2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted August 17, 2005 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted August 17, 2005 Hi everyone for those of you that have recently joined the club and also for those that haven't been before, I am in the process of arranging our annual trip to Arran. For the past few years a group have rode over to the ferry at Ardrossan (last year was an exception ) for a day of cycling and an evening of socialising, with a ride home the next day. This year we are going to stay in the youth hostel at Lochranza. The cost of this is about $12 (my pound key does not work!). So with ferry fares and some money for food and drink it shouldn't be too expensive. The trip is for the weekend of 1st/2nd october. All are welcome and folk can do as much or as little cycling as they please, so the distance shouldn't put folk off. Having said that, the mileage that the Sunday bunch is clocking up suggests that this won't be a problem. I intend to phone the Hostel this weekend, so all who wish to come please post here so that i can make sure there are enough beds available. cheers Darryl

David McKellar
Darryl put me down as going but what happened to the Auchrannie Hotel where we stayed last year Is the plan to cycle around Arran and get there using the 3 ferries like last year but a bit more organised than the force majeure we faced when the ferry was cancelled
2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted August 17, 2005 Author 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted August 17, 2005 Hi David glad to have you aboard the reason for the Youth Hostel is just for a change and to allow more to come along at a modest cost. The hostel at Lochranza is fine and the local hotel does food and beer, and there is another pub a short ride away! Plan is to ride to Ardrossan and then over to Lochranza - drop off any bags we have and then people have a choice as to what they wish to do. ie. a. no more cycling b. a half loof of the island c. a full loop of the island that way I thought we might cater for everyone Darryl

Tony
Darryl (doesn't this mean you will be unable to defend your title as club Hill-Climb champ....according to the Confined Events calendar it's on Sat 1st...) I may go to Arran just for the day, probably going over on Sunday morning and meeting up with everyone at some point. Thanks Tony
2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted August 17, 2005 Author 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted August 17, 2005 Thanks for that Tony, I hadn't noticed. Perhaps the powers that be would be willing to put it back a couple of weeks or bring it forward. cheers Darryl
David McKellar
Darryl I have gotten over my initial disapointment at not at not getting to stay at the Auchrannie Hotel again this year but in looking at the Lochranza youth hostel website I think it looks quite impressive. Come on all the Sunday bunch I recommend this weekend and there are no hills on Arran Have a look at the hostel website http://www.syha.org.uk/SYHA/web/site/Ho ... anzalarge3

Stephen Hickey
I'm working that weekend which is a real blow because this was a fantastic trip last year. Have a blast. No hills on Arran Dave? I'm sure it will seem that way this year without a rucksack on your back Cheers SH
2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted August 21, 2005 Author 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted August 21, 2005 Sorry you can't make it Steve, but very glad the old Pannieria Team will be back in action So that's Darryl Scott Alan Y Ian M Dougie Martin Mulholland David McKellar Simon Simpson and a couple of other definitely maybes I'll book either tonight or tomorrow, but that shouldn't preclude anyone coming along on a last minute decision But just to be clear about this, it is NOT a trainig camp or a race, it's a social event for anyone that cares to come along. It has become a bit of a tradition over recent years and everyone always enjoys it. A great chance to get to know folk, talk about exploits on the bike and to hatch plans for the following year. All welcome Darryl
