Kenny, is the 9.20 start relating to Sunday's run or Saturday? Duncan

OK despite being trashed in Rothesay race at end of the year, I have decided to try again. How bad can it be I have entered the supporting race for cat4 and various other groups that still sound too fast. Just.."40 miles on rolling course with only one big ring climb" from organisers description. I have added the course, not complete as it should go through Gifford back to the start, should have asked Kenny S how to do it. http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-kingdom/gifford/687999638 web page link for info http://www.edinburghrc.co.uk/index.php?page=137 So my question, is anyone else ready to dip a toe in the water, I assume hardened race vets like Jim Daly will be there, am I right Jim or will you be in the big boy's race? I will try to keep on Alan McLean's wheel as long as possible (not long!) Main aim is not to be dropped by the buch in the first lap of five cheers duncan

sounds good, all apart from the 10am group, nae chance of me going in that. Any ideas Alan McLean may have about chasing down groups ahead are in his head alone I will be happy with a soup at the end. Having done one race last year, trailing in Jim Daly and Alan's wake I do intend to enter some races this year- BIG plan: do not come last cheers duncan

Dalgarven: Aye, that'l be a left turn then...pity nobody else knew about it and were heading towards the coast at speed. Colin gave a good Robbie McEwen shoulder to our leader (mark 2), I was immediately behind and contemplating death or injury as serious application of brakes did nought. Fortunately managed to swerve without hitting anything. Still Martin had the presence of mind to take us to bottom of next short but steep one and on seeing me on his wheel steered me into large deep hole at enge of road taking the preme. He kindly told me that was the way they cycle in Flanders Anyway, ggod ride but weather could have been better. Kenny showed great experience in loosening crank as soon as rain was seen in the distance cheers duncan

Having not ventured out with the 9.30 group, what is the usual time of return to the club rooms and how far do you usually cover? The 9.00 group appeal is because of the earlier start and personally I would go for the 30/42 as a hillier option generally. 'Er indoors not so keen on long Sunday rides into the country with no idea of return time cheers duncan

30 milers/ gallant forty twa 25th. November
duncan thomson replied to Kenny MacDonald's topic in Club Runs
Sorry not to come out on Sunday, but vomiting two year old, (over my hands at one point) prevented venturing outside. Come to think of it, having read the description, I am not sure I wasn't better off indoors Kenny, sorry to hear about the accident, sounds painful, hope you mend quickly. Mind you, you could still turbo... (maybe not a helpful suggestion) Duncan -

Kenny, if you take the 9.30 group, how long is it likely to be out for and what will happen to the 9.00 group with no Kenny (S or Mac) to lead... duncan -
saturday october 27th, anyone? duncan

Kenny, sorry to have missed you after my puncture, surprising really since I had jonly hammered a deep pot hole After melting the ice from my fingers, (these gas cannisters are great for rapid inflation but seriously cold) we set off in hot pursuit. Colin and I hammered along the cycle track believing you were all ahead of us. Colin was telling me about next seasons plans for time trials, I think he started the training early Hope to be back for more in a couple of weeks duncan

September 25 Tuesday 18:30 Hill Climb #2 Howwood
duncan thomson replied to KennyS's topic in Confined events
I have got a pass from the wife. Fresh from a pasting on bute, I will haul my sorry ass up the hill. duncan -
Jim, Thanks for posting picture with me near the front, it certainly did not last long. First road race, first impressions- OH NO! Could not believe the speed of the race, and then it just kept getting faster... Jim did warn me it would be fast from the start, I didn't know bikes could go that fast though. I held on as long as I could with Alan and JIm in the lead as solo breakaway- didn't want to bring the others up to them so went steadily backwards as more riders came streaming through. Was dropped towards end of Mount Stewart climb, it must be 500metres vertical, and then ended up picking up a few riders over rest of lap before most dropped out at halway turn. Migth as well keep going and enjoyed the return pushing as hard as I could with Grant and Trev from "Team Campag" Attempt at glory run into finish with blast from bottom of Mount Stewart hill came to grief half a mile out to leave the two bikes behind to come thorugh. Still by Alans reckoning 14th aint bad, but then again the other way of looking at it was 2nd last! Thanks Jim and Alan, message is I need to train harder than I have been doing I will be back though cheers Duncan

Kenny, I have looked at your link, does the climb finish in the middle of the road? are there any obvious markers, I assumed it wnet to the top beside the bowfield club. cheers duncan ps this does not constitue an interest in doing the hill climb -

Alan McLean and I took a mix of suggested routes taken with first puncture before erskine bridge not a good start. Trailled round bearsden/ milngavie, out to kirkintilloch, past torrance, mollinsburn, slamannan, avonbridge, torphichen, bathgate, livingstone, (another puncture) and then finally edinburgh. Still gmap reckoned on 72 miles- it felt it. Glad I don't live in some of the places we went through and appreciate the cycling options around us even more. duncan
