  1. Duncan and I formed a splinter group with a novel 0820 start to avoid doping control and velo paparazzi. They are looking for us training in southern Spain. (I made most of that up, we just had to be back early.) Bishopton, Erskine, Inchinnan and Georgetown all sped past us. Back to BoW where Duncan left me for dead on the splendid Mur de Lawmarnock (GR 378635) New hill to me, about fifty metres long and twenty high. Then Barnbrook and home. While practising slingshots on the Georgetown Road we spotted Paul McD on a secret training mission. So at least four groups out today. Great weather.
  2. Should have given a mention to Dave Stokes who now lives far away but is still a member and our top audax organiser. Dave came in at 1.45......on a trike....made of steel....weighing about 3 million tons. Hogmantastic!
  3. Duncan Thomson and I are planning on the first super six at Humbie in early March. I'd like to do a couple of the reliability rides as mini-APRs and give the main bunch a head start (about three minutes ) to get a bit of training in. (Just don't let this leak onto the Club Run forum or it'll be the Popular Judean People's Front vs. the Judean People's Popular Front all over again. Thanks for that one, Tony. are my apostrophe's OK?) Paul, is the Masters on closed roads? Any more info? Thanks.
  4. Jim Next challenge could be Erskine Triathlon in mid-May. 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run is pretty non-threatening. It's our local event, highly recommended and you'll know all the roads really well. NYD results/report: http://edinburghtri.org/index.php?optio ... 7&Itemid=1 Kerry Lang was first female and third overall at 1 hour 3 mins. Stunning. I was 21st and 7th male vet at 1 hour 10. Apologies for not having Alan and Shazy's time. Mild and rainy day. surface water made the bike run a bit sketchy on the steep downhills, almost came to a halt at the 180 degree roundabout turn. Ms. Lang reports wheelspin going uphill. Right, that's my exercise over for eight weeks. See you in spring.
  5. Good link Jim, thanks. I can't find the SCU or TLI dates myself. SCU especially don't seem to want newcomers interfering with their secret society, TLI is better. It would be nice to meet up with other club members for some of these and work together if possible during the races. (Like we couldn't do this year.) I'll post my race dates here, can you do the same? Alan
  6. Woo hoo! Race season starts in two days!Oh ya dancer ! JWCC will soon be in action around Arthur's Seat in the famous New Year's Day Triathlon. Full race report to follow. Any one else going? Alan
  7. Alternative Sunday run: I'm leaving Kilmacolm Cross en route for work in sunny Govan at 0800 on Sunday. Company welcome. But if there's a sniff of ice then I'm driving. Have fun tomorrow but watch for diesel. Almost wiped out today. Tons of the slippy stuff eastbound on Old Greenock Road, Erskine, through Inchinnan and also Barnsford Road was awash. What's the law on this? Can I grass up leaky lorries? Regards Alan
  8. Sustrans won. http://www.sustransconnect2.org.uk/
  9. http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/HOME/ suggests sleet and bike misery. Can't bring myself to commit yet. Mental commuting weather this week but some company at least. I've met Dougie da Rosa and Graeme Cockburn from the Ivy on the Inchinnan/Renfrew Road. I just need to meet Mr Blom for a Renfrewshire hat trick. We are all a bit bored of horizontal rain.
  10. Loudest noise in the bunch was my constant whinging to get home ASAP and dry off. Cold too. And my rear tyre was shredded by glass on the cycle track. Puddle-tastic
  11. Hello Duncan and I will take cycle track from the Pullman in Kilmacolm at 0820 and pass Clydesdale Bank BoW at 0835 en route to clubrooms. We'll wait 5 mins in BoW. Ambushers welcome. Alan
  12. My earlier cryptic post had few hits. Duncan insists I post this link to encourage a wider audience. Hope you enjoy it and forget the rain for a few minutes. http://www.johnstone-wheelers.co.uk/mclean_ala.php
  13. Kenny S. Get well soon. Kenny McD. Those of us from the upper reaches of the Gryffe clocked up 90k on Sunday. Thanks for a great wee adventure. Going back up the cycle track Greg and I tried to chase down Jim Daly whom we recognised by his smooooooth cadence. Couldn't catch him by BoW. Greg was still going strong at the end. Another white jersey there. Quick plug for: http://www.johnstone-wheelers.co.uk/mclean_ala.php with thanks to all those in the club who've been great company this season, especially in the reliability rides. Alan
  14. Back in June of this year, a couple of Johnstone Wheelers, Duncan Thomson and I, and some mates headed off to the Italian Dolomites for the "Gran Fundo Campagnolo". If you're bored of our wet, Scottish November then go here for some Italian sun - http://www.johnstone-wheelers.co.uk/mclean_ala.php Thanks to Iain Lang for websetting. Recommended accompanying drink: Pinot Grigio or a grappa from Bassano.
  15. Back in June of this year, a couple of Johnstone Wheelers, Duncan Thomson and I, and some mates headed off to the Italian Dolomites for the "Gran Fundo Campagnolo". If you're bored of our Scottish, wet November then go here for some Italian sun - http://www.johnstone-wheelers.co.uk/mclean_ala.php Many thanks to JWCC's own fatblokeonbike for endless help and encouragement.
  16. Ignore my last. Delighted to see Kenny is leading us at 0900. How many posts can a bike ride generate? The Kilmacolm posse will head through the BoW hood and meet up wiv our homies at 0900, innit. (It's hard on the streets of the big K) Nuff said. A
  17. Kenny Unable to volunteer for 0930 but happy to join you at 0900. Be gentle with me Alan
  18. Jim Thanks for volunteering my services. I don't have time for a big 0930 run. All the the club hard men will be in Wanlockhead. I suggest all us stayathomes meet at 0900 for a 30-40 mile mystery run. It is certainly a mystery to me so far. Duncan will join me from Kilmacolm Cross at 0820, Clydesdale Bank on cycle track in BoW about 0840. Leave clubrooms at 0900 on a wild adventure to a faraway tearoom. Back for 1230. Suggest you post here if you really, really want a seperate 0930 group this Sunday. Alan
  19. Can't go to Wanlockhead so will almost certainly join you at 0900. Alan
  20. I've registered. Local projects include completing the "bridge to nowhere" to get bikes and people across the M8. Please join up. It might cost you a text at most. Alan
  21. Hi club hard men, Where's the report on your epic? Did you get as far as the bridge? We barely got to the supermarket. We could have used it as a cafe stop. a
  22. KOM and white jersey (by ten years) to Colin. Red jersey to Jim for fixed Langster. Green to Bill because I'm feeling generous. That was the slowest mile I have ever cycled. Forty minutes from clubrooms to Morrison's (yes, that Morrison's). The Ivy, Kooriers and co. can rest easy. Alan
  23. Ok Jim, I'll see you there. If I'm not there by 0840 just go. I'll have punctured or restrained by family. Back to the footie online now. One all, ten minutes to go. A
  24. Congratulations to Paul. Second in the TLI Fiberforce league. http://www.scottish-tli.com/6202.html
