  1. Hi all, I know quite a few of you have expressed an interest in riding some of the increasingly popular 'sportive' type events next year - me too. Here's the site with all the details, including the European ones as well: http://www.cyclosport.co.uk/ The Bealach is a must, but the real Daddy of them all is the Fred Witton Challenge. Last year Lesley posted asking if anyone fancied it, but we were all too late - it's very popular with limited places. Anyone fancy it this (next May) year? We could block-book places as soon as the website opens with the application form. Also, the Tour of the Dales looks nearly as challenging (fun!). Plenty to discuss then on the Curry Night (1/12) ttfn DMcG
  2. Make sure it's the night after your match and not the night before! John A told me of his recent outing at a duathlon which he did with a pal - John biked and the pal ran. John did a fine time on the bike and a good placing was on the cards as his pal was a good runner...or so he thought. He came in 5 mins down after having to jump into a hedge for a 'call of nature' after the previous night's ruby murray!
  3. Hi all. Looks as though tonight is out and I'm afraid the 2 w/es after that are out for me as well, which leaves only the 1st Dec, for me. Can we make that a provisional date? At least that's 2 of us, 3 if you can make it Kenny... cheers Darryl
  4. I'll be there the w/e after next. as Stevie says it will be a cracker. see you all there. DG
  5. Sorry Paul, no can do. How about the week before? Friday 11th/sat 12th? Otherwise it's December for me. Show of hands who's up for what? ttfn DG
  6. Count me in Kenny. Sounds like you've the makings of a really popular event. When the word gets out you'll have a full field and then some, nae bother. BTW, when's the next JWCC curry night, any idea Kenny? cheers Darryl
  7. Hi Kat as I said when I last saw you, I'd have liked to be able to join in, but I can't make Tuesdays, so I've taken up spinning at Linwood on Wednesdays instead. Have fun Darryl
  8. David - I'll do you a swap. Your list for the training manual. cheers DG
  9. Yer right Dougie. Are Simon and Martin organising the catering this year, again? Would be great if they would, but we can't expect that they will. Simon, Martin. Are you happy to do that, or should we all go shopping? Alternative is to go to the pub and to hell with the cooking I'll bring Tea, Good Coffee, dried milk and mueseli for breakfast anyway and I'll be going the short way All meet at 8.30am on Sat morning? ciao DG

  11. I'll help out - time keeper or pusher off, though I won't be riding. cheers Darryl
  12. Hi Guys I understand the urge to take the long route, after all it was myself that made the original suggestion a couple of years ago. I also remember the state most of us were in when we finally arrived after carrying all our luggage. There were quite a few of us nearly asleep before our dinner arrived. My own preference is for the shortest route to the hostel and then the scenic ride (all the way around Arran, or just the half circuit). I think the other route would be a bit much for me just now. But irrespective of my own fitness, it is much better, I think, if we ditch the bags first, before getting the miles in. Think of poor old Simon!! Anyway, as you've probably gathered, myself (and MvW) will be doing just that. Would be great if we all did likewise, but not absolutely necessary. Either way, I'm sure we'll all have a great time. ttfn DG
  13. Mark Whitehead is a definite too.
  14. Great stuff. The Auchrannie would have been nice, but the YH is good too. I'll have two panniers available for light food transportation duties, so let me know. BTW I'm not available on BT just yet and visits to the bunch are a bit intermittent, so if folk need to get in touch quick, use my mobile number. DG
