  1. Up for the Arran trip and the curry. Bring it on How about the 1st weekend in October for Arran. Not fussed about where we choose to stay, as long as Simon brings the entertainment. Hotel was good - sauna and pool just the ticket after the bike, but the hostel was cheaper and the grub was better. Only 5 minutes to the boozer too. Just need to choose your dorm carefully... How about a midweek date for a curry night in September? As for covering all the costs, it might have been oxygen starvation, but I don't remember having the breath to say anything up the bealach Were you not too far away to hear anyway?
  2. ... and getting one of these instead. http://www.cruzincooler.com/parts%20pro ... ellall.htm Do you think I could get up the bealach fully loaded?????
  3. popped in to see harry last night, and found kenny steele there (either on a humanitarian mission, or avoiding the westferry 10 on a blustery night ) harry has had his arm operated on, pins inserted, and a cast applied. He was due to be sized today up for a corset/jacket to support his back, and should get out tomorrow. still smiling though, as he always is. m
  4. Was speaking to harry when he was on the ground on Sunday. He mentioned having a sore back, but ... 2 vertebrae! best wishes Harry m
  5. I'll be there if there's a leg rub. I had my first one on Saturday after the bealach and it's changed my life, I can tell you...
  6. As dedicated supporters of Scottish drinking (or is that cycling), Alan (used to be a road cyclist) and myself have booked our seats for this fine event. Any other JW's coming to the party?

  10. Just a quick note to thank all those who took part and supported this year's Don Smith run. First and foremost thanks to the 200 riders from all over the country who took part in the event. Together we raised £1650 to be split 50:50 between our two charities, the Braveheart Cycling Fund and the Accord Hospice. The event could not have happened without the support of a great many people. Sorry if this sounds like an Oscar speech, and apologies if I’ve missed anyone out but let me embarrass these people by thanking them: 'Waving off' by Dot Smith Bunch leaders Alex McPhee, Simon Simpson, Robert Sharp, Allan from Kilmacolm (new JWCC rider), Brian Smith, Donald Scally, Steven Hickey, Dave McKellar and the rest Joyce McKellar at Renfrewshire Leisure and the Erskine Leisure Centre staff Brian Smith and Allan Millar at Braveheart for their experience and input Ian Dooley for bringing his bike shop First Aid support from Aileen and Kenny at St Andrews Ambulance service Support vehicle drivers Ian Manson, Kenny Steele and Alan Yeoman Executive Route consultancy by Kenny MacDonald Police liaison by Jim Brogan JWCC website & online registration by Iain Laing Design and printing of the Don Smith materials by Chung Wong and Kenny Steele and critically... catering by Sharon Flindall, Kirstie Stephen, Lynne Brady and young Josh Clappers Many thanks to all. 14. Hi Dave the 70 mile run is called 'quick' because that's seems to be how it's always been described (at least for the last 4 Don Smiths that I've seen). However you'll be able to choose the bunch you ride in on the day, so assuming that there are other like minded individuals riding then there could easily be a moderate 70 mile gruppo. On the other hand, the 50 mile ride is actually 60 miles this year, as we discovered when we measured it so I guess you've got a couple of choices. cheers martin

    Girona Trip

Nae booz? Now you've got me really worried - suggest you return home immediately for a full medical he's got you worried? I'm going to italy for a week with the man. Stevie - get back on the bevvies immediately, or I'm no playin'
  16. hi kenny - can see the list now, and it's just as I remembered it. Are we going to have photies of the motley crew?
  17. the link disnae work in Safari, either (that's the Mac browser, for you peecee folk)
  18. We need some for the presentation dance! A regular feature of the dance (and a useful way to raise a few bob for club funds) is a prize raffle. This depends on people bringing along contributions as prizes. the more you bring, the better it is. Bottles (full) and those boxes of chocolates left over from the festive season are a regular feature (you don't want them any more - you've started training, haven't you?). Who knows what you got for Christmas that you don't really need? Put it in the JWCC raffle - easier than eBay, and more rewarding. Please bring along any donations on the night. many thanks martin
  19. A cracking response over the last week has seen confirmed numbers for the dance rise to 78 people - thanks to all who've booked (and to Kenny for makng all the phone calls). However the hotel isn't setting up the venue until Thursday afternoon, so if you're still swithering you've got one more chance. Stick a post here before 12:00 on Thursday and I'll add you to the list. Mine's a pint! Martin
  20. steevo yeoman and me made the circuit this morning . where were you? cheers m

    Fixed wheel

hi simon sorry - off tomorrow for a week in achiltibuie (with gears). did get out in the fog this morning - down to glengarnock this morning for a few laps. don't know what was worse - the back wheel stepping out on the black ice every so often, or the frost build up on your eyebrows. still, all worth it to see the majesty that is alan yeoman out on a bike in december. even a fixed wheel. have a good new year, martin

    Fixed wheel

I'm with you bob. my (at least) 15yo steel bike made it onto the road today. looks like crap, but fits like a glove and the 64" gear seems fine to me. Fancy measuring my cadence against all you big (74") gear men, so when's the fixed bunch coming out to play? I'm up for a hurl tues/wed, or sat 7th/sun 8th. Show of hands? PS if it's tues/wed, planning on a couple of morning hours, followed by lunch in the pub

    Fixed wheel

Come on Simon, only half an answer. How come you're not discussing tyre size then eh eh eh? if you're a real propeller head shurely thatsh important? I have a lovely gear table (.xls file) which lets you put in tyre bead size, so my planned 39x16 gear (ie the only chainring I've got) combined with a 23-622 tyre will give me 64inches. how fast do I need to pedal to get 18mph then?
  24. Martin say salut to Christian for me. I'll be in Aberdeen for the weekend so unfortunately can't come out to play. cheers m
