Guys next Sunday Kenny S is away on his holibags so I will be guest route setter :rockets

I am away to Skye till Friday night so may not actually manage to post a fancy multimap thingy

never mind heres a clue to the route:- it will involve muddy sh*t covered backroads  with ample climbs added to ensure a nice burn in the leg muscles. Remember no muddies no playing :smash with the bunch.

You have been warned.

definetly a day for muddies on the offishell start of winter riding.

Six riders:- Colin,James ,Jonathon,Davie R,Sean and Kenny MacD set off in light drizzle for a hilly ride in the East Ayrshire backroads. Hardly had we warmed up and it was up the Bowfield climb :-x and over to Caldwell . Lugton next and onto the small Alpe for a go at the hairpins  Colin & James set pace before being fooled by false summit and easing enough for yours truly to nip round and aply some pressure ;-) A regroupment was required at real summit as legs got stretched in our first real dig. Howies of Dunlop was next hors cat. climb and a runner decided to see how far he could hold off the bunch on steepest part  not very far as pace was lifted to save our embarresment  once atop we set a brisk pace along the washing board towards Neilston ( although we heard a few moans about the severall sections of pave :smash on this classic section) , the descent round the fishery was marred by a angler blocking road whist unloading his fishing gear :rockets this meant stopping dead at foot of next climb  and engaging low gears quickly  .Over summit and a well earned rest on long descent to Neilston road. Turning left we climbed upwards into a rising headwind  , by now the bunch was starting to stretch on each climb and a few riders were delighted when we crested the summit after 5 short sharp lifts . The descent was marred by the headwind which meant pedalling down hill to maintain a goood cruising speed. Back past Howies no one took up offer of another lap :rockets of the pave. Dropping into Dunlop we turned back onto minor roads to pick up another couple of wee ;-) lifts .Lugton and back over to climb the wall back over onto Greenacres road, by now legs were burning and everyone was looking forward to the final run in.The pace quickened as we approached Greenacres and a steady tempo was maintained all the way to Bowfield and a well derseved freewheel ( well for everyone bar Sean  and his fixed wheel steed) With the 30 sign approaching Kenny MacD elected to lead out the gallop before Colin launched a ferocious sprint closely followed by Sean on his fixie ( despite revving at 1000 rev/min ) he couldnt find enough to get round Colin as the line was crossed, Davie R who had a torrid day on the climbs found enough in the tank to take a well deserved 3rd. place.

Rider of the day :- everyone worked hard on a tough day in the saddle , but James comfortably claimed the King of the Mountains award.

Excellent 35+ miles with enough hills to ensure a nice burn in the muscles

ps next weeks route will be a flatter run and hopefully with route posted in advance ;-)

us auld guys cant manage 2 hilly runs back to back, well not with my dodgy hip anyway ( thinking of getting a titanium campag one fitted ) what do you think oh technical guru ?

Plus it s annoying getting a doing off your son who has only started sunday bunch cycling

ps Kenny S has warned me not to scare off his 30 milers by making runs too hard , they are beginners after all ;-)
