  1. 9.30 am Happy Biking office, Playa Del Ingles "Right"said Burt, the Belgian tour guide,"We have a few kilometres along the coast, then turn left up into the mountains. We will climb gently around 20 km and stop at Santa Lucia for coffee or coke or whatever, then it's a 2km descent followed by by a 6km climb to the high point at 930m, then another 2 km descent then a couple of short climbs of less than 2km each, then descend back to Maspolomas. Easy". GJ was unruffled, firmly zipped closed, and smelling only slightly of sun cream. That was to change. Off we set in 23C. And sure enough, climbing gently for 20 km, with the temperature slowly rising, we got to the beautiful village of Santa Lucia. In the best traditions of the 30 milers, AlanT with GJ firmly bringing up the rear behind Burt and Rudy of Team Rudy Project, his Belgian compatriot. A short rest stop for coke (in bottles) and bananas, and then on to the rest of the trip. Some truly stunning scenery along the way, the highlight being the view (and the sense of achievement) from the viewpoint at 930 metres above sea level. The 2 km descent was fine, and the second of the climbs was nasty, but then we had another stunning view into the mini grand Grand Canyon in one direction and down to the coast in the other. The descent into Maspalomas was 8km of gorgeous, smooth, switchbacked Tarmac with very light traffic, so we could take fast lines through the bends with relative impunity. Thanks to Burt at Happy Biking for his patience, and good luck with the racing. http://happy-biking.com/en?taalkeuze I'll post up a pic when I get back. Rudy from Team Rudy Project (?) and Burt the guide.
  2. Got a trip organised with another company, tour guide and everything. Sorted.
  3. All the best to those taking part tonight.
  4. So, now they tell me the tour guide is on holiday for 2 weeks, but sod it, I'm all geared up to do a couple of runs so I'll do it anyway.
  5. "Listen" said Greig, "you can take a well earned break in the sun. God knows you deserve it after the last couple of months, getting oily fingers on you, and all those runs in cold weather. Just promise me one thing. Ride in formation. Please." Greig's jersey sat there, enigmatically raising its collar. And so it transpired that GJ went on holiday to Gran Canaria with Alan T. More updates with pics later. . . . .
  6. Thanks to Iain for the timekeeping. A much better night tonight as well.
  7. Weathers looking showery, so should be on. 8.45 it is.
  8. I'll be up for that if the weather stays dry.
  9. A much better night than last week. Thanks to Jan and Campbell for the support stuff.
  10. Working this weekend
  11. I found that really tough tonight, didn't feel good at all afterwards. At least I know what doesn't work now. Roll on next week.

    Club BBQ 30/06/13

    Put me down for 2.
  13. Great run out today, first time over 50 miles, and was very glad of a couple of stops before we hit Clunie. Roll on next week.
  14. My bike started out life as a hybrid, but I didn't get on with the flat bars once I stopped using the trailer or baby seat, so I modified it. So far as I can see they have road bike gears sort of (multi freewheel anyone!) , flat bars, chunky tyres and a comfy saddle. Racks, panniers, child seat are optional extras.
  15. Not sure if I'm going to make it this week. Decision on Sunday evening.
  16. Well, that was fun. I might do that again sometime.
  17. Just the thing for a sunny Sunday morning.
  18. There's a very good chance I'll be there. Is someone bringing oxygen?
