  1. So much for the steady run 'round the coast! Myself, Colin, Frank, Jim, Paul, and Daryl headed out from Miller St and the pain started! I intentionally put my tyre on skewed so that I could get a breather in BoW. Thanks to everyone for the tow and encouragement!! I managed up the Healy but only thanks to some magic potion coffee and carrot cake! New Years Resolution: never go on a "nice steady ride" that involves people who do not need to stop for carrot cake! Thanks for a memorable last ride of 2008 and lang may yur lum reek!
  2. I hope to join you, however, I still haven't received full authorisation in triplicate.... Will post tomorrow and confirm either way
  3. A great ride in almost perfect conditions! I can't confirm the winners of the sprints as I am affraid I was "enjoying the scenery"! All the best for the Bells!
  4. Count me in too! Hopefully we can take a route that doesn't include rabid wolves! Frame pumps all round just in case
  5. Hope the leg gets better soon! You will need to take a course in creative writting - I would have described it as "a viscious assault by a pack of blood thirsty wolves"!!! It sounds much more dramatic! The quote of the day was from the farmer who said in his dogs defence that "not many people come down this way"..... PS I have consulted expert legal opinion and I think you could get that dog done for racially aggrevated assault!
  6. Thanks Lesley Enjoy the rest of your weekend! I hope the roads are better tomorrow than they were last Sunday!
  7. Hi All I haven't been out in a while and I have noticed a few posts concerning different start times. Is there a group heading out at half nine for some decent miles and maybe some decent cake?
  8. The rumours are true - here is the photographic evidence....... http://www.spiegel.de/fotostrecke/fotos ... cle=581605 PS Nice bib shorts!
  9. Hi everyone sorry can't make this one I have been grounded by physiotherapist for a few weeks. Bad knee caused by missing screw from cleat and poorly set-up bike position. Enjoy your ride and I hope to see you all soon! Regards David
  10. Sorry can't make it this Sunday as I am designated parent. I hope that you have a great ride!
  11. I hope you guys missed the rain! Martin and I went home via Faslane, Rhu and then Helensburgh where we parted company. I couldn't maintain his pace and opted for a steady return to Paisley and I even managed to resist the lure of the seaside cafes! I got 110km in 5 hours, door-to-door, and was back in Paisley for cake and coffee at Barshaw Park at the back of two. Martin, thanks for the tow and lucozade!
  12. I have been given clearance from air traffic control for Sunday so I vote for Dennis and Arochar! This could turn into the JWCC equivalent of Pop Idol with everyone voting for their favourite 9h30 route
  13. Any ideas on how long that will take? My success at negotiating a Sunday pass is now directly linked to an accurate finishing time and my wife's horse riding schedule.........
  14. Lesley Sounds great, count me in! See you on Sunday.
  15. As a relative new comer to the club and a family man I would like to say that I appreciate the choice of two groups. For anyone considering jumping to the longer run - do it! I went straight into the 09h30 group and my fitness and enjoyment increased dramatically. Although I have struggled to hold the pace at times I have only ever had encouragement from the group. The only pressure I felt was from myself! I like the idea of a pre-planned route and would be willing to take my turn. However, would it not make sense to have both groups starting at the same time? 1. This would allow people to join the 9h00 bunch if the others didn't turn up. 2. Also the 9h00 guys could tag along with the others for a while (better publicity for the club in the imediate area). 3. This would also, I think, make it less daunting to move across to longer rides as you would know the 9h30 group a bit better. Any thoughts?
  16. Chung, Mike and myself made-up the bunch this morning! Weather was great although slightly chilly. We headed down the cycle track to Kilbirnie then over to Largs. We then went up Brisbane Glen, although it was a tight squeeze between a JCB on one side and a very deep hole on the other. As Mike commented: who needs to pay £49 to ride on closed Pitlochry roads when thanks to Scottish Water you can ride Brisbane Glen traffic free. We then dropped down into Port Glasgow and I was dropped on the Kilmacolm Road climb! Mike was obviously feeling strong but he did mention that he had done some "hills" last weekend. We then headed back for home via Quarriers and BoW. I did 90km door-to-door so not bad for a come-back ride. All in all a great ride and Chung and Mike were great company - cheers!
  17. Hi, is there a bunch this week? I've grounded the last few weekends due to exams/family. I have sucessfully negotiated a Sunday pass and the sun is shining!
  18. Count me in for this as well, sounds ideal! Is this an informal ride as I have a mate who is not a club member who would like to tag along? Cheers
  19. PowerBar Gel £1.25 Waterproof cycling jacket £49.00 Polar Heart Rate Monitor £150 Forgetting the clocks went forward and turning up a clubhouse at twenty past ten........priceless!
  20. Had such a great time last week (holding down my breakfast) at the Kyhber Pass and Crow Road that I have been looking forward to this all week. The main thing I learned is that Chung's estimation of time is as good as his navigation!!! He told me we would be back for two o'clock - including a coffee stop! My better half was not too pleased when I limped home at a quarter past three, and that was without a coffee break! Glad you made it back ok Colin. Mark was very gracious and pretended that he wasn't holding back for me, however, I was very happy when we stopped for a Mars Bar before the HC ascent of the Pont du Erskine. Does anyone have a particular route in mind for this Sunday? Hope to see you all there.
  21. Hi Chung I will be heading out on Sunday morning as well. See you then. Regards David
  22. Thanks for a great Sunday morning! This was my first ride out with the club, my first time riding in a group and my very first time trial - in fact first for everything except for my splits! However, I am totally hooked and looking forward to the next one!
