  12. It was a wet wet wet day oot today James,Jonny,Greg from Dev squad were joined by Iain C , Charlie , Richard , yours truly and club sponsor Willie Cosh for our away day Weather was looking promising as we boarded ferry and a few un named riders gave favourable forecasts Halfway down Loch Eck and the rain got heavier, turning onto the Whistlefield climb and it got heavier Willie who is just recovering from an illness opted to miss out the climb and retrace back to Dunnoon. On the climb James set the early pace followed by Richard with Greg and Jonny closely monitoring the moves. On the steeper slopes James pulled a foot and Greg put in an attack By the time James got back in the saddle everyone had pased him by Greg now sensing a mountain summit finish set off at pace followed by Richard and Jonny. Meantime James set off eventually to chase down the bunch . He quickly picked off myself and Charlie who were admiring the views across Loch Eck before chasing down the bunch. Greg managed to hold hin off and secure the first climb of the day. The descent on the steep side is always tricky and even more so as we had a few first timers The pace quickened as we sped along the coastline wheeling our way back toward Dunnoon. Through Sandbank and James atttacked at the foot of the climb over to Dunnoon trying to make ammends for his earlier mishap. Greg and Jonny reacted quickly to try and close the gap Three quarters up and they started to fade allowing Mac2 the chance to jump across to James at the summit By now it was a very wet group who dropped into Dunnoon and headed westward to Castle Toward. Just leaving Dunnoon Charlie punctured and the rest were despatched onward as I stayed to assist in the repairs. The curse of the extra tight Gatorskin when hands are cold and wet was inflicted on poor Charlie as he struggled to change the offending tube Puncture sorted we headed back to the ferry as Charlie had a wedding to attend in the afternoon. He headed back across the Clyde and I awaited the rest of the group which appeared shortly with James and Iain leading the gallop for the ferry. The heating was on and a wet but happy group chilled out on the return journey. Iain and Richard opted to ride back up the road and we joined Willie in the minibus for a drier run back up the road to Johnstone. 45 wet miles under our wheels in Argyleshire Riders of the day Iain C another impressive ride by the elder statesman Richard cruised thru the run twiddling his way round Biggest smile of the day :- Greg the hill climber closely followed by Charlie who loved the whole experience The ever present Jonny chasing every move Comeback rider Willie Cosh who cruised effortlessly along Loch Eck reminding me of his early days as a tester of note in the club events James venting his anger at his non existent shoe plate before remounting and chasing Greg up the Whistlefield No Dev squad run next week , although watch this space for a pre AGM outing
  13. David T & Greg Jonny & James anyone else riding ? ps I have emailed entries to Willie Stephen
  14. Charlie plan is 9:45 ferry Sandbank 10:15 - Strachur 11:30 - Ardentinny 12;15- ferry 12;45 ish all dependent on weather punctures etc Shortcut of coming straight back along loch Eck will shave 20 - 30 mins off time
  15. Alisdair yes still on same email add. Jim told me you had been in touch to arrange pick up of the wood , there should be some good mallet head material in amongst it . Hopefully catch up with you all at some point soon.
  16. We did agree same price as last year £45. We are playing on a brand new tarmac basketball court, complete with boards and fence. The guys are mainly hardened MTB fanatics who are trying to make me go with them to Torridon at weekends They are building fixies as brakes are no good in such confined spaces. We plan to get onto grass with some shinty players after Easter . cheers
  17. Last 2 weeks have been very wet & windy in Skye but still getting 4 playing urban hardcourt in atrocious conditions. What kind of numbers are you guys getting ?
  18. Planned away day in Argyleshire. Planning on meeting at Gourock ( Westen Ferry ) to catch 9:45am boat Loch Eck , Strachur ( triangle) Loch Eck , Ardentinny ,Dunnoon. Steady run open invite. Dev squad riders wishing a run down to ferry ( you only get a lift back if I am in a good mood ) email me to arrange a pick up. Kenny MacD
  19. You need a licence or you can buy a day licence ( cheaper to get a licence )
  20. We certainly were out , in force Our young trio :- James , Greg and Jonny were joined by Charlie , Bill , Jim M , Iain C , Iain M and yours truly for a hilly extravaganza. I joined the bunch at top of Bowfield for a foggy start to the day . It was our end of month FUN day oot . A shorter run but a free day on the climbs The first of which was the mini Alpe behind Lugton , the macdonalds lit the blue touch paper and it was game on Bill T charged on past the awaiting group at the summit ( a theme which was to prevail ) and on we sped to the next climb . It was an eightsome reel as we planned on eight ascents ( well major ascents ) The climb at Howies arrived as number 3 and it spread the bunch across the climb. Old Bill was once again at the front and left to plough on into the headwind as the fog lifted and blue skies greeted us The roller coaster ride along toward Neilston saw Charlie and Iain M attack on a sneaky double breakaway , pity they didnt know that the route plan involved a left hander THe descent brought an altercation with a women in charge of a couple of ponies , well she thought the director sportive was too vocal ?? I know I can be accused of frightening young babies , but horses Neigh I dispute that Rather than let her vent her anger at Bill and Jim I stopped to engage her in some witty banter , we exchanged numbers and left the best of friends At the summit it was a Clint Eastwood moment as Charlie tried to work out if I had used 6 or 7 of my climbs Jim M decided attempting a dev squad run on no training was a bad idea and Bill T opted to escort him safely back to clubrooms. Onward and upward to second last climb of the day , Caldwell surpise a surpise for James who attacked and missed the turnoff , Jonny volunteered to chase him down and get him back on route. This gave the fat director sportive the chance to sneak off up the road to claim a hilltop finish A last gallop up a Peesweep rocky road classic brought the climbs to a finale All that was left was a rapid descent to Spateston and a gallop for the last sign before the Beith road. Its amazing how fat diector sportives can go quicker going downhill than they can uphill Riderz of the day James , only lost one climb all day ( that will teach him to listen carefully to instructions) Greg , was strong all day despite gear problems. Jonny showed today that he can climb ( look out guys in next few weeks) Iain M , what knee operation !!!! Iain C , showed once again what a classy rider he is Charlie , he oozes enthuisiasm and endeavour all day long Bill T , slow but steady wins the day Jim M , rode himself into the ground great effort jim ( it gets easier, trust me. Weather permitting we are over the water next week .
  21. http://www.leagueofbikepolo.com/ is the new web add for hardcourt polo
  22. Martin I have 2 sets of keys plus 1 set at the Fife lodgers . You will need to check with Kenny S if they are down this weekend . James will be down for a turbo session later tonight but doesnt arrive till after work between 8:30 and 9pm so if a key can be dropped off at my house or Halfords Braehead before then it would be app. Kenny MacD ps Ian McGinty should have a set of keys as well pps that padlock is only 20 years old and had plenty of life left in it , obviously a heavy handed Dundonian
  23. Ramp test is done on my Cateye simulator and is a gradual increase in resistance/effort where we measure Watts and heart rate over a fixed period. I am home during xmas holidays so it will be done between 24th and 29th. December and then monthly from then on .
  24. We will be heading to Ayrshire for some hilly sessions this Saturday, leaving clubrooms at 9:30am prompt. The squad would like to extend an invite to riders who joined them 2 weeks ago, for an uneventfull ride this time hopefully
  25. I will be sending a box of energy saving plugs (Eon) to clubrooms tonight. Please feel free to take as many as you need & distribute to friends. They are for PCs and when switched off ,puts power to all incidentals off too. They also act as anti surge devices.
