  1. Yes there may be people going out but it ain’t a Sunday Main Bunch Ride , it’s usually a shortish recovery ride for those who have been out the day before. Will it change I don’t think so , does using WhatsApp help no it doesn’t, is anybody posting Sunday Runs in advance on here or anywhere no not really for the main bunch , is it dead ? There is definitely not much sign of life , maybe it’s time to switch the life support off , and live by the chaos of WhatsApp and Saturday Rides

  2. Hi All main bunch or fast longer bunch.

With the current drive to posting runs on watts app , it would appear that the traditional Sunday run has died a death, with a fairly large group riding on Saturdays , they subsequently post short recovery rides on Sundays which seems to be driving the last few nails into the Sunday run . So what’s the thoughts on the main bunch , is Saturday the new Sunday if not what has happened to the Sunday run. IMO it’s dead , evidences for this is nothing is posted, it’s always very last minute, rarely posted on here , and if posted on WhatsApp some one usually posts over the original ride so it becomes a confusing chain of nonsense.

  3. Hi there,

I hope that email finds you and your members well. Whilst we would usually only send out an update email once a month, there are a few updates that are time sensitive so I would appreciate your support in passing these onto your members where appropriate.

    Covid-19 Guidance Update

With the removal of the legal mandate on the wearing of face coverings from today, there are now no measures in place which restrict the activity that your club can deliver. We’d like to thank you all, particularly those within your club that stepped forward to fulfil the Covid-19 Coordinator role for all their time over the past few years in supporting the safe delivery of activity.

Club Confined Time Trials – Policy Update

We are delighted to advise you of some very positive changes that will be implemented from this year onwards.

Thanks to your valued feedback, we have had very constructive discussions with British Cycling on some progressive steps we can take to enhance the club confined time trial offering in Scotland. Second claim club members will now be permitted to ride club confined time trials and the maximum number of participants per event has been increased to 80. This we feel will increase the accessibility and engagement with club confined time trials for all who wish to participate.

British Cycling have agreed to trial these changes for 12 months on the basis that the guidance on risk assessing and running club confined time trials is implemented. The benefits of this being to help clubs mitigate risk and also demonstrate to the British Cycling insurers, in the event that a claim is made, that we have in place published and accessible guidance available to clubs.

Please find the updated Club Confined Time Trial policy here - which includes links to the risk assessment guidance and risk assessment template. The process for registering club confined time trials are also outlined in the above document, with details on the associated costs if applicable. If you have any questions on this or anything in relation to the new changes, please do not hesitate to contact [email protected] and we will be happy to help.

Enjoyed joining the bunch as far as Stewarton. Cheers Billy for towing me back on after I was dropped like a stone on the Bowfield.

Me and the other Flandrian wannabes followed a lumpy route home, finishing with the Shilford hill. Equally as slow on that hill.

We sort of got sort of lost but not lost , when did they shut the last section of the transmitter hill ? We had a discussion after transmitter hill which resulted in not doing the graveyard climb so it was only a left leg bender .

    Enjoy Flanders and the Beer

  5. Re participation, the reliability rides have always been hit and miss depending on the weather, the three groups worked ok, do these need changed ? Maybe different routes but otherwise they are fine, re time trials at the moment the club looses any second claim , not sure how many that is but maybe that needs looked at, secondly looking at other strips for the 10 TT might be an option and or changing day from Tuesday to Saturday, eliminates looses due to work

Many thanks to everyone who has ridden in the Reliability Series so far, here is hoping Sunday is a great day down to West Kilbride to finish off with.  As we are looking for ways to increase participation in our club’s confined events it is clear that this year’s diary will be in a state of flux.  The next three events are a little bit more competitive but still fun and will be the immediate focus for a revised diary.

Does your initial dates need revised ?

If half a dozen were riding the 25s there wouldn't be any need to change things and they would still be going ahead as normal but unfortunately its been years since there has been that sort of interest. Whether a gravel event will be more popular remains to be seen but it's worth a try

    Jan

Totally agree but don’t think it fits in with a Tuesday night, think it fits in with a Saturday or a Sunday and a longer ride, when I ran the 25 as an CTT event we had 30 plus riders , my point is mainly about the club members not being that interested in racing so moving the goals and racing on a rough surface rather than a road will that encourage people to race . I don’t think so but you won’t know until you try it .

  8. So half a dozen ride Gravel, half a dozen ride TTS so your cancelling two or more hard TTS to increase participation, however there is no guarantee that the gravel riders would participate in a gravel race, also surly the gravel event would have to be longer in duration than our standard TTS , so how long 3/4 hours , would that then not lead itself to be done on a Saturday or Sunday . I have an MTB but don’t think I would be overly excited about riding some wide fire roads on the MTB , probably take me too long .

  9. It’s interesting, but are you going to get 8/10 testers every TT , you would need to recalculate the standard times as they are far too generous, and lastly 100 miles round the coast compared to 100 miles over mountains, how do you work out standard times over various courses, and lastly who’s going to do all the work . The idea is good but can JWCC implement it, I would doubt it , you would need at least 2/3 people spending a lot of time re working standard times for 10 TT , Georgetown and a hill climb , never mind finding two or three similar distanced and elevation events , so I think it’s back to the drawn board for those on the committee that are looking at this .

I know you are right Billy, I suppose that now I am organising the confined events with a view to increasing participation I am genuinely fearful of mucking things up and annoying the club membership.  Kind of just want people to have a good time on their bikes, so I need to arrange what people want.

    Gerrard

You are doing the right thing, it all needs a shake up, TBH the first group in the reliability’s is fairly set, social pace all stay together, it’s whether we have a fast group, If we have two groups that’s fine the second group would ride normal club pace which is not overly hard , however if that group consists of some of the faster bunch I think we should facilitate a faster group if they want. I unfortunately am not fit enough for the fast group but would like to tag on for the last part of the ride if the group I am in gets caught , so I think we have two or three groups like Jan said if the weather was good on the Saturday it’s likely we won’t need a fast group, but if the weather was pants , then why not it gives the fast boys a different route and a zone 2 option for the grand old boy Mr Archibald

It is not going to be easy accommodating everyone’s expectations for the reliability runs.  But can we at least agree that as they are club events then each group should stay together and no-one gets dropped.  Any dafty can go out on their own at race pace and wreck themselves, these rides are with your fellow club members and have other qualities. The rides increase in length through the four weeks and we can adapt and change what we do each week.  There is a post elsewhere on here showing the race calendar if that is your thing.

Gerrard we know it’s a club run and most of the time the bunch will stay together, especially for mechanicals but my recollection of the fast group was that it tried fairly hard to catch the other groups especially towards the end of the run and if you didn’t have the legs or didn’t want to go too hard you didn’t and the group that’s left would carry on, call it being dropped for simplicity, you knew it might happen , I do recall coming back up lochibo road in the snow with big Al as company , it was sort of fun 🤩
