  1. Hi Coby Could it have been another day. I don't recall seeing Stevie either. Mind you it was a pretty big bunch and, apart from the stops, all I saw was a big bunch of faster bottoms. Might have a go this Saturday. A
  2. Here's the route: http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/4914254
  3. Whew! No apologies for new post on this topic. 61 riders signed up in three days. Also 60+ in A race. Hope they close some roads. Five JWCC now signed up in B race. Only 19 places left. Looks like they'll be gone by the weekend. Frank has been so inspired by his massive trophy collection that he has come on board. Couple more teammates would be great. See links in previous postings. Regards Alan
  4. Tour of the Shire completed by Frodo, Bilbo Baggins and Gollum in 2.10. We couldn't catch the first groups and are led to believe that some people didn't go through Erskine as planned. Very poor show. This will be reported to the authorities and appropriate action will be taken. School hols next weekend, see you in 2 weeks. Gandalf
  5. Nice link Duncan. On Saturday night a few of you were very interested in the race. Just click on the link and join us. Four JWCC signed up for B race and 2 in A race already. More the merrier. Alan
  6. Kenny, you're a gent. But I don't think Jim will be taking any prisoners. He was the first one to mention catching groups. Also: Any chance of taking the Old Greenock Road behind Langbank to avoid the A8? The OGR's been resurfaced at Drums although still pretty bumpy coming down past Finlaystone. Bit safer but slower than A8. (I'll do it if you tell me to.) I'll just go and look out my duvet jacket.....
  7. Above refers to Duncan, not our Great Leader, KM, whose post snuck in ahead of mine.
  8. OK I'll go at 10ish but I think it's a big gap. Our only hope is to catch you at the first snow drift. Do none of you guys look at the weather forecast? See you on Saturday night A
  9. Hey Lawyer boy If someone is driving/cycling/walking/unicycling then they have a responsibility to other road users. If a car driver had caused the crash then you would be cheering if he got sued for 370k. Doesn't matter if they know each other. If you caused me to crash badly due to reckless behaviour (like showing me your powertap reading) then I'd get a really good lawyer to sue you ('cos I know you've got British Cycling insurance for £10m and I'd want a bit of it ). You wouldn't lose out personally, apart from becoming bitter and twisted and not coming round for cups of tea. Anyway you should be out training in the basement, away back to your trainer and cheer up. Spring is almost here. A
  10. Hello folks If you can bunch ride and would like to try a road race then please check out the first "Super 6" race of the season. At least four of us are planning on entering from JWCC. Paul and Jim with grown ups, Duncan and I in support race. More the merrier. Several laps of a circular course so no risk of being left in remote hills. Try: http://www.scuonline.org/newsdetail.asp?Nid=1656&DID=2 and http://www.braveheartfund.com/community ... IC_ID=3615 Check out the thread in our Road Race forum. Apologies for double post but it would be good to attract those of you who might not usually look in that forum. Any of you Sunday bunch riders are fit enough to come and have a go in the support race. The organisers will not allow lapsed expert riders to enter the support race so the racing should be fair with reasonably fit club riders and really good juniors and ladies. looks like there will be some kind of family/spectator friendly set up: http://www.edinburghrc.co.uk/index.php?page=137 I'm planning to take wife and children. Suggest you post in the rr forum or PM me/Duncan if interested/unsure. Alan
  11. Hi Potential confusion over which race to enter if a vet/cat 4. Just checked braveheart forum. http://www.braveheartfund.com/community ... IC_ID=3615 No doubt that "ordinary" vets/cat 4 will be in the support race. The organisers are going to chuck any ringers back into the main race so there should be more evenly matched competition at both levels. Paul and Jim, top marks for aiming high. Duncan and I would welcome company in the support race. Only 70 mins from Johnstone. Anyone interested please post or PM us. the race is a few laps of a circular course so even if you're dropped/puncture you won't be left in the middle of nowhere. Alan
  12. Hi Stevie Guys at the front were still spread out two or three across the road but I was hanging on for grim death in the tail of the bunch where it was a case of "follow that wheel." A
  13. Joined the 9 am bunch for a two hour spin. Ahem. Cycle track to Lochwinnoch and ended up in Dalry at 10 and found out there was a plan to go over to Fairlie. Blimey. I thought this was only a 30 mile run. Had to make my excuses and head for home. Hope you all had a good day. Doubtless a full report will appear. The difference between the 9 and 9.30 bunch is waafer thin. Alan
  14. Jim/Paul Can I confirm you're both entering the main race? Think I'll join DT in the support race. ERC website looks good, they're planning a marquee in Gifford for riders/ spectators. Alan
  15. Hi Jim Great run today, thanks for the advice. We caught a gap in the rain. I joined at Bowling with a few others, about 25 in total. Steady up to Arrochar, helpful stops for a couple of mechanicals. It then went a bit mental down L Lomondside. The bunch split at Luss but I hung on in the main bunch. Really good workout. 90k in 2 hrs 40 minutes. Hope you had a good day. one of the guys said he'd seen some Wheelers north of the river this morning, was that you?
  16. Planning on joining this for serious bunch ride with bail out option when dropped. If interested please see my post to Jim Daly in "club runs". Apparently up to forty-five riders.
  17. Jim If the weather is half decent I'm going to join the Anniesland bunch on Sat am. I aim to wait at Bowling roundabout at 1015ish. ( yes I'm driving to Erskine to conserve vital energy.) Likely get my legs ripped off, plan to bail out at renton/helensburgh when dropped. Fancy a spin? Phone me if interested in a lift to the bridge. A
  18. Hi Kenny Is there anywhere convenient in Kilbarchan to leave a car for pickup on Sunday after the run? Looking forward to the night. Alan
  19. Probably join 0900 bunch. Suggest leave Kilmacolm cross at 0825, cycle track, BoW clydesdale bank 0840. Hope to see some of you there. kenny, if you're coming west, can you do a map thing so I can ambush if feeling lazy? Alan
  20. Well spotted. The big Morrison's has taken over your wee shopping centre. Shame. Off to the briggs in May then. Alan
  21. Hi I had a backup light and my backup, backup(sic) light but still needed to divert to the cycle track in BoW for a safe trip home. When you're used to 70 watts a couple of wee LEDs don't really cut it. Milngavie is well distant, nice work. Your times are 30 minutes too early for me but I'll doubtless see you around. A
  22. Long sleeve jersey, Size 4 ss jersey size 4 (both 3/4 zip if there is a choice) 3/4 bib tights, size 4 Bib shorts size 4. Mitts, dunno size Cap Thanks Alan
  23. Hi Coby I knew it couldn't be me at 35mph down that road. well done. I was in today in dirty cold salty east wind, yuck. Lights failed on the way home. Crazee. Do you have a fixed time for the commute? we could meet in Renfrew sometime. PM me if interested. Hope to see you at some events. Long way to Bearsden, safe cycling. Alan
  24. just found this post Kenny. I'd be delighted to form a...um.. "racing" group but: 1. I need some more people like Jim and Duncan "look at my power profile, I commute twenty miles daily" Thomson to join in. 2. Instead of a half hour gap I was planning on, say, four minutes I can only do a couple but looking forward to them Alan
  25. Hi Colin Yes I was on the bike en route for Renfrew Tue am but, 35 mph? In my dreams. Really p*sh weather limits commute at present. If it's not frost, it's mental wind. Only Mr Blom is hard enough to be out in all weather now. OT: Coby, are you Graham Cockburn from the Ivy? Alan
