Early warning for reliabilities and Don Smith 2008

Sunday 3rd. February Rel. No. 1 :- 40 miles

Sunday 10th. Feb. No. 2 :- 50 miles

Sunday 17th. Feb. No. 3 :- 60 miles

Sunday 24th. Feb. No. 4 :- 70 miles

All reliabilities will have 2 groups . First group will be easy group ( non racers etc) and will depart from clubrooms half an hour before second group.

To qualify for event riders must sign in prior to start and sign out at clubrooms following the event. It is hoped to have soup and sandwiches at end of events.

Relliability rides are an extention of the club runs and are used to build up riders endurance for season ahead hence the increase in distance weekly . They are run as a group ride and riders should keep together as in normal club runs. For the racing guys & gals it has always been accepted that a habble can be held inside last 5 miles( when everyone is safely within riding distance to clubrooms)

Routes will be published nearer the date as will start times.

Sunday 2nd. March :- Don Smith event.

2008 event will move to a new start venue at Lochwinnoch ( Scotlind gym complex)

This has ample car parking , showers, bar facilities and easy access to cycle track .

Traditional coast route will still be used with a few changes to 50 mile event , plus a cycle track option for youths etc.

Great! Something to put in next years diary already!

Had to bite my tongue during the forty-twa's and 30 milers and 9.30 group discussion and managed not to mention reliabilities....

Maybe we could establish the point, purpose, pace and procedures on the 'Reliability Conundrum' before we ride any this year?

Scotlind's Gym sounds good.

Simon

the original format of 2 groups based on ability, following a club run basis worked brilliantly for years. The fast guys swept up the slower bunch giving anyone who had the legs the chance to try and hang on for as long as possible safe in the knowledge that the non combative remnants of the group were behind if they got dropped. Holding bunch together untill last five miles ensured no plane crashes or bodies left behind in unchartered territories.A habble in last 5 miles at end of run gives opportunity for anyone to stretch their legs and show off winter form.

Well I had a fixed wheel once which I quite liked - an old (post buy out) Claud Butler fast tourer (Majestique?)... with nice fat module 4s and 37mm tyres, Dynamo and rack with Brooks B17 wide. Alongha dual pivot deep drops for the original weinmann centre pulls .....you know the sort of thing...

The replacement is an early 90s Muddy Fox Courier MTB complete with under chainstay u-brake ( good idea in California....).... drop bars fitted.....rode it once to a school night out and it survived!

It actuallly has a six speed block ( yes, can you credit it a surviving six speed suntour freewheel!) but no derailleur and the chain is just tensioned onto one sprocket a la Ian Manson.

It's in bits right now but a good winter project to put back together..
