  1. Sometime ago Brian Smith came out and did a series of coaching sessions at the clubhouse. Personally I benfitted greatly from the "bikefit" session, where I discovered my saddle was 5cm too high ! WIth winter around the corner, would Brian be interested in coming out to advise on what club members should be doing over the offseason months? Cheers, Scott
  2. 10th would be good for me too. How about a karaoke after? Scott

10' 19" 155 169 WILSON Matthew AUS FDJ at 11' 32" Km 15.5 - L'ALPE D'HUEZ - 13.8 km climb at 7.9 % - H.C. Cat The slowest completing tour cyclist (Wilson, AUS, 51mins 13secs) averaged 11.1mph for the 15.5kmTT. This is amazing, as I was gubbed averaging 8mph for the hill section (13.8km). It makes Lance's time all the more impressive (an average of 14.6mph). I think all the holidaying Wheelers agreed, that seeing the tour cyclists at speed up Alpe D'Huez was amazing, and gave you the utmost respect for their fitness and dedication. Some of the expressions on the rider's faces were priceless, and hopefuly a few photographs will be distributed in the weeks ahead so others can see. The highlight for me was seeing the beast Ullrich ride past at speed, total concentration on his face, on trispoke and tri-bars... I was sure he'd won the stage. It made Armstrong's stage victory all the more remarkable. And a final note... From the official tour website discussing Stage 16 ... "Marco Pantani etched his name into the history books with his conquests at L’Alpe d’Huez. This mark of 37 minutes 35 seconds was expected to fall today because the mountain was the only challenge of the stage unlike the day ‘Il Pirata’ reached the climb after 189km were already covered. But Armstrong’s efforts, as impressive as they were, fell short. By just one second!" The pirate will be sorely missed. Looking forward to the next holiday guys. Scott
  6. Glorius sunshine at the moment !

  10. thanks for volunteering me kenny i'd be very interested in attending if spaces are available. I'm flexible on dates, with a slight preference for wednesday AM or fri PM. I would recommend these tests to anyone.. its rare for amateurs to get access to equipment of this nature. My email address is [email protected] Cheers Scott
  11. no prob darryl. I was thinking of you when i put in that comment, though you seemed on the way to recovery on sunday Dont worry, as Kenny said, Mark will be coming back in 6 weeks or so to do follow ups. Scott
  12. Hi guys / gals I imagine the test is similar to the maxpower ramptest described by Ric Stern in this article. Hope this helps. Especially if anyone has been ill in the last month or so. The discussion of using the MAP values in your training is interesting too (perhaps part of the aftercare service Mark provides ) Scott http://www.cyclingnews.com/fitness/?id=powerstern Ric has a few words of fatherly advice... Prior to the Test The test is similar to a ramped test to exhaustion/VO2 max test/stress test, and although relatively short in duration, does require you to push yourself to exhaustion - it is, therefore, very demanding. Accordingly, you should be certain of the following: You are not currently suffering from any viral or bacterial infection, or any other illness You have not had a viral or bacterial infection, or any other illness, within the last four weeks You do not have any injuries or recent injuries Because of the intensity involved, I would caution against eating within two hours of the test, with most people consuming a high carbohydrate meal about hours before the test. In the final twohours prior to testing you should continue to sip on an energy drink.

A possible connection is shown below.. £58.50 09:30 Depart Glasgow (GLA) Arrive London (LHR) 11:00 Sat 17-Jul Duration: 1hr 30mn British Airways 1477 Nonstop flight -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:20 Depart London (LHR) Arrive Glasgow (GLA) 18:40 Sat 24-Jul Duration: 1hr 20mn British Airways 1492 Nonstop flight If there are no surcharges for carrying a bike on both flights (not sure about Air France), and both flights are to/from the same terminal, it looks like a winna. For about £140 people can't go wrong. Maybe you can also advise on car hire
  15. Confirmed travellers so far on option 3 are stevie, dougie, martin, alan and myself Ticket prices including taxes is around £220. Our intention is to hire a car / MPV in Lyon. Let Martin, Alan or the bunch know your travel plans if your wanting to share car hire / transport costs. BA seat prices will go up nearer le tour. Cheers, Scott

  18. If anyone missed this excellent session on fitting, there are resources on the net that could give members an idea if their bike is too wee, or the saddle too high. The free "bike fit" service at the site http://www.wrenchscience.com looks like a good attempt SD
  19. from Russell in France Hello all The calendar for the 2004 cyclosportives that take place in the French Alps has now been released. I have updated the Grenoble Cycling Pages with a list of the 2004 events that are open to anybody. All you need is a medical certificate, and you can take home some great memories, and in some cases a t-shirt/water bottle/rain cape. http://grenoblecycling.free.fr/Grenoble-LocalEvents.htm There are some new events in 2004, such as La Madeleine, and some events have sadly disappeared. There are also a number of events that have moved in the calendar, including the Megeve Mont Blanc which is now taking place in June instead of August. If you can't get a place on the Etape du Tour, or you feel the Marmotte is not the best introduction to riding in the Alps, or are just coming across to the French Alps and want to see what events are taking place, then you may find the page useful. There are plenty of options other than the Etape and Marmotte. Have a great festive season. Cheers, Russell http://grenoblecycling.free.fr --------------------------------------------- An event still to be added is the JWCC time trial up Alpe Duez in july 8)

Hi Brian, Its great your doing this, thanks for organising this Kenny If during the season I have an important event coming up, and my training has slipped, how realistic is it that I can bounce back to fitness in time? What should I do without overtraining, how much lead time is realistic (2 / 3 / 4 weeks??) I think this would be helpful to most people who have other commitments (or illness) during the season. SD
