Administrators Jannza Posted May 21, 2010 Administrators Report Share Posted May 21, 2010 I have a creaky noise / something loose on front of bike. Last night I undid the stem, spacer rings etc and all still looks greased, tightened back up. If you stand in front of the bike and hold front wheel and pull on handlebar there's a bit of movement from where fork joins up to the handlebars. Any ideas folks or do I need to try and get in to mr dooley?
Life Members chung Posted May 21, 2010 Life Members Report Share Posted May 21, 2010 Hi Jan, Try tightening (but don't over do it) the star-nut on top of your fork first before you completely tighten the stem bolts to the fork. This will make sure your forks bearings are firm & compressed properly without any play, which I suspect is whats happening. Try it and see how you get on. Seb
Jan This is quite a common adjustment. There is loads of stuff on the web with pictures etc along the lines of this. http://bicycletutor.com/adjust-threadless-headset/ One reason for the slack could be wear in the bearings so if it feels rough when you try adjusting it would be worth thinking about changing them. They're not that expensive but you need special tools to change them so it's really a job for a shop unless you are really keen. Hope this helps Seb
