  1. That was grim... And only made grimmer by nearly getting killed by a range rover overtaking Josh coming the other way, having to stop at the roundabout and then slipping my back wheel making the turn! Even the two coats of nuclear srength embrocation weren't keeping it out and it took a long while to stop shivering on my return home! Well done to everyone who took the line, much easier to just go home. Special mention to Greig for timekeeping still in his bike gear.
  2. Why am I even slightly tempted by that?
  3. The good folks at Duvel Moortgat have lent me some clarity I did everything right for 6 weeks leading up to that, my HR was exactly where it should be for the whole ride and, by and large, I was riding as well as I did last year until the last km. Can't get too upset, especially given the quality of the field (I think catching a few people early gave me a real boost last time!). Good thing about this time of year is that there's always another race pretty soon, so just got to keep doing the little things until then!
  4. Grr...20:54 so about 45s slower than last year and 15th out of 50. Absolutely died in a cross/head wind in the last KM. Winner was Ali Robinson in a new course record of 17:36
  5. Don't think so Jan, I was thinking about Kingscavil but moving house has put paid to that. Think the calender is Hartside, Whinlatter, Club Champs and the Nationals at the end of October.
  6. Well, Hillclimb season is upon me once again! I'll be travelling down on Saturday to take this on. Startsheet looks promising bar the inclusion of my good friend/ arch nemesis Ali Robinson on his comeback from injury. He's giving me a lift out there but wants to start his warmup 90 minutes before he's off
  7. An abomination against nature, that's what.
  8. Apologies Charles, must've been beofre my 3rd coffee.
  9. Well I'll do that if our champs aren't on that weekend! Struggling for races between then and the nationals however
  10. Thanks to Martin and Billy for timekeeping, and to Iain Couttie for loan of his super helmet. A lovely bit of kit, I may have to invest! Right, onwards to Hartside!
  11. Apologies for jumping the gun on this, but I saw the moving around of the 2 up champs and didn't want it to get lost in the mounting up of the calender. I missed out on it last year and am super keen for this! I am happy to lend a hand organising up to and including the road closure I understnad is usual, but i may need to be pointed in the right direction!
  12. Isn't that the Club Hill Climb Champs?
  13. 16/09 works better for me, I wasn't going to ride it on the 18th due to the first of the club hill-climbs coming up on the 20th. Can't make the 22nd either as I'm away at the Whinlatter HC on the 23rd.
  14. I'm in. Team Calamity rides again!
  15. I quite like the current kit, but mainly as it mirrors Warrington Rugby League's famous Primrose and Blue colours! Just a note on obsolete kit, Velo Club Cumbria were changing their kit quite radically just as I left, but even then there were a variety of generations of kit being worn at confined and even open events. I'm fairly certain Brian Payton's pasty derierre will still be poking out of the pin-holes on his 10 year old skinsuit when I ride Whinlatter at the end of the month. People just tend to replace stuff as it needs replaced, it's no reason to not make changes and most commissaires aren't going to be fussed as long as your kit is vaguely the right colour and says "Johnstone Wheelers" on it.
  16. Pleased with that, a win for the ladies, 2nd for the men and a PB by 16s for me. Only downer was a puncture to a tub I glued on last Sunday on the way home ... makes 9 for the year
  17. I'll meet you guys where the BoW section of the cyclepath meets the road, just up from Deafhillock roundabout...0930?
  18. Was planning on leaving mine at 0915 Paul, which way are you coming?
  19. Anybody else seen this? http://inrng.com/2012/08/can-liggett-save-armstrong/ The bloke has either gone stark raving mad or... nope, cant think of an option 2
  20. Oh and a young lady gave me a cheery "Hi Campbell!" in BoW Co Op on my way home, you may want to drop by fella
  21. Glad to hear Mark is OK (to an extent!) Thanks to John and Greig for their fast acion marshalling traffic, Kenny for the on-the-tarmac first responder stuff and Ian Cowden for giving the poor guy a lift a l'hopital! Thanks Ian also for time keeping and Ian McGinty for postin gup the times, that PB should help Mark on the road to recovery! I reckon it could have been faster if not for some old dear in a Micra on the way into Houston too!
  22. Alas not Ramsay, a bog sandard Giro Advantage for me! Getting your excuses in early for Saturday then? "I'd have been 20s quicker if I had that helmet!"
  23. Thanks for setting my mind at ease Ramsay, I thought ringers for a saturday morning short-course TT was a bit of a stretch.
