Guest GEORGE DONNELLY
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/vayer-casts-doubt-over-performances-of-indurain-and-jalabert P.S did the sky boys not try and ride at a 450W on the climbs for Sir Brad? Yip. Also read sir brad saying he did half kilo spells of 500 watts on some tour climbs. Hoping sky are clean but the figures don't seem to add up. Porte, Froome, & Kirilenka(?) have done some awesome rides this year. Hmmmm.
2023 Subscriptions thejanullrichdietplan Posted June 13, 2013 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted June 13, 2013 Making estimates based on VAM rather than measured power data is quite difficult as it ignores the ebb and flow of a race, whether it was tempo being ridden or attacks, the wind direction, the size of the bunch and so on. Bit more detail here on some of the problems Vayers evidence has (it is from a couple of years back but i dont think his methodology has changed since then) http://www.sportsscientists.com/search?q=vayer
Phil Malcolm
Vayer won't reveal his methods of calculation. He reckons he can estimate power to within 2% accuracy, but given the variables (bike weight, gradient, air pressure, wind speed, wind direction) this seems unlikely and as he won't show us his workings, how would we know? I doubt I could estimate most riders weight to within 2%. In short, it's guess work. Darryl Gunson
