  1. allan,

there a few who dabble in triathlon but not part of the club structure. forum thread mainly an opportunity to avoid it cluttering people's timelines I suspect.

Main tri club in the area is probably Fusion, swimming mainly at scotstoun several times per week and running and cycling around glasgow. It caters for novice up to and including commonwealth games entrants. Marc Austin held onto the Brownlee brotheres for most of the swim and cycle before fading during the run.

There was a greenock based tri club but don't think it kept going.

    cheers

  2. Aristotle McDonald once said 'the best achievements are those which are very hard and which may require a few attempts to get there'

Anyway me, Colin, Alan and Greg set off in pursuit of the double, a 101 miler which comprised 2 laps over the Ross. Bit of a severe opener up the drag from Brodick then the Ross within 10 miles. Over the top the entertainment started with first Greg locking a back wheel, then Colin running off into the grass then me locking a back wheel !

Greg then had an mechanical which delayed us a couple of minutes. Then we got real stuck in. Colin decided to break off over the String for the next ferry whilst the 3 of us blasted up the West coast at 29-30 mph with a nice tailwind. The final 10 miles of lap 1 were into a strong headwind so with much relief we completed lap one and stopped at our picnic stash for a couple of mins refuelling and bottle filling. Upon restarting Greg had an injury situation which was a blow as he was a powerhouse during lap 1.

Alan and I got horsed into it for a second lap. The Ross is sore the first time, the second time it was, well I'd rather not remember it. We got to the decision point at Machrie after 75 miles and with 26 miles left and 90 mins to do it. We decided to go for the 10 mile route back over the String due to being unsure if we could manage 17mph average for the next 90 mins given the state of our legs, the Lochranza climb and the roaring headwind finish.

Conclusion is definetly doable double. Second lap would need at least 4 or more evenly matched riders all on a good day.

Many thanks to the chaps for indulging my dream. I will do the double one day even if I have to pay some sherpa style domestiques ! Had the fun of descending the String and hitting 52.2 mph which is a tad short of the wind favourable 56mph I hit one time.

Cheers, until the next recruitment campaign

    Ohyadancer!

in terms of domestiques, i believe a certain B Wiggins will be free most of July. He is bound to want to help, always a willing man on the front, as long as you are from Isle of Man and tuck your elbows in when you climb.

  3. Thomson's get a good name check, no problem in my book.

Just wondered, can we not get a club name on the shorts, JWCC or johnstone wheelers somewhere.

I like the JWCC logo, shame not to see it on either the jersey or shorts.

Disclaimer: I know nothing about style. I also realise this may be too late.

Alan, crack open a cold one for me too. Already got my coat.

  4. mark,

is it not possible to open all options that people have expressed and see if they reach five? There are likely to be some who will order but have not yet shown their hand I would guess. If the ladies kit was an option on the store and did not reach five then ok, if it is not an option, it will never reach five.

I may well be missing the point but it appears that having the option may give the chance of getting the items you want, if it is not even up there, then no chance. Is there a downside of having an option open and not filled, is there a charge?

    Lastly, thanks Mark, good work

  5. Alan,

The intention is to have the club store open this week W/C 3rd March. Short notice I know but I did post previously that my goal was to have everything in place for the start of March with delivery early April - Delivery times are 5 weeks at present. You could ask a fellow member to order for you and square up with them.

Fret not if you miss this, we can open up the store again at any time the only restriction is the total club spen is £200 in order to avoid admin charges. Something we should be able to do easily.

do we get to see the design, not that it will make any difference to me ordering?

planning on ss jersey and shorts, medium, ascent or maybe summit if an option

  6. mark,

that all sounds good. Will it be obvious to the punter (me) if I am ordering an item that has not reached the required number and may not be delivered? That seems to be the main concern I would have thought.

If not obvious to me, will you be able to tell?

The skinsuits need to be the same quality and not just short or long sleeve to be counted as a five.

    Have I understood this correctly?

    Cheers

  8. Afternoon All,

The fit kit has now arrived from Owayo. It is a mixed collection, shorts, jerseys, jackets and skinsuits and probably sufficient to meet our needs in terms of sizing. The material appears to be the same across most of what I've been sent through. I, however, have fabric sample panels for your perusal.

We have this box of goodies for 10 days before I'm required to return it to Owayo. So to allow people to come have a look and try on I will be at the clubrooms on Saturday morning 10 -12 noon, and on Tuesday evening from around 6.30 pm onwards til 9. This ties in nicely with the times when we'll be working on the clubrooms so you can have a go at that too.

For those who can't make these times I will do my best to accommodate you, but I have a life too. PM me if you need preferential treatment. If you wish to try on the available shorts/skinsuits it may be an idea to wear a pair of cycling shorts to the clubrooms or bring some with you.......just saying like.

As with the Pactimo evening on Thursday, please post up your comments on this brand of clothing. This is your club kit and I'm determined to secure club kit which best meets the needs of as many of you as possible when recommending a suppier to the committee.

    Cheers

    Mark

    Mark,

Since you have seen and presumably tried on both sets of kit, do you have a preference and is there is significant difference in terms of price and range of items available from Owayo compared to Pactimo?

I have seen and tried on neither so far.

    Cheers

    Duncan
