2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted August 26, 2013 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted August 26, 2013 Hi All I'm trying to get a pair of road tyres for Rob's Isla bike. Size is 24 x 1" (ish). Trouble is I'm having a bit of difficulty sourcing any. Can anyone help, either with tyres or a recommendation and a source? Thanks Darryl

2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted August 26, 2013 Author 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted August 26, 2013 Thanks George. Not the cheapest though - £32 each for Schwalbe

KennyS
Have you called Islabikes themselves? Sometimes the sizes are awkward to get elsewhere and I alway found their replacement part service for their bikes first class

I had seen this but hesitated when I saw their warning that there are 2 24 x 1 sizes. May just take a chance.

2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted August 26, 2013 Author 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted August 26, 2013 Darryl, there will be a metric size on the original tyre There is but it is nothing like the one quoted by in Richard's link. They are all supposed to be 24" and yet with the metric sizing you have all sorts of different diameters. Strange.

Lots of different tyre sizes - I've found the only way to be sure is to use the ERTRO number quoted on the side of the tyre. (Like the 23-540 in Richard's ebay example). Which ones did you go for? I've found the schwalbes to be very good, if pricey.
Members Richard
What does it say on your current tyre/rim? Failing that, measure the circumference of the rim and then compare your measurement to the values in this table to see what you're dealing with. http://sheldonbrown....rim-sizing.html
2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted August 27, 2013 Author 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted August 27, 2013 Current tyres are cross and the ETRO number is way bigger than the ones I've ordered. Hoping that the Kendas I've got him are ok. Schwalbe a bit too pricey. Cheers Guys
Committee Alan McLean Posted August 29, 2013 Committee Report Share Posted August 29, 2013 I got replacement 24s from Islabike and they blew off the rim cos they were about 1mm too big. ETRO sschemtro, didn't work. Islabike blamed the manufacturer but all the numbers matched. Some weird sizing going on so I suggest you check the bead is well seated before allowing young rider on. Committee Alan McLean Posted August 29, 2013 Committee Report Share Posted August 29, 2013 Islabike replaced without quibble. Top marks.
