  1. Enjoyable night, the sort of springtime weather you look forward to in the depths of winter! Legs were empty but glad to have been out anyway. Its a tough chase, happened to me last year with the bunch in sight along the Georgetown but couldnt catch on. If running a bit late if you go through Houston and past the Monkey House and join at the roundabout after Bishopton then that gives about 10 minutes leeway.
  2. Tough first night of the year - just the 4 of us, with myself, Paul and Colin getting a bit of a kicking off Alan who took the Clune, the two 30 signs and the sprint finish!
  3. Just an update: JWCC were successful in the ballot, so successful we've been allocated 2 teams if we want them. If we dont have enough for 8 riders then i can turn down one of these - is there any further interest? Will be sent the link for entry on the 13th April and will post it on here, you will then have until the 6th of May to enter and the price is £58
  4. away for the weekend so wont be out sorry to hear about the frame, hope you get it sorted on time for Roubaix
  5. Added a couple more races to the list. Alot of the WOSCA ones still to go up. The first couple of 4th Cat crits at Ingliston are now full so if anyone is intending to enter the others then worth doing it soon.
  6. Its snowing now, ive obviously jinxed things posting a thread with summer in the title. Going to give it a miss now (although if you dont reply to this by the back of 6 then i'll head out anyway due to feeling guilty about saying i'll be there then not showing up!)
  7. I'll probably be running a bit late so will try to pick the bunch up at the red smiddy
  8. Anyone planning on going out tonight?
  9. I hope i'm not jumping the gun here but Charlie mentioned in another thread that he was on holiday so i thought i'd post up in his absence. Anyway clocks have changed so it's that time of year again. 6pm start for the first couple of weeks - it could be getting dark towards the end so lights advisable for the trip home. For those who havent been a part of the Thursday fun before - basically the group meet at the bus stop on the Georgetown road near the Crosslee-Houston roundabout. We then follow this route: https://www.strava.com/routes/2016619. Steady along the Georgetown road then through Bishopton with the pace increasing down to and along the West Ferry, every man or woman for themselves up the Clune then back as a group through Kilmacolm and Bridge of Weir to the Georgetown road with a habble to the finish. It's a training ride rather than a social club run so if you get dropped or have a puncture or mechanical then you are on your own. There is however a regrouping at the top of the Clune Brae (there is also a shortcut to miss out part of the Clune climb this route is https://www.strava.com/routes/2016627).If you get dropped then don't be put off, just come back the next week and try to hang on for a little bit longer - it is great way to bring on your fitness as well as measure the improvements being made. If you've been out on club runs before but not experienced a chain gang before then this video helps explain how to ride through and off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWEoBFkwsc0 So who is in?
  10. Numbers down so only 1 B group. First a 35 lap scratch, was quite stop-start with alot of bunching and alot of fresh legs for the sprint. i was boxed in so didnt do anything in the sprint. Think Danny won. Next was a 40 lap points, a breakaway was shaping up before the 2nd sprint so got in that and tried to push the pace but that fizzled out then Danny and someone else attacked and they almost got the lap, didnt quite make it but got a good haul of points from 2 of the sprints so some impressive riding. Then it was an Italian pursuit, no idea how my group got on. Last up was a longest lap race - i opted not to take part though, id already fallen off my rollers earlier in the evening so thought it was just asking for trouble!
  11. I'm sure that somewhere someone will be moaning about the guy in front of them who clipped his pedal and ruined their chances of a better placing! It was an eventful corner - in the previous race the guy who was leading going into the final lap got a puncture on the corner and in the race afterwards a few went down (including Eileen Roe, Kayleigh Brogan and Louise Borthwick) in the middle of the sprint coming out the final corner. So it could have been worse i suppose, at least i stayed on the bike.
  12. Unlucky with the mech hanger and the illnesses too. Went to see a bit of the 2nd race going up past the fishing loch (white loch?), looked very scenic in the springtime evening sunshine but going the other way i dont suppose the view would be on your mind. Had intended to get some photos of the the wheelers involved but had to leave just after the first small group of about 6 went by so didnt manage to get any. Passed Paul on the descent as he was going up, i felt pretty guilty freewheeling down at that point! Well done Alex sounds like you gave it a good go.
  13. Another year another great event from Stirling bike club. 4th cat race was a bit faster than last year but i was doing ok, usual story of hanging about at the back a bit much which almost caught me out as there was a crash late on which split the lead group, managed to pick my way through the flying carbon (a bit hit my helmet!) and got back on by the end of the next lap. Was getting towards the end by then and i moved up on the drag of final lap, and tried to be at the front but not quite on it...managed that ok sprint opened up and i was about third going into the final corner. I had wanted to be first going into this corner but everyone else had the same idea and there wasnt space for us all. The two in front overcooked a bit and went wide and i went for the inside, but in doing so clipped a pedal and almost came off. Managed to stay on the bike but the loss of momentum was too much and then not only lost the chance of a podium but got overtaken by a few other riders too. Feels like a missed opportunity for a daft mistake i shouldnt have made
  14. Just a heads up entries for the criterium at Stirling Castle on June 14th will be opening this weekend, there are 2 4th Cat races, the elite Scottish crit champs (male and female) and various age groups. The 4th cat races will likely be first come first served and will sell out quickly so if anyone else is interested it would be good to pick the same race (assuming there are others wanting to do it of course) . I intend to enter Race 2. https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/129002/Crit-Under-The-Castle-inc--Scottish-Cycling-National-Circuit-Race-Championships#entry
  15. Yeah if you log in and go to the 'my membership' tab (i think this is the link) https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/dashboard?#My_Membership) and print that off and also take some photo ID i think you will be ok. Although worth emailing the organiser in advance to explain just to make sure.
  16. Remember your race licence for the sign in
  17. Happy to do it unless anyone has any objections. Just to clarify though it is definitely possible to have 2 all male team entries in the ballot, we can have up to 20. Obviously need another couple of riders to be interested though.
  18. Do you not fancy it charlie? After all you were the one that brought it up so it would unfair if there isnt a spot for you! I emailed to ask and it is possible to have 2 teams in the ballot, obviously we'd need 8 people interested then
  19. http://crit.stirlingbikeclub.org.uk/assets/docs/RacePack2015.pdf Must be close to 20 Jets / Wheelers involved on Sunday. Then of course another 9 racing at Fenwick on the same day, impressive stuff!
  20. Wont be able to make it this week, hopefully be there for next
