  1. I'm okay for Friday. Just been on the phone to NTL to cancel my contract and have also hid MrsS' mobile. Can now leave the house on Friday night without the fear of returning to bankruptcy Can I just say to anybody who would like to go to Arran and feels a little bit shy or worried, that they should clear their diaries. Last year's trip was one of the best weekends I've ever had socially or on the bike. A fantastic group of guys and some hard hills but the camaraderie was superb and the support for the slightly overweight, slow one in the group was fantastic KennyS
  2. Not too sure about this Friday, Darryl ..... it's the final of Big Brother
  3. Count me in too. Martin already has me working on my seven week training plan Would prefer the first weekend in October as the second weekend is the start of the school holidays. Not fussed on accomodation but a lengthy discussion over a curry is certainly in order to discuss logistics KennyS
  4. 5. Following on from the earlier posts I’d just like to say a big thanks to all who helped me through my first event as ‘The Organiser’ Big Harry Advice and yarns of days gone by Joyce McK For all her help with the catering on the day. If you think you’re fast on wheels you should see this lady doing her trolley dash around Asda Martin and Allison Turning back the clock and checking out all the lay-bys in Argyll in an old transit van as well as helping with the Big Top Marquee Iain Lang Invaluable help on the day with the signing-in and out of riders as well as the marquee Tom Higgins Wonder hands at the end of a hard day on the bike. Thanks also to the TLI for covering this event, Asda Linwood in helping feed the hordes of riders and a big, big thanks to Western Ferries for their continuous and extremely generous support in getting everyone from one side of the Clyde to the other On a wet, overcast morning 47 riders set off round the route at variation pace and in varying conditions. By the time they boarded the ferry the sun was shining for the final leg home with food and drink awaiting them. The outlay on this year’s event was slightly higher than what may have been in the past but the figure raised for the Erskine Hospital this year is almost £450 Well done and a big thanks again to all involved whether helping or riding Gang forward! - with Scotland's greatest and friendliest cycling club Cheers, KennyS
  6. As those who were on the Century Ride today will know Harry was hit by a car on the roundabout entering Erskine Hospital The news tonight is that Harry has two broken vertebrae, one broken plus one dislocated bone in his forearm as well as a fair bit of road rash and a mangled bike He is having an operation tomorrow to fix up his arm and is in Ward 22 at the RAH in Paisley if anyone's passing. He is expected to be there until at least Tuesday KennyS
  7. Keep it going big chap. You'll need to go some to meet the start at Erskine on Sunday morning Enjoying reading about you're adventures but why not use internet cafes to update your blog instead of lugging the desktop PC around in those panniers
  8. Latest news on the Erskine Century Ride is that there will be a Masseur (recomended personally by Dougie Da Rosa) at the finish who will be giving rub-downs for a few quid. A nice wee leg loosener for those just back from up north. If you're still looking for something to do on Sunday why not get yourself down to Erskine Hospital and ride the Hunner. Hoping to set the first group off at 9am sharp Further details at http://www.johnstone-wheelers.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2395 Cheers, KennyS

    Landis!!

I had posted elsewhere that cheats should be pursued for punitive damages by the Organisers and Sponsors as a 2 year ban, if found guilty, would not seem to be a stiff enough deterrent. I think the following comment from one of the links above shows the precarious situation that the sport is in. Meanwhile German television station ZDF said it might now cease broadcasting the Tour de France. "We signed a broadcasting contract for a sporting event, not a show demonstrating the performances of the pharmaceutical industry," said editor-in-chief Nikolaus Brender. "We are going to think about our future as broadcaster and maybe refuse to broadcast this event." I appreciate that there is probably more TV coverage now than before but the Tour is still the pinacle which generates millions and not only for the Organisers and TV . This may be a a bit of posturing on the part of this particular Broadcaster (and the Germans might not be as interested in the Tour if their Golden Boy is not riding for the next couple of years anyway) but who reading this forum hasn't thought along similar lines as they hear of another doping scandal
  10. Sorry ..... had missed your earlier post. We now have a driver for the broomwagon following my earlier post. Thanks for the offer of help though. If you're interested there is still the matter of signing riders in and out and hopefully the barbecue as well if you are in the area Cheers, KennyS PS It is quiet in here. Folk must be saving their energy for the weekend's exertions
  11. Following on from a great turnout last night the final round in the Chocolate Series will be Tuesday 1st August on the Georgetown Road with a 19:15 start Any volunteers for timekeeping? KennyS
  12. Some new faces as well as the regulars made for a great turnout on a great summers night. First on the night was George Hamilton (16m 12s), although he couldn't quite catch the Mrs (16m 57s) who set off a minute in front. Big Al (16m 32s) split George and Kat even though he was knackered from pushing everyone else off first before jumping on his bike Youngsters William and Andy made a welcome return joining new faces David and John Full results on the night Joyce 21m 38s William (J) 20m 17s Andy (Y) 19m 44s Howie 19m 53s John Anderson 19m 38s Jim Daly 19m 06s Mike Ferguson 18m 59s Vicky 18m 19s Stephen Hickey 18m 37s Katrina 16m 57s George 16m 12s Campbell 17m 46s Tony 20m 15s David Raymond 25m 11s John Robertson 21m 56s Alan Holmes 16m 32s Timekeeper Yours truly Assisted by David McKellar (modelling Dooleys' 2007 range of footwear) Spectator Frank and one reported midge Well done to all. Same time next week for the final round of the Chocolate Series. Here's hoping the good weather lasts Cheers, KennyS
  13. Brian I have my confirmation from booking online. No mention of JWCC on it. Others may be in the same situation Is it possible to reserve a JWCC table Kenny Steele
  14. I will timekeep and will also throw in a special prize for a category yet to be defined. See you all for a 7:15pm start
  15. It seems that the offer of a roll and vegetarian sausage is putting some folk off. How's about we make it prime beef or pork? Let me know if you are interested
  16. Well done, Scott Great read as well Is this you in training for another Arran trip? KennyS

    Ullrich

Sickened by the whole thing. I'm heading off to France tomorrow and am now wondering what I'm going to be standing at the side of the road watching
  18. Now there's an idea. Split the bunch into teams, appointing the faster guys as domestiques who would be sent back to the van at regular intervals to collect 99's, wafers, double nougats, bottles of Irn Bru and 20 fags for their respective slightly rotund and slower team leaders. Any volunteers for team leaders?
  19. We are in need of a driver for the 'Broomwagon' on the Erskine Century Ride this year. This is an all day event leaving Erskine Hospital at 9am and getting back late afternoon or as long as it takes you to get all stragglers in the back of the van, across on the ferry and back up the road. - Applicants must be able to follow cyclists if they can't follow a map - A van (supplied by Kenny Mac) will be provided for the successful applicant - Driving licence preferable - Free roll and sausage (vegetarian) at the finish If you think that you are up to the job then please send me a PM. Cheers, KennyS
  20. Did someone mention drinking? Sorted
  21. Thanks to all those who have responded to date Further details of this event can now be found at http://www.johnstone-wheelers.co.uk/century_display.php Cheers, KennyS
  22. A change of plans means I am unable to timekeep tonight Good Luck KennyS
  23. Welcome to The Bunch. The Century Ride leaves and finishes at Erskine Hospital, or Erskine, as it is called now. The exact location is still to be confirmed but is likely to be one of the buildings next to the Garden Centre in the grounds. You don't have to pre-enter, just turn up on the day and pay your entry fee by cash or cheque, although it would be helpful if those planning on riding could either post on here or contact me so that we have some idea of numbers Don't leave it until August though. Try and get along to the club rooms in Johnstone on a Sunday morning (9:30) start for a 'leisurely' run Cheers, KennyS

    Advice Required

Looking for some technical advice When shifting down on the front my chain is occasionally getting trapped between the two chainrings. Wouldn't have thought this is a compatibility issue as I am using a 9 speed Ultegra chainset (53/39), with 9 speed Ultegra front mech, 9 sepped Dura-Ace bar end shifters and a 9 speed 105 chain. Apart from the obvious solution of not changing down (thanks Kat ) anyone got any ideas on how to overcome this Kenny
