  1. 26th September sees our first planned Whole club run of the year. Meeting at Amaretto’s in Bridge of Weir, riders will set of in mixed capability groups round the coast to Largs, first bunch off at 09:30. The route will be up the cycle track to Port Glasgow, over the wall and down the Whin, then round the coast from there, riding at the pace of the slowest rider in the bunch. Sufficient numbers should see multiple groups of 12 to 16 riders, around 5 minutes apart. Once we know the numbers, it’s probably a good idea to let the Bagel Basket know that a number of cyclists will be turning looking for sustenance. After the Bagel Basket, riders are welcome to revert to their normal groups and choose their own route back to home or Amaretto’s. I will need a number of bunch leaders on the day to keep the bunches together. I will not be attending this ride as I’m away for a week. I am also aware that this is the September weekend, and large numbers may be away, so if there is a strong preference, I am happy to slide this run to 10th October.
  2. The second attempt to run the hill climb practice ahead of the club championship on 3rd October. 6:15 meet for 6:30 off, I will timekeep at one end and I need another volunteer for the other end. Lots of riders would be good as well, and don’t forget, it’s only £2 entry for 2 minutes of sweaty breathless fun. Lights are highly recommended for the run home afterwards.
  3. So bad weather stopped play last night.
  4. Only 2 ish riders for this tonight. Who else is up for it?
  5. Absolutely brilliant run out today. Bunch was: me Matty Garry Kenny (aka Jean) Dave Cathcart Frank ian Carvill Ali Crichton Mark Cushley Fabulous run into darkest Ayrshire, with lots of up involved, and beer at the end. Not a patch on the 30 milers though…….
  6. There are some minor variations, but essentially the same. Make sure you have the right size of drift and presser
  7. Anyone up for a spin down to Transmitter Hill this Sunday. Forecast is for dry, but cool. 9:30 at the clubrooms. Route is bowfield, Stewarton, Fenwick, Moscow, Galston and back. Cafe stop at Stewarton on the way back. Route options after that.
  9. Checking back against times from 2 years ago, the I team were a full 45 seconds faster than the last event, and Sam and James time would easily have won 2 years ago. Good to see the standard going up
  10. The next couple of events are for the mountain goats, yes , it’s the hill climb at Elliston Castle in Howwood. 6:30 meet for 6:45 off, I will need another volunteer for timekeeping, as I will do one the timekeepers.( we need 2, one at the start, one at the finish.). I would also recommend that all riders have front and rear lights, for the ride home. Post up if you’re coming along. Entry fee for the hill climb is £2, since it’s only a short effort. Where else can you have so much fun for around £1 a minute?
  11. Congrats to Ian and Iain for a quick time (and the win) on a lovely evening, and a big well done to Sam and James on another blistering sub 16. In terms of the David Raymond Trophy, I’ll need the best 10 time set in the last three years for Sam, James and Team Gunson, who also produced a brilliant sub 17 time on their first TT for a while. I think I have times for everyone else. Iain Couttie pulled out with a mechanical? so Geo had to run solo. I have transferred £27 to club funds. Amd finally, thanks to Dave F for timekeeping and to Kenny for providing welcome support at the turn.
  12. Well done to the team for a third place today, not helped by drama before the start. As predicted, my own time didn’t count towards the finish, but I did have the prettiest bike of the wheelers.
  13. There has been an official team photo in previous years, normally about 20 minutes before the first rider in the team goes off. This year is no different. Team photo at 10:35.
  14. The final club confined Time Trial event of the season, where there are 2 trophies up for grabs. The first is the David Raymond trophy, a handicapped event based on the difference between the average 10 mile pace and the actual pace of the team members on the night. The other trophy is for the fastest pair on the night. In the event of the same pair winning both trophies, then the David Raymond trophy will go to the second placed couple in the handicapped event, under the ‘one rider, one trophy’ guideline. Anyway, 6:30 meet for 6:45 off. Post up if you’re coming along, and also confirm your teammate. And can I have a volunteer to timekeep please.
  15. 2 pairs and 2 single riders on a cool evening. Gerard D paid and Alan T, paid, 17:39 Geo paid and Iain Couttie, 17:07 Scott M paid x3 17:55 Ian A, paid, 16:17 Thanks to Dave Cowan for timekeeping tonight I have transferred £21 to the club account
  16. Nope. I’ve got the wahoo kickr smart, which does the job, but was maybe a bit more expensive than those when I bought it.
  17. Great run out today. Burst by the end, but still enjoyed it. Thanks for the tow round after the cafe stop.
  18. Huge thanks to Ian McT for timekeeping and to David Cowan for marshalling at the turn. Congrats to Ian for the win on the day. No PBs on today’s course, since we turned before Houston, but didn’t seem to make it any less hard. The gentle spin back to Amaretto’s for coffee and rolls was very welcome. I have transferred £15 to the club account.
  19. Episode 2 of the 2 up TTS on the Georgetown Road, 18:30 meet for 18:45 off. We can also use this time for anyone who needs a practice run on the Georgetown ahead of the Georgetown cup. I will need a volunteer to timekeep. post up if you’re coming along, and if you have a partner. As last week, I need at least three pairs to make this worthwhile. This is the last opportunity for a practice run before the 2up championship on 7th September.
  20. We’ve got a volunteer to Marshall at the turn, so it’s as advertised, 09:45 meet for 10:00 off, 10-ish miles, lots of up involved. And afterwards, there will be cake, because we are athletes.
  21. Thanks for volunteering. Having just checked the road out, it is still closed. Given that the closure is right at a crossroads, we will need a Marshall there to ensure rider safety.. The alternative to having a dead turn is to cancel the event, but I’m not keen on doing that. So assume the event is on.
