  1. Sorry to post this but I don't know which of you organised committee folk will set the event up. Please could you check this link, http://www.everydaycycling.com/events.aspx?fid=485, which suggests that the 70 mile ride is "easy". Isn't 70 miles the hard option? Can we change/stop this mistake going onto the JWCC site when the event is formally announced? May I be the first to volunteer to help out (Oh no, I've offered to help and I'm sober. Better get my brain scanned.) Off topic: Duncan Thomson and I are in the Edinburgh NYD triathlon so we'll try to fly the club flag high. Cheers Alan
  2. Right, I've had enough. Every single nice route into Glasgow is flooded. Inchinnan Road, BoW, West Glen Road, Langbank/Finlaystone Road, Houston, Georgetown are now part of some weird futuristic Waterworld. I'm just waiting for Kevin bl**dy Costner to drop off the mail. The only good thing is watching Stevie Blom cycle through the flood in BoW High Street every morning about 0815. He must have gills. Roll on spring.
  3. We three stooges caught a l*ft in the v*n from Luss to Tarbert after two punctures. Many thanks to Martin and Allison for looking after us. My friend, Martin B, came on his first bunch ride on the understanding that this ride was "not a race" and would be "scenic". Ha! After the Rest all I saw was Chung's bottom and rear wheel at 35 kph for about 30 miles. Great day.
  4. Thanks Stephen, I joined the Renfrew bunch for a spin tonight. Phew! That was a fast way home to Kilmacolm. No mercy on Westferry. Thanks to stevie b. for looking after me in the bunch ( I know you were just cruising at the front at over 50 kph). I'll need a week to recover.
  5. I might join the bunch after working late in Glasgow, interesting way of getting home to Kilmacolm. Which night do the bunch go out? Is anyone from JW joining them this week?
  6. Doug glad to hear you're speaking to Sustrans. Why not get some scaffolding and repaint the spiky tower at the A737 bridge? Or do you have friends with a few tons of tarmac to complete the last 200 yards of track at Linwood? Instead of 40 people for one day only perhaps you could spread out the work over many weeks to keep a section clear for months in smaller groups. Hope it goes well. best wishes
  7. Doug Great to hear about your plan. A few comments. Litter picking is best done on a clear, winter's day when all the leaves have gone. You won't see 5% of the rubbish in September. Sustrans (actually the council and contractors) already do a lot of track maintenance, their hedge cutter probably does the work of ten men. All of the track belongs to someone so you should be careful to avoid overenthusiastic gardening. Are you aware that there is a local Sustrans ranger who patrols this area ? It's "his" track" and I suggest you speak to him. I've lost his tel. number, but I'm sure Sustrans could put you in touch. With the exception of the ned hangouts discussed above the path is great from P Glasgow to the 737. Local people keep our path pretty clean so I don't think it needs much help up this end (Kilmacolm, BoW, Quarriers) The main problems are litter along most verges and graffiti/nedism at Linwood. The lovely mural under the bridge just before the 737 has gradually been destroyed. Why not ask Sustrans if you could revive it? Or ask them if any other jobs need done? How do we get the kids of Linwood/PG to use the track for exercise instead of drinking? Just a thought. All the best.
  8. Thanks Stephen I've been sucked into some kind of family, vortex nightmare thing. My wife's at tennis that night and I'm taking my daughter to Brownie's. My nice new JW jersey must remain unworn another week. Please cheer me up; does anyone know how much is being done to the Georgetown Road? Is it all being resurfaced? How smooooooth will it be?
  9. What's League 10? Race, TT, APR or what? Any good for those new to the club?Advice welcome.
  10. I was at Georgetown (I think) alone and lonely at 1840 last night (11//4). I was at the TA building on the B790 just off the A726. Was this the wrong time/place or were you all hiding? What's happening next week?
  11. I'll come and would like to do an APR but I don't believe it's not a race. I've only done three bunch rides this spring with the club but they all ended with a testosterone-fuelled blast. Looking forward to it. Duncan (above) and I should form our own lardynovice group with a 100m exclusion zone. (Sorry Duncan but the truth sometimes hurts). Do folk recommend mudguards for this or should I bring the nice summer bike? Advice welcome.
