  3. Hi, I have just won a bike on eBay. Is there anyone going anywhere near Mytholmrod in West Yorkshire who could bring it back for me by any chance? Thanks James
  4. Hi I have just won a bike on eBay. Take a look and tell me what you think: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI. ... SA:GB:1123 Now I just need to get it here from err Mytholmrod, West Yorkshire. Anyone going there for a day out? James
  5. Hi Just thought you might like to know that there is cycling on TV tonight on ITV4 at 7.55 or at 8.55 on ITV4+1. Cycling: Vuelta a Espana The final Grand Tour race of the year got under way with stage one, as the riders tackled a 13.5km team time-trial in Benidorm. I always seem to miss these things so I thought someone might be interested. I only caught the 3rd week of the Tour de France Regards to all, James
  6. Thanks Alan et al. Guess you are right. I am just going to have to spend some money. Thanks for your help. I will let you know what I go for. Definitely a cyclo-cross bike. Any suggestions? James
  7. Hi Ramsay Would you like me to see if I can get your frame welded back together? James
  8. Hi Tony Well, this is exciting! . I have measured the callipers from centre of brake block to centre of pivot (vertical measurement), and believe it or not (can hardly believe it myself), the distance is 65mm . That is without moving the brake blocks. Willie says that he has some tyres that would do the job and would fit them to see if there was clearance. Is that all I need to be concerned about? Appreciate your help, James
  9. Well.........the Raleigh Aerlite 300 worked out at £120, I think, but I don't expect to get something for that price. The GT Terra mountaiun bike cost me £100 many years ago. Depends what I go for at the end of the day. A lighter mountain bike, or a proper cyclo-cross bike. I think I should be able to find a cyclo-cross bike for about £300 with a bit of searching about. It really is knowing what makes a bike a cyclo-cross bike. Do you know of any articles on the web or otherwise, which has a "buyers guide" for cyclo-cross bikes? Perhaps there is one in Cycling Plus but I have not seen it.
  10. Hi I would welcome advice on equipping myself for the cyclo-cross season. Last year, my first season, I used an old heavy GT mountain bike . This year I would like to use a bike with drop handlebars, so I at least look the part . Wondering if I can use my Raleigh Aerlite 300 bike with some knobbly tyres. I find these races great fun but in no way am I looking for a place on the podium (not this year anyway!). Suggestions welcome. Thanks James
  11. Hi My son, Hamish, has found a Cateye Velo 5 cycle computer on the Kilmacolm-Lochwinnoch Rd at the junction at Barnbrock. If you think it might be yours and you want it back then please get in touch. Thanks James
  12. Teen Challenge Strathclyde are holding a Sponsored Walk/ Cycle on the Isle of Cumbrae on Saturday 2nd July 2011. All are very welcome. Last year we had a lot of fun, raised a lot of money and it is not too strenuous for kids either as the island is only about 11 miles in circumference without any nasty hills. Most cycle but some will be walking. We usually bring our own bikes and after getting off the boat turn right and go along part of the route first. We bring packed lunches and there is a rather nice tearoom about half way round too. We then meet at the grassy area beside the swing park in Millport and have lunch or some play footie there. On the way back to the boat it’s about a 4 mile trip going via Millport. For the folks "more up for it!" some of us go round again. With others staying with the kids or just chilling. Afterwards there is usually time to explore Millport if you like. During the summer the boats (which are only 10 mins each way) are every 15 minutes or half an hour at meal times so it’s a good service. There are also bike hire places in Millport which if you wanted to use would involve getting the bus at the boat into Millport and choosing which way you wish to go. (Folk do tend to do their own thing!) They do have cycling stuff for small children e.g. trailers etc. Sponsorship forms available from http://freeland.org.uk/freeland/tiki-ca ... temId=1231 We would be delighted for as many people to be involved - and please don't feel any obligation to raise money as we would just be delighted for you to be involved. The plan is to meet at Largs slip for about 0945hrs on Saturday 2nd July, catching the 1015hrs ferry to Cumbrae. The ferry cost is £4.90 return for adults with half fares for children 5-15 and under 5's free. PM me if any problems/queries. Hope some of you can come along with your family as there will be no Jets training this Saturday.
  13. Hi, Thinking of buying a bike a boys mountain bike in Saltburn-by-sea, Cleveland. Can anyone help me by picking it up from the seller and sticking it in a box for collection by a carrier/bringing it back up here? Need to know asap. Thanks. James
  14. 6 May 2011 16:04 Subject: CTC weekly e-newsletter for members included the following item: Cycling sat-navs Cambridge-based CycleStreets has had a good week: it has won a bid for £27,000 from Ordnance Survey social initiative GeoVation. The funding will help the organisation build an advocacy toolkit to help groups across the country campaign for better cycling facilities. Also, in addition to its own excellent app for planning cycle-friendly journeys, it has announced an update to its joint venture with Bike Hub, a cycle ‘satnav’ app, which will help users plot circular leisure routes; the app can include points of interest such as National Trust properties, making it an ideal tool for cycle tourists.
  15. Hi Richard Thanks for your reply. Unfortunatly, I don't think Cardio Trainer is available for an iphone. Maybe it will become available in the future. It sounds a bit like iMapMyRIDE but I have not had much success with this. James
  16. Hi, Interesting article in the April issue of CTC magazine with a pick of the ten most popular cycle apps. You can see the article on the webpage http://www.ctc.org.uk/resources/Magazine/201105052.pdf I would be interested to know what apps any members have tried and found useful. James
  17. It was fun. Will do again sometime.
  18. Sounds fine Brian, is that at the club rooms or somewhere closer to home. Can meet you in kilbarchan if you like? James
  19. Hi Brian Sounds good. Do you want to meet up first thing on Friday morning? Where suits you? James
  20. Hi Brian Welcome. I joined last autumn so also new to this. Let's see who else comes along. We need someone like Tony Corrigan! James
  21. Hi Brian When were you thinking of leaving, and going where? Not sure I'm ready for such a long run but might tag a long for some of it. James
  22. Oops. Its alright Alan , she can't see the Bunch Forum....Can she? Thanks for taking Hamish today. He seems to have enjoyed it very much. Hey, On Thursday, I turned off the Lochwinnoch Road and headed down to Howwood, but not knowing which way you had gone I hopped onto the cycle track to Johnstone. Must re-calibrate my bike computer! May be try and get out again this Thursday. James
  23. Hi Tony Glad to see you have recovered and back on your bike. James
  24. Er, sorry guys. I waited at the tops of the hills for you! Don't know if you all took a wrong turn or something but did not see many of you after I nearly killed myself trying to avoid a barn at the end of a steep hill! That was before Finlaystone. I think I did 27.4 miles in all, right back to the Houston shopping centre. And would you believe it, no punctures! James
