  1. Duncan, Jim and I went to Bute and were promptly dropped. Jim had already done the TT in the morning so at least he had an excuse. No glory today but beautiful weather on the island and a great day oot. It was good to see the thirty milers who had done a lot more than 30 miles when we met them in Rothesay. Thanks for the support. RR result for wheelers, (22 starters): Alan McLean, about 11th Duncan Thomson, about 14th Jim Daly, DNF. Full TLI results awaited. Anyone going to Callander next Sunday? Twice over the Duke's pass? (Hope they have a big vomit bucket at the top.) Regards Alan
  2. OK Jim. I hope to see you at the RR. Duncan is nae weel. Anyone else? regards A
  3. Hill climb results Tuesday 20/9/07: Top marks to those who turned out in disgusting weather: Jim Daly 2.16 (Fixed) Harry Blaine 2.32 (PB, congratulations) Alan McLean 58 seconds (Ford Mondeo, 2 litre diesel, dry and comfy) Regards Alan
  4. Thanks for the link Kenny. I'm not sure they caught my best side though...
  5. Duncan Thomson and I are planning on at least one day at the forthcoming TLI weekend. I am trying to persuade him to commit to the road race on Sunday. Anyone else entering this? Regards Alan
  6. Great racing. 38 starters. JWCC represented by Jim, Simon, Russell, Chung and me. hats off to: 1st Aaron Murray, velo Ecosse 41'13", 2nd Hamish McLean, bicycle works 3rd Graeme Cockburn, Ivy. (We never saw them after the first lap) Jim Daly and I hung on in the chasing group and finished in a bunch. Me and Jim 12th and 15th respectively at 53". Bit wet. Exciting corners. Managed to clip a barrier but stayed upright. Nice to see so much support but some of you should really have been racing. You know who you are. Regards Alan
  7. Stall the start guys! Domestic emergency may stop me competing (Son unexpectedly picked for footie team). I'm leaving Lochwinnoch at 1100 enroute for Glasgow Green by 1135(?). If I'm not signed on by closing time (1145) then one of you lurkers are welcome to my place. All paid up, I don't need the entry fee back. (Anyway it will be p***ing doon.) A
  8. PS I can muster 85 watts of HID and halogen if that's any use. We could probably cook on my 45 watt halogen. A
  9. Hello can you give me a provisional idea of the timetable, folks? Regards Alan
  10. Just received list of entries for Saturday from organiser, Tom Forbes. In the noddy race JWCC is represented by Chung, Russell, Jim and me. Paul McD is with the grown-ups in the proper support race. Good luck Paul. There are twenty-three entries so far. Only ten Cat 4/vets. If we could get another couple of club members we will have a real team. Highly recommended some more of you join us for the forty minute race. Old blokes who fancy road racing, you know who you are... Only a couple of ladies so far, and there are prizes down to third place in all categories. PM me if you can't find the SC links, they're a bit opaque. Regards Alan
  11. Oops. Slightly eating my words. Brookfield to BoW is lovely now (Of course the cars are going mental fast) and I have just been on the resurfaced Elderslie/Johnston road. Lovely. Top marks to renfrewshire council. A
  12. Er.. the dancing banana is not so cool in HTML. Congratulations again. Come to the crit on saturday. You and Kerry must have a great chance at the ladies race.
  13. javascript:emoticon('Oh%20ya%20dancer%20!') Many congratulations.
  14. Just a polite reminder to people to check out http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/ if a local pothole is getting nasty. There seems to be some kindof response from the local councils. The Old Greenock Road at Drums remains my personal nemesis..... Anyone want to start a thread on the "worst local road"? Please feel free.
  15. I haven't seen a list. I received email confirmation from TF with a request for more entries. suggest you phone/email him direct. Regards Alan
  16. I have received confirmation of entry with a request from Mr Forbes for a big turnout from JWCC. Those I have dicsussed with please come along and join in. You know who you are. I had to guess the entry fee which appears to be £10 with an extra £5 day licence if not already a SCU licence holder. Works out about £5 for every minute of racing....
  17. I need to be back in Johnstone by 4 pm but I will be there in the morning. Are there provisional start times? Alan
  18. Right, that's at least six people who may or may not possibly consider perhaps doing the crit. I got stuffed by the grown ups in the Renfrew bunch last night and will have to severely downgrade my already low expectations of performance. May I suggest folk just turn up on the day and enjoy the atmosphere. See you there. A
  19. Good hints from Stevie and Jim. There is a lot of real tactical stuff to learn. If you are entering the crit and would like to work as a JW team then please PM me. If you would like to share your private email address (with other JW only) then let me know and I'll start a little mailing list for "tactical advice". (ie recommended pubs in the Merchant City). It would look great to have half a dozen in club kit at the finish of the Tour of Britain. At least we could try to hang on for a couple of laps in the crit and then watch the real racing. Braehead bunch picking up the pace tonight. 30mph+ along Westferry, only shared among six of us by the end. Top marks to Jamie on a mountain bike (!) on his first big bunch ride. Lasted until Bishopton, hope you got home safely. Alan
  20. Hi Jim I'm filling in my entry form now. Two points: Is it really only five laps over forty minutes? I thought crits would have more, shorter laps. Can we meaningfully work as a team or should we just hang on like grim death and try to enjoy it? I'll be out with Braehead bunch on tuesdays and maybe renfrew bunch on thursdays if anyone wants to meet up and get some sprinting going in the next three weeks. Email/PM me with tactics please, if you have any, or I'll meet you at the above and have a blast. regards Alan
  21. Absolutely fine, Dougie Two minor points for dopers: Get a quick blast of plasma pre dope test to get your haematocrit below the level of suspicion. (Simple dilution, folks) Don't use someone else's blood for transfusion unless you are a complete numpty and a member of Astana. Finally, if anyone from the GMC, WADA or SCU is reading this, these are completely fictional suggestions based on hypothetical situations and JWCC is certainly not a hotbed of doped uber athletes winning every competition they enter. ( I got the last bit right anyway) Bring on the crit, the ladies and juniors will tremble at our presence. A
  22. JWCC were in action at the Aberfeldy triathlon. Only Duncan and I were there. Duncan punctured and DNF'd. I had a good cycle but it was a TRIathlon and the swim and run caused problems. Utterly pi**ing doon and cold the whole day. I couldn't feel my feet for about four hours. It was worse than the Century ride. Quite scary descending the Schiehallion road on greasy tarmac. Please may I have at least one warm summer cycle before the end of this awful season. If anyone else would like to consider an order for a club trisuit then please pm me or ian manson who tells me he may be able to get a small order in with the next big order of cycle kit. Alan
  23. I'm in. If I can get childcare, my wife's away for that weekend. Frank. Please get those forms distributed. I'm away to get some EPO from the renal unit. Wanna shot, anyone? Alan
  24. Frank I will if you will. I'm away til Sunday. Let me know how to sign up if you do it. I would suggest we wear full club kit but I'm not sure all publicity is necessarily good publicity for the club. Can we get some Kooriers gear? If so would they pay us not to wear it? Anyone else want to join? Regards Alan
  25. Jim What an exciting prospect, whizzing around Glasgow, traffic free, with big crowds. I'd llove to do it but unfortunately I am probably about a Cat 6 racer and I reckon I would last about one lap before dropping off. Could you or Mr Gunson please give us an idea of how fast/experienced the field might be? If there are lots of proper Elite/cat1,2,3 then it would be a nonsense for the likes of me to enter. But if there is a true punters' race for vets/cat 4/"ordinary" cyclists then I might enter for a dare, but only if a few other JWCC do as well. Can we get a bunch of JWCC entered? Apart from coming last and bringing dishonour on the club would there be any other potential problems? Regards Alan
