  1. If stuck with sparky let me know and I will get guy who done original rewiring. Plumber contact Alan Harris in Kilbarchan he done the heating sytem and was a long term member. Stays opposite Jim Dunlop and Ironman knows him as well.
  2. Posted on Braveheart :- looking at new design for 10th Anniversary....open to design input... You send designs and you choose it... Sounds interesting, there has been much debate that red is the fastest colour!! Would a lion rampant somewhere in there be too much of a Lion of Flanders rip-off?? Reply by Brian Smith Honorary life member of JWCC the only fast colours in Scotland are yellow, blue and white :-) Good to see Brian is still a Johnstone rider at heart
  3. Unable to attend the AGM but would welcome a chance to see the proposals being put forward. Can someone pm them to me Kenny MacD
  4. we ordered special kit for a foray into the Pyrenees many moons ago . Stylish blue tartan shorts to go with club jerseys , they certainly got us noticed we also had saltire gilets ( offishel commie games kit - from the days when we had riders in the squad) We did register an away strip one year ( plain blue track tops with sponsors on ) as people were complaining about keeping yellow kit clean at CX and early season events. SC frowned upon it and changed rules to stop us doing it again
  5. Thats a sexy beast Kenny, if I had the dosh would buy in a flash Kenny MacD
  6. What about the club/club bikes Lance ? either a loan or you could store a secret steed in the clubrooms
  7. Probably best if fixed wheelers ride 10m behind as they can cause problems in a bunch! RED card Mr Gunson fixed wheel is far safer than freewheel in any situation. Kenny MacD
  8. The hill climb in the olden days ( before Gordons time) was alaways done in conjunction with Lomond roads then Regent cycling club. Where it would be a inter club event. There was a schoolboy/ junior section going to the top and a kids event which stopped where the Jets currently stop. The habble for the 30 sign on way back to clubrooms could be 40 - 50 strong and I remember track specialist Phil Seirs fighting it out with road sprinter Drew Robertson on a few occassions. As quite a few guys rode the hill on fixed they would bring a cog to allow them to take part in gallop on way back. The sports day events Gordon mentioned were keenly contested with Charlie macdonald of Regent and Joe Mcginty demonstrating track stands lasting over half an hour one day before event was abandonded. The original freewhweel was over shoogly bridge but the fence proved too inviting for some and riders were ending up in Linwood When it was changed to through park I recall completing a full lap of circuit and making it back halfway up the lane by using a front wheel swinging method. We also had egg and spoon races ( spoon in mouth) and an obstacle race with a Le mans running start. The speed judging was a serious event ( remember this was days before computers) with everyone trying to calculate times . Riders would pass each other shouting what speed you got ??? and always somebody would pass you with a speed slower than your own In Regent days we finished off with a football match where some played in cycling shoes ????? and these were deadly serious events also. My funniest memory is the legendary Hughie Donald playing wearing a columbo style raincoat left over from a jumble sale in clubrooms .We ran event as an open event a few times and it went right to top of the climb. We even ran it for a few years as a stage event with hill climb in morning and a cyclo cross in afternoon t clubrooms before the new housing was built.
  9. Ben started really well and caught his opponent after only 4 laps , was cruising for first 3K but faded a little in last few laps . A tremendous effort considering his lack of track time . The pursuit is one of those black arts which takes time to master - start too slow and your dead , start too fast and you die experience allows you to get the blend spot on . Watch out next year when Ben has this experience well done Ben and his back up squad Willie & Jonny
  10. Today is Bens big day so fingers crossed he does a good ride in qualifier
  11. Results of todays event 1st on time and handicap :- George Hamilton & James MacD 16:12 2nd on time and handicap :- Campbell & David T 16:54 3rd on time and handicap :- Greig and Elaine 23:07 4th. Mike Ferguson 17:55 Congrats to teams who took part , poor turnout for a club championship on a good morning for racing . More spectators than riders We will have to review format for next years event. Kenny MacD
  12. Hi just a reminder this Sunday is the club Championship 2 up event. Run over the Georgetown course . The event is run on a handicap basis with both riders times ( based on a percentage of 10 time)being aggregated and taken from finishing time. I am timekeeping and its a 10;00am start, this will allow club runs to take part following the event. See you Sunday
  13. Guys the Celtic cup is in the black box in storeroom at clubrooms. Hope you enjoy tournament , still recovering from illness so wont be available to play .Hopefully catch up with you all next season for a chukka or two.
  14. Paisley lass is a former member of JWCC. Her dad Davie Mitchell was a stalwart of the club for many years taking various positions on committee as well as being an active racing member. He is a life member of the club and still cycles on the cycle track but illness has stopped him recently from doing his daily 30 mile run. Carole was never an active cyclist and suffered from a severe back problem herself in early life . She has been active in her field in Paisley for many years . A wee bit of useless info ? I use Horace for my back problems and am delighted with the service he gives . I go back no more than every 3-4 years since initiall consultation and treatment.
  15. Note on Brave Heart about a former active member of JWCC Fullarton Wheelers rider Bill Moore sadly passed away this morning in Ayr Hospice, after suffering from illness over the past few years. Bill will be well remembered by a lot of you when he rode the Vets Road Races, Tour De Gents and Tour of Mallorca, amongst others, over the years. Bill was well travelled through his work commitments and always managed to keep riding and racing no matter where. He had also been a member of Ayr Roads, Johnstone Wheelers and Paisley Road Club. Bill will be sadly missed by all club members. Funeral arrangements to follow. Our thoughts are with Moira and family. Bill was a very active member of the club in late 70s / early 80s along with son Boyd. He always helped out with races and used his building background to assist in clubrooms etc. He lived in Beith then moved deeper into Ayrshire but even when he joined Fullarton was a great supporter of the club. He was blighted with ill health which latterly meant he had to give up racing . He was a genuine enthuisastic cyclist who always took time to chat and discuss the club. He will be sadly missed.
  16. Ian Loughran is keen to get back playing but a Friday doesnt suit him . just for info
  17. Jim became a legend in the club in a very short time. He always did things his way and never bothered about letting you know that he knew best LOL A genuine person who brought a lot to the club , be it waxing lyrical about the finer points of toasted brown bread or bending peoples legs on a Sunday run. A sad loss especially in someone so young and enthuisiastic. He will be fondly remebered by all for many a year.
  18. Query on behalf of someone else , where is meeting point ? thanks

  21. Thoroughly enjoyed my morning out yesterday apart from 2 punctures Good blend of young and old , experienced and inexperienced in first group. Rider of the day was without doubt Lewis , his audacious attack on Clune was a joy to behold . Only down side was lack of keys at end of event ( hope someone had good sense to take a pic of the peloton standing outside clubrooms at end) , I,m sure this will be rectified next week. Huge thanks to all who contributed food etc ( especially designer club cakes) see you all in 4 weeks at Don Smith event Kenny MacD
