Fred Whitton route ride (as club awayday)?
simon simpson replied to Darryl Gunson's topic in Club Runs
I'll discuss with Al and Gerry tonight and post up.It's a long ride 110/112 miles - you are lucky if you average 14 mph if its a mixed group (these days I'd be lucky to make 14mph I think!) so that's 8 hours in the saddle an hour or more for breaks. The middle 40 miles took us almost 4 hours. Last time we did it was the same weekend in June, 5 degrees at Troutbeck at 8.30 and we got back to the car about 10 hours later. That's quite a late return for a Sunday -

Daryl, Al spoke to me about this. If it's still a day ride why not ride from the pub in Troutbeck; starts with a dual carriageway drag, through Keswick, has kirkstone as the last big one and a drag over 'whatever it's called edge'. Saves driving all the way into coniston thereby saving you 1/2. Hr or more driving each way at least. Maybe more? I'm probably coming along with Al if the Tories of Englandshire haven't executed all the public service workers by then and sold off their teeth and hair. I hear they are opening a smelting plant in Renfrewshire for the fillings. Oh, and a rendering plant for Glasgow City... -
Yeah, good ride yesterday. Now in know its only 135 mile round trip and I can leave the house after 7 I might be tempted again. SS

Hey! On Monday on the way home from work my 2006 right hand ergolever's shift wand snapped very near the pivot. I mean the big one that allows you to change up the block and make things easier not the thumb button. I just spent half an hour changing the broken (plastic with a carbon triangular patch stuck on) lever for an aluminium one from an old centaur pair. Its a wee bit tricky but once you have a small star screwdriver, allen keys and needle nose pliers its ok. I had a look at the exploded diagram online yesterday but did it from memory tonight. Anyway, it all works ok and goes to show you should never chuck anything away... I should have replaced the Gsprings (as I have them) and regreased the front and rear bearings but ...next time... I took the broken one apart yesterday and used a carbon repair kit to try to patch it but to no avail (Ive fixed a carbon frame and (mtb) bars and a year on they are still ok. But no luck with the pretend carbon of this... Sooooo....... does anyone have any spare / broken ergolevers they dont want so I can reinstate the donor bike with its bits? / and /or put a carbon lever back on the now fixed one? I know Davie B had an issue - not sure if he fixed it? The original lever was a 10 speed Record carbon ultra but anything would probably do. Thanks SS

Campag Ergopower repair advice
simon simpson replied to DavieB's topic in Wheels'n'Deals - For Sale & Wanted
The levers seem complicated but shouldn't defeat you. Most common repair needed in my experience was the G-springs (yes, really) needing replaced. You can download exploded diagrams as pdfs .they are on the campag site and the service centre will supply the parts . Generally cheap, ( used to be. Mercian cycles or Select cycle components both in or near Derby) If it clicks up the block but jumps back down- the ratchet doesn't seem to hold it's almost certainly the g springs. You need two . They used to be under a pound each and postage was three so order four springs Most easily done with a bench vise (tho I never had one) and I think you need a pair of three mm Allen keys Worth trying for the satisfaction of it if nothing else -

LEJOG or JOGLE
simon simpson replied to James2764's topic in Sportives / Audax / Tours / Long-distance
Dont even think about JOGLE. I once met two guys at Gretna who were jogling while I was lejoging and there was no comparison on the experience. Think about the fact that you always notice when it's a Northerly or North Easterly wind. Prevailing wind is generally South Westerly so try going North East starting from the South West. Also stay off the boring A30 and A6 bits as you will only do it once. I went across the Severn on the Bridge then via Anglesey. Regards SS -

Was thinking of Dunoon, Loch Striven, Glendaruel. Otter Ferry, Tignabruaich cafe stop and back to ferry. This loop is just over 60 miles and about 4000ft climbing. If that's not enough you can ride to the ferry and go back over the clune !

Looks like Kenny got in before me Billy. Also looks like Mallorca is off - sunny Argyll it is then. (Still not had my registration processed !) Al

This is Al using Simon's login. I will meet you north side of bridge tmw. Who's bringing sunscreen ?
-
On behalf of Al who is not registered - what is the plan for tomorrow morning - is it still North of the rive in which case he will meet you at the bridge. please post up if there is a plan. Also the mudguards do go this weekend as I recall - even the half length pretend ones that seem popular these days... on that subject - where is the drum up and who is bringing the meths for the primus? ss

garage clear out
simon simpson replied to simon simpson's topic in Wheels'n'Deals - For Sale & Wanted
tyres, wheels and saddlebag now gone -
I am having a garage clear out and I am wanting to shift the following. Contact me by email on [email protected] if interested • Turbo trainer: CATEYE Cyclosimulator CS1000. £100 is what I’d like so make me an offer.Good condition 7 years old and hardly used. Fan resistance and Mag resistance, watts read out. Solid remove the front wheel type. http://www.mtbr.com/cat/accessories/tra ... 53crx.aspx • of 16 inch alloy wheels which fit Audi A4 and A6 models. £60 ono As fitted to 1998 – 2001 SE models. Usual use marks, all run true and have 4 good tyres probably 2 Vredestein Sportrac 3 and 2 Michelin Pilot Exalto with some wear but fine. • Kamei Delphin Carbon Design Roof box – £85 ONO about 480 litres or more. The fixings for the roof have been mislaid but should be easy to replace. Indespension in Milngavie would have something. To sort it . Cost £220 , 5 years ago and never used. Think mine was left hand opening. Roof box company: Kamei is the best of the German roof box brands, and their boxes are the most robustly made on the market. The whole Delphin range has sliding box to bar fittings at both the front and the back of the box, so there's never a need to drill new holes (very rarely required in reality). Kamei makes a virtue of the push button locking system used on ths box, with additional front and rear 'click' catches so when you've stuffed your box full you can hang on the front till the catch clicks, then do the same at the back, and then push in the push button locks. Available with right hand opening or left hand opening, or in Kamei's exclusive 'carbon design' finish (right hand opening only) - a deep gloss black with a sort of 'mackerel skin' pattern running through it.
