  1. http://www.jimlangle...kefitchart.html Heres a list of common aches and pains on the bike, and typical bikefit solutions. For example, I've been suffering from pain between the shoulderblades recently, and possible solutions include: 1) Raising the handlebars 2) Using a shorter stem 3) Looking up the road without moving head upwards (craning neck), relying on eye movement more. 4) Trying not to lockout arms (i.e. bend the elbows more) May be of help to others. Cheers, Scott
  2. No problem Billy. A wee bit of web browsing revealed ResortHoppa.com offers cheap transfers. I've opted for the limited stop (maximum 4) for £25.99 return. This is the standard webfare and then applying the voucher code "aprilmay" at checkout for an additional discount. There may be a surcharge for the bike it says, and I will find out when I arrive.
  3. Hi Billy. I'm flying on the same flight as you (JET2 0700 on thursday). I'm getting a different flight back, so only need the transfer to hotel in 1 direction.
  4. Hi Billy, Could you PM me the number for the transfer co, and I can phone them to ask how much much it would cost to add me+ bike bag to the booking. Or alternatively could you contact them and ask the same question. I would be getting dropped off about 3km away from the Duva, at Pollensa Park Hotel. Scott
  5. Question for Billy, Charlie and Al who are heading out on the thursday.. Have you booked a bus or taxi to get you + bikes from airport to hotel, or will there be scheduled buses outside ?
  6. 8 or 9 speed STIs (105s would be fine) and 9 speed ultegra cassette 12-27 wanted. PM if available. Thanks, Scott
  7. Hi, Here's a nice review on Pez of Tom Danielson's new book about core exercises for cyclists. Quite topical as lots of people will be greatly increasing their training load as weather improves, and a reminder to listen to your body and do specific exercises to avoid injury. http://www.pezcyclin...66#.UWP3dzf4KSo Scott

  10. I would be interested in this also (especially le Vaujany as I've not tried that before, but maybe Trophée de l'Oisans if others are going to la Marmotte). Done some research, and it looks like the only guaranteed way to get a place for la Marmotte is to register for le Trophée de l'Oisans (139e). Price sounds stiff until you realise la Marmotte is 60e and le Vaujany is 37e. The other 2 events (l'alpe d'Huez TT and la prix des rousses 40km, worth 30e total) you could skip if you were not staying in the immediate area. I reckon you could commit to le Trophée, and if you were worried about climbing legs could opt to do the shorter distance on 1 or both events on the day. For example, le Vaujany and la Marmotte both go over l'alpe d'Huez.. and the only difference between the 173km and 109km Vaujany course is a loop around l'alpe d'Huez. So you wouldn't miss anything as you would go up l'alpe d'Huez the following weekend with la Marmotte. See http://www.sportcommunication.info/web2010/epreuve2.php?langue=2&trophee=81 Regarding accomodation, its always possible to find something in bourg d'oisans, but more realistic would be the cheapy IBIS in Grenoble with a room price of 40e per night (up to 3 persons) combined with vehicle hire to the start.
  11. 2 pairs of socks please, size 45
  12. Hi Richie. Thanks for the offer, I'd like to borrow the bag and will combine that with Jannza's recommendation. Cheers, Scott
  13. Hi, I'll be taking a carbon bike on the Mallorca trip in April. Can anyone advise if they use a cardboard bike box, what kind of packaging materials they use and whether its sufficient for the baggage handlers. I've usually taken a hardshell bikebox (scicon), but that wont be available to me this time. Cheers, Scott
  14. On 27th April there are 2 Sportif events: 312km and 167km. http://www.cyclosport.org/19-Nov-2012/news/mallorca-312-sportive---longest-single-day-sportive-in-europe.html http://www.mallorca312.com/home/ Here is the map for the 167 - its one of the classic routes from Port Pollenca http://www.mallorca312.com/recorridos/img/mapa-167.jpg
  15. Here's a link to some route ideas.. all but 1 starting from Port de Pollenca http://www.globalspokes.com/Mallorca/mallorca-routes.htm
  16. I'm booked up for 7 days from 25th April, at the Pollensa Park hotel (2km from the Duva) which is cheaper for single rooms, and has good feedback on other cycling boards.
  17. Hi Ian, I'll wait for a week or so to see if anyone else wants to go for 7. Cheers, Scott
  18. If someone wants to share for 7 nights, my number is **deleted to avoid spam**. Cheers, Scott
  19. I'm flexible on dates, but would prefer the 7 days. Will be good to catch up with all. Just a friendly word. I'll be hiring from www.procyclehire.com, as I have memories of planes with limited capacity unable to carry all bikes and golf clubs, and some bikes being delayed. I think it just depends on how busy the flights are, and how early you check in.
  20. Hi, Its been a while since I've been out with the Wheelers, but I was planning to go to Mallorca next year and this trip sounds fun. I would be going from Thu 25 to Thu 4 (7 days) if anyone wants to share. I don't snore, and my preference would be sharing with 1 or 2 others if anyone is interested. Cheers, Scott

    Jim Daly

I've not been out with the club for some time, but I wanted to express my sadness on hearing of Jim's passing. As others have said already, he was a real character and a gentleman. Scott
  22. I'm delighted for you Kenny. I think your values have ensured the club's values have remained the same over the years -- friendly, warm and welcoming to all. Best wishes, Scott

    Curry Night

Hi guys. I would have loved to join you all for the annual Enrique Iglesias singing competition.. hope you all had a great time. I'm still alive, but now living in Latvia and studying part-time post grad. No cycling currently.. its snowing! Scott
  24. The Giro of Sardinia is a weeklong event each year, which you can do in its entirety or pick and choose whether to do a long or shorter ride each day. I think its attractive as it offers the full Italian experience in a coastal region well served by low cost airlines. This year's event was 19-26 April 2008. Link to event summary and possible accomodation http://www.peteranne.it/index_Page2656.htm Training route options http://www.peteranne.it/index_Page891.htm A blog report on the cyclesport website from a rider who completed this year's event (login may be required to read fully) http://www.cyclosport.org/members/myblo ... &size=9999
  25. Hi Ian. Did you manage Arran yesterday? Arrived at 935, too late for the 945 ferry with Zane. Headed to Largs to kill time, went around Mullport, then returned to Ardrossan for 1230 ferry. We headed to Lochranza intending to cut across the string road to get back for the last ferry (1920). Passed en-route by a bunch of 6 going anti-clockwise (noticed an EK road jersey amongst them).. maybe you saw them later? Sunshine and love of cakes won over though, and we didn't make it past Lochranza
