    Madone 5.9

In case anyone interested I saw Black Bob in passing today and he mentioned he was selling a 52cm Trek Madone 5.9 frame as he is now astride a Cervelo (obviously copying Dougy Da Cervelo) PMcD
  12. Ian I had a brainstorm and planned to do the Div 1 Wanlockhead race that day. If you are short of numbers then I have a convenient excuse not to !! I'll keep an eye out PMcD
  13. I have a place in the Bealach sportive on Sep 1st. Unfortunately I am not going to make it so I thought I'd offer my place to another club member in the first instance in case anyone was really keen but could not get one of the coveted slots. I have heard that places are not transferrable but you could be me if you want, if you get my drift. Anyway pm me if interested - if I've not heard from anyone by Saturday I'll get in touch with an Ayr Roads guy that is interested. cheers PMcD
  14. I am planning to do the crit on 15th Sep. For the E, 1,2,3 race I expect it to be full on from the start. To be more technical I expect to get a tanking. For anyone who has not been racing this year it would probably be very 'challenging' to hang on. The 4, J, W event is an excellent opportunity to race on closed roads with a decent crowd etc and should be considered as Jim mentions at the top. PMcD
  15. Yes, Jim and I had quite a day on Sunday. We travelled up and down on the day so it was 7 hours driving and 3 hours hard racing, all in heavy rain just to make it more interesting. To make it even more interesting I punctured after 10 miles just when big Jim was lining out the bunch After a good change I gave it my all to get back on and eventually got some help. It came down to a bunch gallop of about 30 and it was pretty crazy with guys hitting the cat eyes and lots of bumping and barging. Fortunately everyone stayed upright, I saw a gap, disengaged my brain and went for it ! PMcD
  16. 17th or 24th is a Yes Bring it on PMcD Wheres the karaoke ???
  17. Well done Jim. The 19-44 race was very agressive throughout with numerous attacks and regroups. Eventually it split into a number of groups as we grovelled round towards the line. Far as I know I was second in my age group but as I left sharpish afterwards I'll need to wait and see the results ! catch you soon PMcD
  18. Can I get a pair of size 4 bib shorts if there are any spare please - I had not pre ordered any - so only if spare. thanks PMcD [/u]
  19. Just to repeat my thanks to those who helped out - I really appreciated being able to take part this year, in particular Darryl McGunson Ian Mantan Mike Ferguson John Anderson Alan from Fife who got delayed in traffic Douglas - Euan Popestars brother for driving and as always - Tam O Ranter for driving and numerous other tasks. and the other floating marshalls Stevie B, Sarah, etc etc 2 other wheelers also took part in the race , Marco van W and Jim Daly, which is a credit to all those listed above. PMcD
  20. As Jimmy Saville would say "Ohhh OOhhh a thousand thanks to all the helpers" Can I ask those who can help to be at the Barrmill hall for 11.30am. Tis much appreciated. Lesley, your kind offer of home baking would be great if you can manage it. There should be a spare marshall for the corners so I suggest that since the weather is nice you could set up a rota of riding round and relieving the next person so you can all get a bit of a ride now and then. Thanks and see you Saturday - I've started getting all the usual phone calls about entries etc so should be plenty riders !! PMcD
  21. You make a good point Kenny - it took me a long time to change from black to red cleats. Might give that solution a go .... PMcD
  22. Does anyone else have creaky red cleats ? Ever since the new red cleat with white inserts came out I can only get about 6-7 weeks out a pair of cleats before they start creaking. And I find it impossible to get rid of ! I am desperate for tech advice before I ceremoniously chuck all my Look pedals and cleats in the bin with great force. I have scoured the forums and tried the following, none have lasting success, there are a lot of others around the world with this gripe !! - completely clean all mating sufaces - pedal and cleat - with a petrol soaked rag and thoroughly dry out - this actually works for a very short time, - strip plates from shoe and thoroughly clean and dry the cleat - shoe interface then smear with grease, - grease the male bolts which fix the cleat to the shoe sole, - tried all of the following substances on the cleat - pedal contact points - oil, WD40, grease, each works for a matter of minutes. I am arriving at the conclusion that the white compound is a lot of s...te. I hope to be proven wrong before jumping off a bridge in frustration ! thanks, feel better for that rant PMcD
  23. This was a good one from a JWCC viewpoint. There were 2 races, an over 40 and under 40 - with the exception being Davy G who went in the youngsters race and duly won it. There were about 25-30 riders in the over 40. I attacked in the first mile to get a heat after the hailstones on the ride out to the start. Jim quickly joined me and we put our heads down. The bunch chased for about 10 miles and the gap was not growing, I was beginning to think it was a suicide move but I knew we were about to turn on to twisty roads where it was the old adage of out of site out of mind and the elastic snapped. We rode a 2 up to the finish and rolled over together (but not in the biblical sense) PMcD Extra banana today
