2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted July 25, 2012 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted July 25, 2012 Does anyone have a tool that will pull and press cartridge bearings for a bike wheel. I know that without the proper tools this can sometimes be a bit tricky, especially pressing new ones back in. I'd rather use the tool if possible. Committee Alan McLean Posted July 25, 2012 Committee Report Share Posted July 25, 2012 Hi darryl I have a ghetto press: a length of threaded rod with a pair of big washers and nuts at either end. I have used it to slowly press fit headsets without any problems. Yours if no-one has the real thing. Alan
2023 Subscriptions P McDonald Posted July 25, 2012 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted July 25, 2012 This might help, I don't have a bearing tool but I have done this on ksyriums. First poured very hot water from kettle over hub shell then used a drift (an old ksyriums axle) to knock out old bearing. Then for new bearing reversed process, I normally put the new bearing in fridge the put the hot water on shell and the new bearing can be pressed in by hand. Grease up to ensure it slips in evenly and all the way home.
2024 Subscriptions Darryl Gunson Posted July 25, 2012 Author 2024 Subscriptions Report Share Posted July 25, 2012 Thanks Alan and Paul. It's not getting them out that is the problem, but putting new ones in. Thanks for the tip Paul. Alan - your ghetto press sounds just the thing.
