  1. Great route on quiet roads, well run event, hills upon hills upon hills. Catering of Drumlanrig standard! Andrew and I managed to stay with Darryl and Foxy until about the 70 mile mark when the hills started to take their toll. If Darryl's Garmin map is correct it looks like without our steadying influence they decided to add a few extra unofficial miles to visit Hawick! Gala CC are keen that we rate their event. http://www.cyclosport.org/event/22-Jun-2014/UK/braw-lads-baw-breaker.html
  2. Alan AndrewD and I have just entered this event. Unfortunately I did it before seeing your message about Al's available entry! Allan

    behaviour on forums

While not disagreeing with Iain or Richie that the forum is generally civilised, I think a key point of George's post was the reminder that this is a public forum and we all need to consider what we say and how we say it and the impact on outside viewers and specifically prospective members.

    Thanks

Well done Billy. I bought you a bottle of St Emilion to thank you for your help over the winter.... it was excellent!
  5. Good luck Alan rather you than me!

    Main Bunch Rides

Mark, out of interest this is how Lomond Roads post their club runs... http://www.lomondroadscyclingclub.org.uk/runs_list.html Nothing particularly new in term of routes but quite a clear way of communicating what's happening over a reasonable time period.

Bill Thomson in Tarbert today around 12,30 just off the ferry from Portavadie on his solo 5 ferries run. Looking fitter than men half his age!

Myself, AndrewD and another friend just back from two days from Dunoon up round Loch Awe and back via Tarbert with Dave Moss of Tearfund Cycling and friends, 112 miles day 1 and 80 miles days 2. Cream crackered! Great hostel, Torran Bay, at the foot of Loch Awe. Have a great run tomorrow and work hard for coach Billy!

Off tomorrow for a couple of days cycling Dunoon, Oban, Loch Awe, Lochgilphead area, including Al's route, with the Tearfund people so won't make Sunday. Have a good one.
  10. Mark I'll time my cycle home from work to make this.
  11. The cycle across London was quite interesting and avoided the subway hassle. There's a paved cycle path along a canal that heads east for a good part of the journey, then onto one of Boris super cycle highways. Good fun.
  12. Al/Tom I went to/from London by Virgin west coast train for last years event and it worked well. Things to note: - you can only book the train 13 weeks in advance - bikes travel free and have to be booked separately - only room for 4 bikes on each train, so get n quick I stayed in an apartment in he east end. One bedroom, two beds, small kitchen and lounge. Meant I could eat to suit and keep bike in room. Marlin Apartments, Stratford. Staying in the east end worked well. Registration is in the east and it took 3 mins to get to the start. I cycled across London from Euston to the apartments with my backpack, around 10 miles. The organisers take your bag from the start to the finish, which is 10 mins cycle from Euston. Worth spending time drinking free beer and listening to bands at the park at he end. I watched the end of the pro event before going for train. Great event, fast course, minimal hills and good two days in London.
  13. Great day yesterday at Drumlanrig. The organisers Rolf & Dave and all their helpers are really appreciative of the Wheelers support over the years. Their Fort William Lochaber 100 event is just as good as Drumlanrig with a fantastic route and even more home baking to wade through. Plenty of B&Bs, caravan parks & camping for the Friday night to bring a social element to the trip! Saturday 6 September 2014 http://www.tearfundcycling.btck.co.uk/Lochaber100
  14. Foxy, McGinty, AndrewD and me aiming to leave Elderslie around 6.30, pick up some bacon rolls and coffee along the way and arrive Drumlanrig 8/8.15.
  15. Seeing as how you got a PB at the TT tonight...donation made!

    West highland way

Billy Are you sure you've thought this through? http://www.cycle-route.com/forum/Scotland-West-Highland-Way-Thread-467.html http://www.cyclistno1.co.uk/features/rides/riding-the-west-highland-way-double.htm Most people take 2 to 4 days, spend around 1/3 of the time pushing or carrying their bikes for 1/4 of the distance and either carry big loads or have a support vehicle with clothes, food and spares. Sounds harder than Paris Roubaix! Other than that it sounds fun...in a devil may care, suicidal way! Ideal treatment too for a hernia I believe.
  18. I did the Kinross Sportive today 90 miles and 6,500 ft of climbing, am well into the recovery beers and the legs refuse to go out tomorrow. Have a great run.
  19. If you decide to go for Monday evenings then I'm happy to volunteer. I have an existing coach but he's a sadist!
