Watched the points race from the SC offices on high and was willing you to make that final 10m gap! Good racing for your comeback.

I didn't know anything about it until today. Two members have sent me messages and I have now sent an email to the WoSTT league asking for more info.

Ian Manson - today, at the back of 11 on the track at Howwood - looking suitably bronzed after foreign sun,  amongst the milk white WoS knees otherwise on view!

Later, John and Rita in the cafe at Kilbirnie - great day for anyone lucky enough to be out on a bike!

    Hi Chris,

    Welcome along
I'm currently along from Beith in Glengarnock. There are a few of us up this way so you should've joined sooner!

Glad you mentioned you were getting your first road bike
Getting something nice? Has to be full carbon and full Super Record or Dura Ace if you want to fit in!!!

    Ok...maybe not!

Keep an eye out on the club runs section as it'll give you an idea on who's going where. Most runs tend to be on Sunday morning from Miller St in Johnstone where the clubrooms are, just off the cycle track. As you've mentioned the 30 Milers I'm guessing you've looked at some of that already.
Each group tends to go further or faster than the last although the middle Intermediates group regularly go just as far as the Main Bunch rides.
The 30 Milers can be the best place to learn to ride in a group as well.

Most importantly, all the groups have a café stop!!!

    See you soon

    Hello all,

Chris here from Paisley, originally from Beith.

Last year done approx 1,000-1,500 miles on my hybrid and will soon (Tomorrow) be picking up my first road bike.

Interested in joining you guys but concerned I'm not fit enough - may try the next 30 miler that pops up.  Last year done the Pedal 4 Scotland 47 miler leaving from the house - total of around 58 miles and felt like I could have went on.

Looking forward to meeting some of you guys and hopefully becoming a member of the club.

    Regards,
    Chris.

    Loads out and about today!

First Jann and Ian Manson on the track heading towards the clubrooms from Lochwinnoch,, quickly followed by the welcome sight of Ramsay (back on two wheels) and Elaine on the same route.

At the lochside cafe were John and Rita and Carol and Dave who had missed the bunch earlier.  After the cafe Carol, Dave and I joined forces for a bit, up the back road to Beith then back via Gateside, the rocky road and down Bowfield.

Thanks to them the company on a great day to be out on a bike

Thanks Paul! Yes, managed to pull out an 8th place finish in the national 25.

I wasn't really feeling great after a busy week and a couple of injury tweaks but decided to ride anyway. I've got a good warmup routine going so got set up and ready to go.

There are a few dragging hills on the course, and these are what I was worried about, but I managed to keep up a good 25-27mph on most of them, and also negotiated the 15 or so roundabouts at a good speed too so kept the average speed up nicely. I really enjoyed the downhill and tailwind bits and was flying along at between 31-36mph.

I came in at the end with a 53:52, a good two and a half minutes up on my PB, and I sat in the GSK social club in the lead untill the last seven, and in the end, fastest riders. I was quite close to Ben in 7th, and a minute off 4th so quite pleased with the result at the end!

Sitting in the strip nibbling a sandwich and sipping a coffee after a slightly tough TT. I was on the reserve list for today, and was vey glad to get a start after getting up so early and travelling to Stirling. Mike Ferguson and Emma McLaren also in attendance.

Minimal warm up but feeling good on the start line, this course is usually pretty tough for being almost horizontal, but the combination of headwind and slight rises on the way out brought the speed down to 18mph at one point! Caught my minute man in 10 minutes, 2 minute man Sandy Walkace at the turn and 4 minute at the finish line. Needless to say the return leg was slightly more fun than the first half, cruising about 32 mph, worst 28, best 36.2!!

Awaiting results and the ither two to return, trying to stay away from the rocky road

Hi, Ian. You may find the track rules document on the webpage above helpful (hopefully!) There are pointers on etiquette during open sessions and what's expected of riders during racing, too. There are a great many Glasgow track league riders who would benefit from 20 minutes spent reading this article followed by 20 minutes lying in a darkened room thinking about what they've read.

    Hi Ian

If it's the accredited ride sessions it is very much DIY. Numbers vary depending on time/day. Very often a pace line forms around the blue line with riders taking their turn at the front (generally 1 or 2 laps) and saying in as long as they want/can. Depends on riders of similar strength obviously. Sometimes there are groups of friends/clubmates doing Russian Steps. Equally individuals use the pursuit line for interval training then swing up an out the road to recover as any pace line passes by. Often there are sprinters practising too but essentially folk keep out of one another's road.

Generally the sessions work well and are very enjoyable. If there is no-one on after your session or the numbers are low, generally no-one chases you off. Great VFM - have fun!

    Iain
