all current shimano and shimano compatible wheels/freehub take 8/9/10 cogs. exception was 2007 ultegra WH6600 which was 10 only. short cage mech limit 27 teeth...new stuff 28t you can stick with your 13-25 no probs...good winter block that!! cheers

i'd advise against crank bros for mtb'ing as release angle is too extreme if you need out quick! 15 or 20 degrees dependant on which way round you put shoe plates. stick with spuds and use your brakes on those "fast" descents.

layers layers layers. base-long or short sleeve. bib shorts bib tights wind proof @knees a minimum short sleeve long sleeve- winter weight gilet (most are water repellant) cape in back pocket for emergencies thicker socks/slacker shoes skull cap under bunnet overshoes seal skin gloves(bees knees) you can alter zips for heat management. all of the above MUST be all your old gear coz thats what winters for innit? especially on mtb in winter! have fun
