  1. Hi Chris, Yes non-members (over 18) are welcome to participate at confined events as a taster with the option to join at a later date. He will not be able to win the trophy though - at least in part because you will be faster than him!
  2. I'll come and help marshal for this. Having been out for a few hills today I realise I'm not in form for posting a respectable time so am opting out of riding!
  3. I'm sure other members have better ways, but the way I do this is to squeeze the brake lever to hold the pads onto the rim in the right position before tightening the bolt holding the pad onto the calliper. That way the surface of the brake pad is parallel to the rim's braking surface and as the pad wears it can be adjusted using the same technique to keep the pads aligned.
  4. This is the last Confined Event of the season, and is on the morning of the Club Anniversary Dance. The road will be closed for the event, and the schedule is: 09:30 Road Closed 09.45 Sign on 10:00 Road open for practice 10:30 Senior event starts 11:00 (approx) youth event 12:00 Road open to traffic Any volunteers for timekeeping / marshalling? We need 2 timekeepers, 1 holder upper & 2 marshalls to guide traffic around the closed road. Please post if you intend to ride, or are able to help. The route is as per previous years, but here is a link for anyone who has not done it before: JWCC Hill Climb Route
  5. A couple of photos from the first day of this years Rothesay weekend: Karen G. starting out on the hill climb, and Team Archibald in full flight on the 2-up TT.
  6. The last of this years practice hill climbs before the club championship on Saturday 1st Oct. Start at 18:30, so meet a few minutes before. As usual two helpers to timekeep and hold-up will be appreciated. The route is on this link for anyone who has not done it before: JWCC Hill Climb Route Lights are recommended, particularly if planning to cycle home.
  7. A great day out, thanks for organising it Allan. Good company, good food, a few hills and a stiff breeze. Nine of us went round the island and nearly all went up the Serpintine before a feed stop and the ferry back. The ferry diversion to Gourock added a bit of interest, as well as some miles for those with a car at Weymss Bay! I hope everyone got home OK.
  8. I solved this last year by moving the turbo to a spare bedroom, it avoids having to go out in the cold and wet to get to the turbo but I'm told that it can be heard throughout the house when the turbo is going full blast! It also means the kids that have left home are less likely to come back!
  9. I've been holding off on posting on this pending a favourable weather forecast - but it's now looking good so I plan on being there and have negotiated the appropriate pass-out! Will be cycling to the ferry from Kilmacolm, so will join the bunch in Option 1 above at around 08:30 at the Pullman. Looking at the thread it looks like the bunch cycling down so far is just Allan and Morna, any other to help us along?
  10. The second of the hill climbs, second time may be even more painful! Start at 18:30, so meet a few minutes before. As usual two helpers to timekeep and hold-up will be appreciated. The route is on this link for anyone who has not done it before: JWCC Hill Climb Route Lights are recommended, particularly if planning to cycle home.
  11. I've got £21 to transfer to the club bank account, all 6 adults paid plus a back payment from Dave C. for the 2-up championships on 21st Aug. A good turnout on what was a damp evening, thanks to Paul L. and Campbell C. for officiating and helping to make it a fun (if painful) event! I've just looked up last years Brunetti Shield results to see how the times compare, and have pasted them below. It looks like Dave C is on better form than last year, but we all need to put some work in if we're going to win on 1st Oct. The times from the 2015 Club Hill Climb Championship: Alan McBride 1 32 Richard Montague 1 34 Danny Mulholland 1 35 Hamish MacLaren 137 Charlie McLeod 1 45 Adam Hazle 1 54 Colin McPhee 1 54 Iain Couttie 2 7 Alan Thomson 2 16 Dave Cowan 2 17 Colin Howard 2 18 Lusia Steele 2 22 Graham Findlay 2 22 Robert S 2 23 Morna McLean 3 7
  12. The first of this season's hill climbs, it's not very long but it's painful! Start at 18:30 this time, so meet a few minutes before. As usual two helpers to timekeep and hold-up will be appreciated. The route is as per previous years, but here is a link for anyone who has not done it before: JWCC Hill Climb Route The nights are closing in, so it may be worth having lights, particularly if planning to cycle home.
  13. A big turnout this evening, with 12 riders. The results were: Alex B. 16:34 pd Iain Couttie 16:47 pd Gerard 16:57 pd PB Billy 17:01 Ian McGinty 17:31 pd Alan T. 17:35 pd Dave C. 17:47 pd Joe 18:51 pd PB Lusia 18:55 jet PB Steven K. 19:44 pd PB Chris T. 20:15 pd Beth 21:53 pd Well done to all riders, it's good to see some different faces this week - as well as the regulars, and thanks to Karen and Kenny for helping out. 10 riders paid, £30 for club funds plus my £3 from the 2-up on Sun. 21/8, so £33 will be transferred to the club bank account. Billy has £3 due as he had lost his money! Next week it's the first of the hill climbs at Howwood, building up to the club hill climb championship on 1st Oct.
  14. We had two scheduled Langbank Hillys back in March, but one was cancelled due to weather, the results from the other one were: 1. Alan M 25:38 2. Iain C 26:32 3. Alan T 27:51 4. Iain M 27:56 5. Gerard 30:08 6. Mike 33:46 That's 20, 15 and 10 points respectively for Alan M., Iain C., and Alan T. So tomorrow could decide whose name will go on this trophy:
  15. Is anyone going to ride this? I'm happy to timekeep, but I'll do the gardening if nobody's going to ride!
  16. The tenth and last of this year's scheduled Chocolate Series of TTs, and an opportunity to practice the course for the Georgetown Cup on 3rd Sept. First rider off at 18:45, so meet at 18:30 at the usual place towards the Inchinnan end of Georgetown Road. Here is a link to the course: JWCC Georgetown Road TT Route Two volunteers please to timekeep and hold-up / push-off. Note the earlier time as the nights are closing in!
  17. I plan to come along and timekeep for this, but if we end up with more helpers than we need then I'll ride!
  18. This is the last of this years Langbank Hillys, the start is in Langbank, just along from The Wheelhouse restaurant. The course runs up the B789 all the way to the small roundabout in the middle of Houston, where you turn and re-trace most of the way back to Langbank. The end of the course cuts off to the left before the last steep sections and finishes at the entrance to Gleddoch Country Club. Here is a link to the route: http://www.mapmyride.../view/650383978 An undulating course making a change from the usual flat TT routes, open to those who intend to join the club or are already a member. Two volunteers please to timekeep and hold up.
  19. Thanks for the reminder Alan, there were just 4 of us at the start, so we agreed to time ourselves and ride as 2 pairs, the times were: Gerard & Alan McM. 17:48 Dave C. & Graham F. 19:40 In the excitement of the event nobody remembered about the entry fee, so £3 outstanding from each of us, but we did remember to go and find a cafe to help us recover! (Berny's)
  20. Sounds fun but I can't make that date I'm afraid, family commitments. Hope you have a good day out!
  21. I'll come along for this and pair up with whose-ever arm I can twist. I'll be looking to go for a bit of a cycle afterwards too, anywhere so long as there's a cafe involved!
  22. The ninth of this year's scheduled Chocolate Series of TTs, and an opportunity to practice the course for the Georgetown Cup on 3rd Sept. First rider off at 19:00, so meet at 18:45 at the usual place towards the Inchinnan end of Georgetown Road. Here is a link to the course: JWCC Georgetown Road TT Route Two volunteers please to timekeep and hold-up / push-off.
