  1. Another tough night in the Bs - first up 40 lap points, race passed me by a bit although was comfortable enough (at least relatively speaking was still tough). Next 16 lap scratch, it opened up a bit and i was tempted into start the sprint with 5 laps to go, i was dieing with about 2 laps to go and then finished off by the bell. Last was 32 lap scratch, a hard pace but quite steady too - was a single line string for most of it and everyone putting in a hard effort for their turn on the front, eased up slightly with about 4 laps to go and someone went off the front and i went too caught up and overtook but couldnt hold on and was pipped for 3rd on the line, all that effort for nothing! Good fun though - always nice to be in a warm velodrome when the weather is miserable. btw Richard i asked a few weeks ago about the locker / cage situation and was told they would be available again before Christmas but dont see any evidence of that yet, they are still all empty.
  2. Back in the Bs this week (or B1 as there were 2 B groups). First up 16 lap scratch, went with 4 laps to go but my legs went on the back straight and i got swamped. Next a 40 lap 'silent' points race, was comfortable enough in the group but didnt contest any sprints. Next was a combined devil / scratch race with 2 riders being eliminated every 4 laps. Sounded fun but confusing too. Unfortunately didnt get to enjoy it as was eliminated in the first round getting boxed in, hadnt had time to break into a sweat yet!
  3. For what its worth i was a bit surprised to see the average speed when i got home - it was about 18mph from the clubrooms. We dont often do much more than that even during the summer. A quick look at my Garmin Connect suggests ive only been on a couple Sunday club runs that have been faster this year - Dunoon via Arrochar in June and Largs last month.
  4. Hard to believe it is the last day of November with weather like today, some good winter miles - just enough to get the Strava gran fondo challenge completed
  5. Found that tough today, struggled big time in the second half. Eventually legs totally went on the run towards Barcraigs reservoir. Averaged about 12 mph from there to Paisley. And thats including the Bowfield descent!
  6. Think it was the ferry to Campbeltown then back from there sounded like a great ride. Probably about 120 miles. Would definitely be up for doing a night time club run like that or over to Cowal around the longest day.
  7. Demoted to the Cs tonight. A few others were too including Richard Warnock from GGCC. If Scottish Cycling ever bothered to update the league table he would be the highest placed B rider as he regularly wins a couple of races each week! In the end end he didnt bother racing at all. First up 40 lap points, sprints every 10. Strategy was to go for the first points and then try a breakaway, was either 1st or 2nd but the breakaway attempts didnt work so ended up going for the final sprint, was sitting great on second wheel and we had small gap to the riders behind as the bell went. But there were riders being lapped and riding 3 abreast as if it was a leisurely spin so we had to stall the sprint to get around them and that allowed some others to catch. Ended up having to settle for 3rd in that sprint. That was a little annoying so on the Devil wanted to stay out of trouble so rode it from the front and managed to defend the position and ended up winning. Last was 25 lap scratch, attempted a few attacks but nothing stuck, got caught behind someone who lost the wheel in front with 4 laps to go, managed to close the gap but had nothing left for the sprint. Have to say enjoyed the Cs, overall its probably not much slower than the Bs the biggest difference is in the surges, but the difference meant i be a bit more 'active' in the races than i am in the Bs where it often feels like hanging on. I should probably have riden a bit more sensibly rather than attempting daft attacks, but where is the fun in that?
  8. Looks good, what puts me off is that with a 9pm start there could be hours of waiting about for the ferry afterwards.
  9. Yeah great weather. Found the first 20 or so miles pretty tough as i was pushing quite hard trying to catch the bunch not realising i was ahead - Was thankful of having a few wheels to follow after Gourock, i was sure i was going to be arriving in Largs just as everyone was leaving the bagel basket!
  10. Think it was 6 wheelers out today and in some respects a ride of two halves - drizzle and rain until Largs then sun from them on. Didnt struggle quite as much after West Kilbride this time although i think that was because the pace was a bit steadier rather than any improvements ive made. Well done to Charlie taking the sprint into Largs, held off Paul who had to do an impressive Sagan / Freire style effort after being boxed in!
  11. Bit of a rejigging of the groups tonight with an A, 2 B, C and Youths. Not quite sure the purpose sounds more like a rebranding of existing groups! Anyway first up 25 lap points, sprints every 5. Got a 3rd and a 4th, first time ive managed to get points in 2 of the sprints but not enough. Next a scratch i was doing ok for most of the race but was nowhere when it mattered. Finally a 40 lap points, 2 of us got away early on and i think i managed to get the first sprint but it was tight on the line then another couple caught up and we were working together stayed out for a few laps another 3 caught us coming into the sprint and i missed out on that one but we continued to work and it felt like we might be able to stay away. Things however got a bit chaotic when we caught up with some lapped riders - there was a split in the break and i was the wrong side and we couldnt get back on. For once i dont think it was a result of bad positioning either just one of those things.
  12. Sorry to hear, hope the surgery goes well
  13. If i remember correctly it is still possible to pay by cheque or cash, the British Cycling method was introduced as it is more secure rather than have the clubs bank details on the forum and it also makes things a bit easier for maintaining the membership list (it is automatic this way). I might be wrong but i dont think you need to be a British Cycling member to renew using their site.
  14. Sorry to hear about the crash! If you have any road rash to go with the damaged kit then would recommend some hydrocolloid dressing, it is pretty effective.
  15. At the AGM it was mentioned that it is now possible to get membership via BritishCycling, i think this is the link https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/club/profile?&club_id=589
  16. Dont know if you've seen this before, if not it might be of interest http://cyclingtips.com.au/2014/02/cam-and-richies-excellent-adventure/
  17. Tough night to make your return! The first scratch race was the fastest ive seen in the Bs at just under 30 mph average if you discount the rollout lap. No idea what made me think trying to get in the breakaway was a good idea! After that my legs were done. Points race, big effort for the sprint after 40 laps only to get pipped on the line for 4th which was rather disappointing! Final scratch was a bit better was reasonably positioned towards the end and went with 4 laps to go but that was 2 laps too much.
  18. rear hub is making a racket so wont make it out today
  19. Was relegated to the Cs initially but shortly after that i got another email saying i was back in the Bs. First up 50 lap points, pretty uneventful until 9 laps to go where i attacked thinking someone would come with me, but no-one did. Got about a half lap in front and maintained it for a bit but couldnt push on, bell went and managed to get the points at least. Next 25 lap scratch, same story different week - too far back, kept being the wrong side of riders chucking it and pulling out so having to close gaps and eventually i couldnt close it down anymore and just hung off the back of the group about 10 m. Last was 30 lap, tried to make the race hard rather than ride it in such a way that it is only hard for me! It was working ok until 4 laps to go, there was a lull in the pace then an attack which i couldnt respond to quick enough. So end result was nothing but it was a much more enjoyable race at least. Would have been nice to have won something to justify my place in the Bs, but it wasnt to be.
  20. Tough day for me, legs still heavy after yesterday but even accounting for that it was a surprisingly tough route particularly with the road up to Rowardennan being alot lumpier than i remember it. It was however very scenic up Loch Lomond side with the sun out and the last of the autumn leaves on show. Well done Adam, if you continue your rapid progress it wont be long until you are putting the hurt on all of us!
