  1. Hi Alan, If you have a Praxis Shimano adaptor going spare (or even for a modest fee) I will be in vicinity of Amarettos tomorrow p.m. Threaded rod and big washers prep'd and ready for the press, just need to bodge out the existing PF30's. D
  2. Chung, Just when I'd made a decision to go PF30 you have put doubts in my head......as for carbon CX frames with threaded BB I was coveting one of these for a while... http://alanbike.it/en/cross-gravel/ Not much scope for UK sales and have the dreaded thru' axle factor. When I bought the X-night the master-plan was to run bog standard Hollowtech cranks on single ring with Praxis convertor. I should have followed my 1st instincts and saved myself some swithering. Praxis plus Hollowtech it is..... sorted! I'm sure I can upgrade to Rotor cranks somewhere along the line. Cheers, Davie
  3. Cheers chaps, I have resisted the BB30/PF30 route for a while now as it smacks of being yet another solution to a problem which did not exist, but really no choice if I wanted a carbon frame - it was hard enough getting one without thru' axles. The Praxis convertors do seem to get rave reviews and do look like a properly engineered solution rather than a sticking plaster. Will probably run with the PF30's for a while but may need to buy decent crankset. The Rotor jobs look cracking and are lightweight but again complexity built in as they have a universal fit i.e. they fit practically any BB with the right spacers and threaded adjustment - it's a bike for goodness sake! If I go for SRAM I commit to long term PF30 use. More swithering beckons.....
  4. FSA cranks are off the X-night but swithering whether to switch over for another BB30 crankset - SRAM or Rotor or as I have fears regarding the PF30 bearings life expectancy may use Praxis BB convertor to run existing Shimano cranks. All the forums panning the PF30 type bearings seem at least 3 years old so don't know if they are that bad plus cranks are easy to remove for clean and regular packing with grease. Anybody got any experience with PF30 bearings and grim road conditions /cyclocross life expectancy?
  5. Nah...rollers in garage for me.
  6. Weather looks best of a bad bunch for the week with weather warnings in place Friday onwards. Maybe out if not too bad.
  7. Due to x-night build, still have three WIP bike builds on-going so looking for mudguard concession. If dry hope to meet you on the track.
  8. Looking like it's turning mild...
  9. Whit?....anybody get a place?
  10. Would love to join you but you know the story....you would get extra points for dedication if you went up, raced, & back down on the same day!
  11. No the Hungary one was a cracker and was actually pro spec being the SL model and not the standard x-night, it is about 200g lighter. Got a decent price online at UK shop, hopefully get in the next day or so. It will have the "done in 60 minutes" graphic on the seat tube which even I would hope to be able to achieve in a scheduled 40 minute race!
  12. The Doonbank one opens 1st December at 19:00hrs so be quick. I am tempted to try and get a start to give me something to focus on I figure the cycling part should be risk free by then and it is only any running which may require a bit of caution. Nothing to lose I suppose. X-night is in transit - I hope the blooming thing fits.
  13. In many respects, not least cycling, the leg is the straw that broke the camels back so pretty cheesed off right now. Still there is Xmas to look forward to........bah humbug! Walking better now and some indication it is just a minor tear so will maybe think about some of the races late January time if I can get on the bike in the next week or so even for a wee run. No sign off my x-night yet so probably just waiting for the mail to 'till me that they can't find one.
  14. Paul, Have you put your name on the waiting list? The way you are riding you should get a start if it is like last years Dig in at the Dock where reserve places were granted based on attendance and form.
  15. Paul ...you will know all about hurt when you are so bored you start watching Tipping Point and actively look forward to The Chase. The Dark Destroyer is taking a pounding right now so should be a thrilling finale. At this rate I may end up being able to use Facebook......
  16. Schadenfreude Nae luck Paul. Mull, I'm sure it will be an absolutely & fantastically brilliant day for you and the rest of the racers.
  17. Paul, It would be more than a frame repair needed if I was pit b***ching for you......
  18. Aye rub it in.....the reality of hobbling about for the foreseeable is starting to kick in now. Have bought 2016 non-thru axle x-night so at least may have a project to keep me busy as it is 60D variant so the FSA crapset and mechanical disks will need swapped out.
  19. Great and fun course, ride it if you can.
  20. Billy, At A & E they thought I had separated the calf muscle on the interior side - but it is hard for them to tell exactly what. Have been given gentle stretching exercises to carry out to stop muscles contracting too much after any damage. After that it is just rest and recovery for as long as it takes with 6 to 8 weeks being an estimate. Would be daft for me to try and rush back in the New Year. Extremely frustrating but excrement happens I guess. My main concern is if it will always be a weak point in the future but that type of knowledge is beyond my pay grade. Cheers Darryl - it's a mere scratch compared to your wounds! Davie
  21. Thanks for the best wishes chaps. No chance for me for any of the races in the New Year so the comeback target is the 2017 Three Peaks.
  22. Cheers Paul and second that about the mighty McLean ...though last lap off camber skills could be improved
