Committee Alan McLean Posted April 18, 2008 Committee Report Share Posted April 18, 2008 Very exciting to see our very own Jim Daly in the start list. Best cyclists in Scotland and further afield are entered. It's sure to be fierce. All the best Jim. Race report please, when you've got breath back Regards Alan
Guest Jim Daly
Alan Thank you for kind wishes. I had plenty of luck. The neutral section with a friendly following wind actually went quite well. Only problem was a shortage of speed, when the race actually started. East wind of 17mph with 30mph gusts made life very difficult on A77. After only about 5miles, I had nothing left and thought about pulling over. I then noticed that British Criterium Champion James McCallum (Plowman Craven) was behind me! That cheered me up for about 30seconds. Approaching the end of the A77 and the first corner, the pace really picked up. I managed to get ahead of the tail of the bunch. But by the second corner, a mile later, a gap of 10metres had opened up. For me, the race was over. I had planned, in advance, and at that point continued to believe that I would keep going until lapped. Eventually, back on the A77 heading East and struggling in 39x23, it was obvious that just returning to Eaglesham would be a significant challenge. 2023 Subscriptions P McDonald Posted April 20, 2008 2023 Subscriptions Report Share Posted April 20, 2008 Jim I was so impressed you were riding I rode up this afternoon to give you a shout. The 4th lap was in progress when I got there and I can tell you there were no more than 30 left in the race ( from reportedly 75 signed on) in 4 seperate groups. And the wind must have been an absolute leg breaker. Stick with it - I hope to be able to join you in your endeavours soon. PMcD

Committee Alan McLean Posted April 21, 2008 Author Committee Report Share Posted April 21, 2008 Jim On my trip back from Ayr I was on the M77 and drove parallel with the A77 for a few miles and saw the race. Must have been 3rd or 4th lap. Groups of ones and twos at the back were inching into miserable NE wind. Leading bunch still looked comfy though. I can see why it would have been impossible to get back on once any gap had opened. Top marks for getting into the big time! A
