  5. Dave was one of the first to welcome me as a new club member and in a very short space of time grew to be a very good friend and source of great humour, he will be sadly missed but never forgotten, He was one of the guys who made the 'joansin' exactly what it is ... a welcoming, friendly cycling club.My thoughts are with his family.
  6. where did all the good weather come from, like a spring day, apart from the very light rain which was quite refreshing A good steady pace set by bill and kenny macd.. as i steadily pushed from the back, flying all the way to helensburghpassed one of the best cafe stops north of the river....Ardaden garden centre.... but these guys coulnd'nt be swayed... onwards and upwards helensburgh at last , just as the half niners caught up...for medicinal reasons a short stop was taken by bill and i , while the kenny charged on to catch up with the half niners... . another great outing, with a great lesson in cadence just watching kenny macd working away... sorry will have to miss the next two weeks as next weekend in dundee british army ceilidh, and following week overseas again....mllport.
  7. Hi Al, bill T and I will be meeting at junction of ardgryffe crescent and georgetown rd at nine... see you there, bill may be a couple of minutes (fashionably late).. BUT only if weather permitting. Cheers Ian.
  8. sounds like my kind of event , count me in to man the corners, note head counts and operate the stopwatch,, all while holding the coffee flask, yes willing to help if earlier on thurs evenings...
  9. what was all that slippy cold stuff???? On roads in a tragic state of non repair we soldiered on..a great run but a very late start to the niners allowe the remainder an easy catch up (only jokin). Just as bill, kevin and i arrived at fenwick and i had uttered the immortal words.... 'i know a wee shop roon here that does bril rolls and sausage etc' we were ambushed by the flying half niners going so fast we got sooked right the shop... accompanied them through fenwick and last seen as they flew doon waterslapitintoyou rd and vanished. weather fairly cold but not too bad, round circuit and back the same roads, several times caught on what appeared dry and safe surface only to feel bike slide away not due to acceleration, managed to stay up,,,,but not helped by nutter in large 4 x 4almost on my back wheel through two bends not long after passed by jim and martin.Safe descent of howood hill and both bill forgot the sprint for the thirties... just as well as i had sod all left... a great day out and a good banter from all involved .and certainly got the best of the weather as i now look out at the snow covered roads and vehicles . thanks bill for your patience . .. see you next sunday.. regards Ian.
  10. pros....only between cafe stops.
  11. in bill and my days, yer uniform would have BEEN DONE IMMEDIATELY after previous parade.... wi that 'up and at em' don't tell em yer name....response....i think they must have stopped putting that stuff in the tea cos the effect is wearing off !!!??? : so to the point in hand, who's doing the soup ?.. If necessary we can return to the hall for a wee cuppa and a chat...and to answer Janzas query, in really bad weather etc a big cup of tea and a big chat... Will post early sun after talk to bill(groupen gaffer) if things look unrideable. Regards Ian.
  12. Who appointed bill and i as group leaders?????yer aff yer heed, can hardly read a paper never mind a map... Promotion to joint leaders must have something to do with our speed last week . Will be there for nine o clock group, hope weather holds from today with just a little more sun several degrees hotter . good to hear young greg is going to escort a soup warmer/igniter back to the clubhouse, should at least mean bill and i get a bowl of the stuff on our return if the 'Daly posse' dont overtake us .. see you all at nine ... regards ian.
  13. thanks for the positive comments lads.... hopefully more to come, was'nt the cafe stop brill,,,, Ramsey , you may well have seen us before, we have been on the go for almost fifteen years ... and still trying to get it right,,,it may have been the high speed low altitude dancin that left you feelin reelin. Regards ian
  14. great to be back and out on these well cared for roads...nine o clock bunch left this morn from houston bill and myself 09.15... withthe hope of perhaps meeting red flash john at the old red smiddy junction and kenny steel at the bishopton lights . The bunch never got any bigger than two..but made 'spelling' rather easy !!!! none of this wheelin aboot up the middle doon the ootside etc and oot the nearest closemouth as per article.....We followed the given route bishopton, langbank, A8 , port glw and put small ring to good use on clune brae whit a doddle that was...then on to the neverending uphill drag on road from auchenbothie rd to Greenock rd...brill fun....slippy roads but no shouting from us... at one point handle bars were interlocked and we still remained upright both accepting partial blame through an unexpected senior moment... still flat out and not a half niner in sight... whit a breeze...especially when being dragged along in bill's slipstream. up past the guide camp where the archers were rehearsing . no sign of gritters on this road, some hairy moments but survived.. expecting to be ambushed by at least some of the later bunches.... but no signs... down howood rd to cycle track and back to the club rooms visualising the much awaited bowl of soup....not too much to hope for from a man renowned for cafe stops, not even mentioned on run so far !! into millar st 11.35 hs and GATES SHUT CLUB HOOSE SHUT bill and me were near to greetin *^"$%^$!!!!! had we got the day wrong ???had we gone far to fast for the others???? BUT NAE SOUP !!! A leasurely rerun back up to perhaps see some of the sprinters approach the thirty's nae luck, out past the joansin skool beith rd nae sign. Right at roundabout back down to clubrooms....nae sign.. the miles fair pilin up..worthy of at least two cafe stops...still nae soup..A brief bunch meeting agreed a dash back to houston and a bowl or two of our own soup along wi a dod or two of toast..... A great run 43 miles door to door with a very fit bill, great patter and the best of the weather as it appeared to cool down again after twelve...thinking of the previous post re the bunch manouvers when moving off from the lead......will perhaps put that to music and incorporate it in next ceilidh virginia reel or orcadian strip the willow ! look forwar to next sunday.. regards ian.
  15. light emmitting diode zep who ??? more chance of the graff zep.. .naw its def a ceilidh, fancy dress optional..gay gordons in lycra ? the mind boggles... lots of good dances and will teach you some new ones ....that's assuming your fit enough after all these roller sessions,( without cafe stops) looking forward to seeing you all again... may be out this sun. cheers ian .
  16. Hi davie, ye know i never thought of that!!! mabye i didnae need a triple thingy after all, ( triple front sprocket or whateverits called) not a mac d triple burger.. I will reserve judgement untill i view them doing a dashing whiteish seargent at thirty mph.. ..nd of the month. . Havnae seen you for ages hope you are well and still training.. I'm getting oot during the week for fifteens/twenties with the odd hill thrown in when i canny find a way roon it ,, all the best for 09. see you soon. regards, ian
  17. well done to all, but Kenny...surely cafe stops are compulsory and obligatory after at least some of that suffering... these lads have a great future if they dont peak/ puke too soon !!!!!! regads ian.
  18. yup back out at last, thought i had performed a repeat of colin's solo appearance from last week.. spoke to martin yesterday amid his frantic rush to bag pack scouts at bidge of weir and agreed a meet at miller st 0915. The time came and went, so held on for the ninethirtiers, and that time came and went. As i was ready to set of on an easy sixty ha ha , colin rolled in followed a few minutes later by david jack, then ....yes guess who Martin M.. saying morrison's clock was considerably slow,, what an excuse and how he sees it from his bedroom i dont know!!!!!!. after exchange of greetings the bunch rolled off towards lochwinnoch via a frosty but otherwise manageable track. followed usual route to RNAD and struth knows how many laps were done of that....up hills doon hills etc all in glorious sun shine..and a very patient bunch waited for me at the top of all the later uphill bits... how can colin keep a straight face when he knowingly spouts.... 'thats the last one' perhaps meant the last one he was gonna push me up ... hey the wee ring works a treat by the way....back home the usual route and down a fairly icy hill from greenacres to howood.. the usual sprint for the thirty signs but unable to report on a winner as i was too far behind and could'ny see. A belter of a day, great run scenery and company,, thanks guys, should be there next sun, for nine fifteen bunch, but hope to get out again before that... Cheers Ian PS not a cafe stop in sight. and forty miles from door to door.
  19. first outing on winter bike since rebuild today.....could have tried the weeeee ring on the hill up to mr mansons hoose... will drop letter through his door , sorry regards ian.
  20. HI guys, sorry i missed the bunch this morn, but nice to see you are thinking of me, yep bike all ready no more excuses apart from my body seems to be disintegrating .... ,, back, hips, knees... in fact just about all joints involved in producing locomotion,, perhaps too many cafe stops have led to this. ? but the idea of a frying pan, well ??. will continue with the ibopruf..or whatever they are and the occasional cocodamol thingy. reegards,, ian ps where's 'davie r' these days...poss secret practice on the 'georgrtown rd'
  21. Davie, i may have found your get out clause, on preliminary application for mobile cafe sited on georgrtown rd( as per your spelling). the coonsiloperative said he couldny find it so therefore as he had nae offishial note of above mentioned locus, he wusnie prepared to waste cooncil time , paper and money on a duffyvannette catering mobile or other such bike/mobile traydevices licence.. Hope this is of assistance to you, of course it still has to be ratified by our legal reps.....Macdonald & co. cheers ian.
  22. nothing's beyond that man's ability, but it might scratch my newly painted frame,, just have to make do wi a flask in ma hip pocket and i'll carry yer rolls under ma oaxters !! so as you can help yourselves if he worst happens i could always comandeer the bbj caravenette and serve wi side door open
  23. davie, go for it maaaan, i will set up a rolling cafe roll/stop for you ..colin gets none of it (only to help his post festive season diet) somewhere along the route on a very flat secdtion to prevent the tea cups and saucers slidin aff my tray as i try to keep up wi yooz.!!!!! ? wot change of clocks are you refering to?
  24. good one davey, the fur coat isnae far from the truth my thoat and chest have been invaded by the dreaded lurgie, feeling like the fur coat has got stuck in my trachea ??? or something, will not be appearing tomorrow for that reason, but you lads push on and tackle the options A and B in the knowledge that you wont be getting pushed . bbj making brill job of stead and should be rolling next weekend for def, have a good one ..... regards ian
  25. How big!!!!! a one in whitmany ,, are you boastin again kenny, bike being repainted today, but have option of powder coating ? which would take longer, but bbj may not be avail to reassemble and 'fine tune' due to a family wedding. towards end of week will have to wait and see might appear on summer bike weather permiting and stay at back (where i usually am) to avoid spraying anybody cheers see you sun, ian.
