  1. Neil says: "Hi James, that will be up to Scottish Cycling and SCX. Walkers Cycling Club will not be able to host the event this year, and I think that January will be too long after the Scottish CX Season for most, so we'll have to wait and see. Cheers Neil" Does not look hopeful. James
  2. Hi All, Just received the following email: "It is with regret that following discussions with SCX and Scottish Cycling we have taken the decision to cancel Sunday's Cyclocross Championships at Irvine due to the extreme weather conditions affecting the bulk of Scotland. Ironically Ayrshire is about the only place with no road closures etc , and the course is excellent fun in the show, but obviously the rest of the country is suffering, and travel would not have been safe. Further information relating to the cancellation, and an official statement will be posted on www.scottishcycling.org.uk as soon as possible. Hopefully see you all on Mull next weekend. Neil Walker Walkers Cycling Club" James
  3. Hi What do you want for Christmas Helena said? I answered that a subscription to a bike magazine would be nice. But then I thought, I don't know many bike magazines. Does anyone have any suggestions for a magazine that covers road and cyclocross and what ever else I am likely to do in the club? Something that has a regular article in it on buying a bike would be good. I bought a book recently called "Bicycle Maintenance" 184 pages of tutorial and expert advice which has proved quite useful. Cheers James
  4. I am gutted. I hope they see sense. They should be encouraging cycling. Here is me cycling to work trying to get fit for these events as well. Makes you wonder. I feel like orgainising a protest. James

  6. One other thought, is there any interest in having a Sunday afternoon run in addition to the am run? Not suggesting people would do both but that may be possible. James
  7. Hi, my concern would not be the mileage so much as how fast you will go. If you cycle as a bunch then do you go at the slowest pace or do you all go flat out and wait for the slowcoach to catch up at the cafe stop? I like the idea of a pre-planned route. That way if I was to miss the start then perhaps I could drive to the cafe stop and join in there. James
  8. I am up for the mountainbiking but it would need to be the afternoon. I realise that may not be convenient so maybe meet up with you some other time. James
  9. Bah! Why did I not see this message when it was posted? This is just what I have been asking for. I don't suppose there is any coaching going on anywhere this late in the season. Am I right in thinking that we only have 2 races left (and I don't think I can enter Irvine with my bronze license)? Regards James
  10. Message on the http://www.scottishcyclocross.org.uk/20 ... elled.html website reads Bellahouston Cross Race cancelled It reads "Brian Skinner has just been in touch to say that he is having to cancel Sundays race as the Council are going to need him to reinstate any damage to the park and it could be an open bill with large bond required as well. It is with much regret that he is doing this but he feels that he could be financially ruined if the event goes ahead. I will get a contact email address in the council to complain to and if you live in Glasgow complain to your local councillors. " So it looks like Kings Park or nothing! Regards James
  11. Hi, I have a question about this forum. Ok, I have more than one, but the one I am concerned about is this: I have 2 messages in my Private Message Outbox that I have written. I would have thought that if they were in the Outbox, then they have not been sent, and if they have not been sent, why not? Can anyone help please? Thanks, James
  12. Hey, I hope I did not hold you guys up too much! I did appreciate the push up one of the hills from number 10 Kevin somebody. James
  13. Alan, you look to have done a good time. 20th seems very impressive. Er, how much faster was that to my time? Yes, I need to do something about getting a bike, but which one? James
  14. Thanks to all concerned. Great night with a very big surprise, complete with moving build up! Thanks Kenny (would appreciate some warning next time!). Lots of laughs on the dance floor. James
  15. Hi Alan Hamish and I have now entered. I was not sure that we could enter in advance but I found the website http://www.entrycentral.com/index.php and it was comparatively easy. Now I just need to get my bike ready. Looking forward to it. I Understand that it is not knobbly tyres but tracks that are required! James
  16. Is it not possible to get accessory fixing points to attach to a bike? I thought I had seen chrome points on some bikes.
  17. Hi, I will take a ticket for myself and one for young Hamish. Thanks, James
  18. Hi, Aldi now have their Crane Sport MTB cycling shoes reduced from £19.99 to £14.99 - several sizes in stock. If you fit studs to them then you might be as well to buy 2 pairs as I have just returned my pair with the front part of the soles ripped off! Also, I have a pair of Diadora Aero MTB SPD MTB Shoes size 8 EU 42 RRP £80 Grey, New with tags - for sale at £25 let me know if interested on 07946999302 Regards James
  19. Hi, It looks like my son Hamish is going to be involved with cycling for a few years to come. So, if I am going to be involved, I think I need to improve my wheels somewhat. Since the cyclocross season is so short, should I choose a bike that I can use for club runs and for cyclocross events? What should I look for? Don't see much point in buying new (rather not spend all that cash) when there are lots of secondhand bikes for sale. How can I work out what size of bike to buy? Any advise on this subject will be gratefully received. James
  20. Hi Not a bad set of results then for the Jets. (If you highlight the yellow invisible ink then it becomes visible ). I actually thought that Lusia Steele was going well in her class. Were there many Jets competing last year, or is this the first year that the Club has entered in force? James
  21. I don't beleeve it!!!! What does it say again......... "Most stylish rider over the hurdles this week goes to James MacLaren (Johnstone Wheelers) who seemed to clear these with ease." That is a brilliant photo of Lewis!! Did I look like this? Where is my photo James
  22. Well, that is the vets results out now at http://scottishcyclocross.hexten.net/SC ... lease3.pdf Not that I have anything to shout about What do you have to do to get better at this game? posted by Anon
  23. 2 of us planning to go to Mugdock on Sunday. Not sure about the Khyber Pass. Think I might need directions for that one! When are you going? Another lesson learnt from Sunday - don't throw out your helmet chip before the results are finalised. I now have to rake through my bin to find it or I may not be on the results board! James
  24. Hi guys thanks for the replies. Looking forward to it. Regards James
