someone post a COMPLETELY new post with the date option as I am now lost! SS
  4. No, but we want to get numbers for availability that weekend if thats what we do
  5. Ok , so we will go for 14/15th. I need to be back for the 15th which was why I was saying a Friday nighter into Saturday? So we can ride early saturday. There's a bunkhouse at Fearnan on Loch Tay or one in Aberfeldy , I think at Weem. I'd go for Weem. Great rides in all directions.? I love the going on a ferry but it won't work for time for me. If we do Weem or whatever it means organising cars for the Friday night or an early Saturday start. Weem bunkhouse looks good; rides out of Aberfeldy to Loch Tummel, Loch Rannoch, to the south , the great circuit over the BenLaweres flank and the waterboard road up Glen Lyon. Pub next to bunkhouse but also nice one up the glen Fortingall and Aberfeldy is a few miles away. Also suits me to nip off early. What are peoples thoughts? ss
  6. Hostelling Season is upon us! I am wondering if we can all settle on some dates? Only dates I currently have free are.... Saturday 3rd October and Sunday 4th October 31st October and 1st November Saturday 14th Nov and Sunday 15th Where? I hear Jura was discussed. I wondered about going to Killin or Aberfeldy direction? Good rides in all directions. I thought we might do an up on Friday night so we get a quick start on Saturday am? Then big dinner and stay over Saturday night. Catering by group, and I am happy to organise that if we can manage a date? ss (ex-cyclist)
  7. Quality remains long after the price is forgotten.....
  8. Thats not stupud that's a great idea! Can;t make it tho'! ss
  9. that means Johnstone georgetown Hardgate Milngavie strathblane Crow tak and back to Johnstone is 85 miles roughly ss
  10. Its about 50 miles partick to partick ss
  11. I have given up most things now I come to think of it... post HMI state of mind! ss
  12. we will do this again i work in levenvale so its an easy punt up to glencoe
  13. Ok intended to set off Milngavie 6.30... Drove up from here and got to the Clachaig in Glencoe at 4.45 Friday evening .. NNE wind so relativley ok 18.3 average. didn't eat enough (last mistake of Friday) Left 6.50 (first mistake of Saturday) Did proper route over side of Conic Hill and all Rowardennan off road climbs... got to Rowardennan at 9.10 having missed 9 o'clock ferry. (2nd mistake ) Road like demons on the next section and missed Inversnaid (11.02 ) boat by about 100 metres.. Al punctured at this point. Very depressed now (3rd mistake) Sat down for half an hour to contemplate next section. Inversnaid up the loch side involved a fair bit of carrying but none of the tales off handing your bike up over boulders. Still 2 1/2 hours for 7 miles is a bit frustrating....so... half an hour sittin g down to contemplate the last section... Up to Crianlarich passed uneventfully except.... puncture 2 and the small matter of stuck freewheel pawls on Als bike...oh oh. Bashing the wheel turned it into an intermittent fault and on we went to Tyndrum.. The car was at the Clachaig... the last bit was too much so we crapped out... never in the field of human biking has a pub been wanted so much by so few.. Davie Moore our co-rider went on to Kinlochleven where, at 10pm, his brother came and picked him up for safety reasons. If you are trying this in a day; leave at 5.30 am at the latest. Do get the rowardennan ferry( very important)
  14. I've retired from cycling so no comment ss
  15. got one thanks plan is set and we are going as 4 in the group to keep it tight and that's how many we wi9ll realistically fit in the car ss
  16. That all depends I have 8 speed shimano. somewhere. In the good old days of freewheels and clips and straps your 7 speed shimano bar end shifters would happily drag a 7 or 8 speed campag rear mech over a 5 mm spaced (old 7 speed and campag 8) spaced freewheel or cassette. 10 speed campag will happily shift 8 speed shimano mechs over 8 speed shimano cassettes. But you are probably after 9 or 10 speed aren't you? ss
  17. I'm doing the West Highland Way the day before so I'd like to but I doubt it...
  18. Hoping to borrow a Camelbak - did the Balmaha Rowardennan section the other day and there was cow poo issue. I've never had a water bottle on an MTB before then.... you soon learn
  19. Al and I are going to ride the West Highland Way on Saturday 6th June starting at 6 am from my house. We are driving up to Glencoe to dump a car on the Friday night and riding back from Glencoe on the road. Leaving Alexandria 3.15 pm, leaving Glencoe 5 pm back to Milngavie for 10.30 - eat = sleep - eat - bike- eat- bike- eat bike - drink -sleep We are aiming for 15 hours to Fort William and an hour back to the car at Glencoe. It's 95 miles off road and 15 on road back to the car. We may be stopping at the Clachaig on the way back. Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone want to join us? Road or trail?
  20. Myself, Al and Chris did the North Third Reservoir Loop above the Carron Valley, 4500 - 5000 ft of climbing in 50 miles cold and windy. That was up to mugdock down to Starthblane over the Crow up the Carron Valley, up to the masts and round the reservoir road - accompanied by Soft top MGs, convertible Jensen Interceptors and E types (80 cars - all unleaded), back up to the Carron Valley down then back up the Crow and Mugdock. We averaged under 14mph . 4000 feet is a lot of big climbs but 2000 can happen in a bit of rolling I'd suggest this would make a great club run- add the 36 round trip from here to Johnstone and it'd be a 90 miler more or less. You'd want a nice day. Views from the top are good of Wallace Monument, Forth etc
  21. I'm staying this sider of the river- see you soon
  22. That should be be 'without sun' of course
  23. Forecast for Sunday is miserable.. I was going to suggest North Third Reservoir ride but not in that! Any ideas? ss
  24. I think I won't make this- forecast looking good
