  1. Sleep? When I was a junior doctor I didn't know the meaning of the word Good to hear from you Dave SH
  2. Have a good weekend guys. Sorry I won't be able to join you. I phoned Simon earlier in the week to let him know my knee's all swelt up I'd hoped it might settle down in time for a few beers.......em sorry a few miles round the island...... but I think I'd be struggling to get round Cumbrae at the moment never mind Arran. Have a good one. Simon - let me know how much I owe you and I'll get it in the post (and I'm sure it's not as much as the £100 Kenny S owes you!) SH
  3. Hi Kenny I'm afraid I just can't make Tuesday nights at all at the moment. StephenH
  4. Sorry folks but can't make it tomorrow night. Have a pakora for me. SH
  5. Wonderful news Simon. I know it was an awful time for you all. Will post about curry later tonight or tomorrow. Cheers SH
  6. All the best Dave, I'll be looking out for your results next season. Don't throw out your joansin kit yet though - you never know, your career plans might bring you back to this side of the water some day. SH
  7. Hello from the Barossa valley Not done much cycling on my tour of Oz but I'm def up for a weekend on Arran. I'll need to check on work arrangements when I get back but I'll confirm as soon as I can (jet lag permitting). Cheers SH
  8. Dougie It was always going to be interesting watching a man who, on the first rest day, announced he was waiting for a hip replacement. One of the standard treatments for severe joint pain is to give steroid injections into the joint, but his is hardly a standard case! I remember either last year or 2 years ago a close up of a rider who had been stung by a bee (I think it was a US postal rider) and the comentator saying there was nothing he could take for it because all of the effective treatments were on the banned list! So what can a man waiting for a hip replacement take? I was absolutely enthralled watching Landis over the last few stages and I only hope that the b sample is negative. But I agree with you Dougie........I'm at tad scunnered too SH

  13. Hi I think it's safe to say that all club members are on road bikes at the moment. There are usually a few variations over the winter months (hybrids with fixed wheels etc) but not really at this time of year. The routes we take and the style of riding is really best suited for roadies to be honest but the only way to find out is to come along and see for yourself. Keep a look out for advertised runs and turn up. If you would like to have a go on a road bike there is always the possibility that we could try and get one for you. Cheers Stephen Hickey
  14. As Ian mentioned elsewhere not a great turn out for the first of the chocolate series For my part I'm afraid work commitments look as if they are going to scupper the whole series this year However........ just to add to Ian's comments above. The chocolate series is aimed at those who would like a first taste of time trialling (but NOT only those!). It's a 7.5 mile course (ie shorter than the usual) on a very quiet road (the starting point is on the Georgetown road (B790) at the airport end (just before the junction with the A726) (here - http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi? ... 7&down.y=5) and the course heads back to Houston, turns at the roundabout, and finishes at the start. It's basically flat (a drag up to the turn) and has that very long straight section which usually lets you see the person in front of you that you should be chasing . AND..........most of it (unfortunately not all of it) was resurfaced earlier this year which means it's very very fast While the series prizes will only be awarded to those who haven't posted a time faster than 26 min for a 10, (or those who haven't posted any time at all for anything!) the events are of course open to all club members. This really is an ideal opportunity to have a go. You may bump into the occasional commonwealth team member or paralympian gold medallist but state of the art time trial machines are not required. Have a go on the drops, borrow tri bars if you can, just turn up to see what goes on, or learn about time keeping. Before you know it you'll be counting down the days til the next one to see if you can better your time Any questions, just post them here. Cheers SH
  15. Stevie I'm managing to get out this afternoon for a few hours but won't be able to do the APR tonight. Cheers SH
  16. Kenny Can you give us a bit more information about this petition? I'm sure a lot of bunch users won't know the background to this and maybe would be more inclined to sign the petition if they knew a bit more about it. Also - do you know where the petition originated from? I can't find any information on who (or which organisation) set it up. Do you know who in SCU it will be delivered to?, and if the athletes involved are themselves happy with the wording? From what little I know I think the letter referred to was a disgrace but I don't like putting my name to something (esp on-line) unless I know who is holding the information and what exactly they are going to do with it. Thanks SH
  17. Alan It's Tuesdays and Thursdays. SH
  18. PS I can't find Shillford on multimap (Campbell mentioned the start is near there in a posting a couple of weeks ago). Can someone tell me where it is in relation to the turn off to Uplawmoor or Lugton? Cheers
  19. Work permitting I'm hoping to do this tonight. Anyone else planning on being there? SH
  20. Doug Had a family cycle along the path from just before Bridge of Weir (we joined the cycle path at Crosslee road which is the back road from Crosslee to the edge of Bridge of Weir) to Kilmacolm and back and have to say there was very little to report The only trouble spot is the one referred to above where the path passes under the road at the Johnstone end of Bridge of Weir. As Liability says, anywhere there is shelter there are drinkers and glass. However even this section is not as bad as some. As I put the tagalong through its paces I'll report back. Cheers SH
  21. I won't be able to make this tonight (I'm working). Anyone else planning to go along? SH

    Dennis

Dear all I got a message this morning to say that Dennis was admitted to Glasgow Royal Infirmary after taking unwell at home. I managed to see him this afternoon and he was looking ok but a little shell shocked. He needs to have a few tests and he's waiting to hear if these will be done as an in- or out-patient. Needless to say he'll be off the bike for a while but has promissed he'll be back out again asap and passing us effortlessly on the hills again soon. Cheers SH
